loved it all ignore all negative reports
we returned 10th november from club jandia princess. we had read all reports and we were not sure whether or not to change our hotel before we went. first impressions were good, rooms were clean staff were very friendly and so were the germans . on our first night we were invited to managers welcome party where we were introduced to all staff and maded to feel very welcome, they all spoke english and couldnt do enough to help. the six pools were amazing, a bit cold but all were in tropical settings with sunbed areas. no problems getting a sunbed as you couldnt reserve before 8.30am food was excellent plenty to choose from and the waiters were very friendly and helpful even the pool toilets were immaculate which is unusual abroad especially at the end of the day the entertainment was good, if you are going in the near future a must show is the jandia diva with robert & tim the reps they were brilliant all in all an excellent stay we would recommend the hotel to anyone going to fuerteventura
Good holiday, but wont go back
We have just spent a week here. The hotel was clean and the food was very varied. We had a free champagne breakfast provided by the hotel. (Honeymoon). But, the hotel is becoming all-in and there is a dominance of Germans. Thus, the entertainment was mostly all in German and I would be concerned over the kind of holiday maker this hotel will now attract as an all-in. We have been recommended to try other Princess Hotels as other ones are apparently better. I also agree with the previous reviewer - to be wary of Thomsons. The rep was awful, uniterested, cagey with info., didnt mention all-in option and the 'highlights' looked pointless and expensive. We also came home with a stomach bug, which makes us wary of returning there. I would suggest booking elsewhere if you want a quiet, platinum style break.
Be wary of Thomsons
We have just returned from the Jandia Princess for 1 week. We had been there in January and as we liked the fact that it is a get away from it all holiday we went back. This time is was alot busier and towards the end of the break there were loads of children which meant that lying beside the main pool became intolerable (I do have a short fuse when it comes to other peoples children). My other half enjoyed the food but as I am a vegetarian I found the selection dissapointing but then in Spain it tends to be. The food was always fresh and plenty of it. We also did not have a very good room this time with no view and as it was on the ground floor it was riddled with Ants!! Also on night 3 we were advised by another fellow holidays maker that we could upgrade to fully inclusive for around £12 each per day which would cover lunch, snacks and all local drinks which for us was good value as we wanted to do nothing more than laze by the pool side, sunbathe and read. When this fellow holiday maker had challenged the rep she advised that they had only just found out that the Germans were offered this but this was not mentioned at the welcome meeting and I suspect it is because they want you to book their overpriced excursions (sorry highlights!) and will not want you to have a reason to hang around the hotel. I have put in this list of complaints to the hotel and Thomson's as it seems a shame that they are not given the chance to improve.
A wonderful week
My friend and I took this week's holiday as complete break from housework, work and children - we had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff were friendly - good food - clean accommodation - the weather was superb. Pools excellent. Met some lovely people - all of whom were escaping the daily grind too. We did several of the trips, namely helicopter, catermeran 'lazy days' cruise and the sub-cat - all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. All over far too quickly.
Had a lovely time
My husband and I stopped at this hotel for a week and arrived back recently. Yes, the hotel was all inclusive for the German guests and not Thompson holiday makers. What the Thompson reps did not mention is that their clients could upgrade to AI for just 18 Euros per day, which turned out to be excellent value. It included the use of very good tennis courts (normally 8 Euros per hour). It included lunch. It also included alcolholic drinks, (locally produced spirits) very good lager/beer, soft drinks, wonderful cappuchino coffees, espresso coffees, chocolate etc. We found the food to be very good (unlike a previous review writer). Wonderful fish such as fresh anchovies, perch, tuna etc. White asparagus, artichokes, avocado pears, lots of fresh fruit and a wonderful array of salads. The meat dishes were also good. It was not gourmet food, but it was good. There were short queues for food (perhaps they are longer in the English/German summer holidays). This is an all the year around resport and I would recommend going in our winter months. The Germans we found to be charming and not at all greedy and grasping as was reported by another poster. My only real criticism is that some of the tiling in the pool and pool areas needed some attention. The rooms were very pleasant with sea views and pool views and fairly efficient air conditioning. All in all, a treat.
A fabulous fortnight - excellent time!
My mother and I have just returned from a fortnight's bliss at this hotel. I read the brochure carefully before booking so was not surprised by the steps to the beach. We had no problems getting sunbeds and whilst the majority of the guests were All-Inclusive Germans and did tend to hog the Coco-Loco bar in the evening, we didn't care. We went for 2 weeks of relaxation which we had. The hotel was clean and the staff were wonderful. The Thomsons rep was constantly dealing with petty complaints from other English guests such as "I didn't like having to collect my own spoon!". Ridiculous. The pools were clean, the food was very varied and delicious, the rooms were sheer luxury, fabulous sea views and fully air-conditioned. The entertainment in the evening was too hot and crowded but if you like that kind of thing then fair enough, and it was popular. we preferred the piano bar and spent many relaxed evenings there. I can recommend going, perhaps because it was term time we had a better time, I certainly wouldn't want to go away when there are hoards of kids (I have 2 teenagers already!). There is very little to do which was perfect for us and exactly what we wanted. If there was one thing I would say could be improved upon it would be that the "animation" team speak in English as they often assumed all the guests were German. Apart from that my mother and I had a fantastic holiday and would recommend this hotel. Shame Thomsons are taking away it's Platinum Status and the hotel is, apparantly, changing to all-inclusive only. I did hear that the neighbouring Fuerteventura Princess Hotel was as good if not even better! I am definitely planning a return trip and am glad I didn't read any of these reviews before we went.
Relaxed
This was our third visit here and must admit that although the holiday was very relaxing, the standard of the hotel wasn't as good as previoius visits. For the Germans there was the All Inclusive option although at our welcome meeting we were told that we could go All Inclusive if we paid a supplement. The animation team were nowhere near as good as last year and catered more for the Germans. Some daytime acitivities, although advertised in the hotel, were none existent. Having said all that, we do like the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. The food (lots of variety) could have been hotter... but although we enjoyed our visit, I don't think we would go again unless the price was more realistic.
Still be their if i'd known!!!!
We were so exited about booking this holiday that i looked around to find some feedback, finding this web-site was cool untill i read the woooful from London one, then we began to worry thinking allsorts so i kept checking regularly until just before left. At one point after ringing Thompsons several times to disguss the reports i actualy rang the Island office and a helpful woman named Chris said she to had seen this report but no complaints had been made to Thomsons. The 8th came and we flew from Luton a perfect flight, meal and all followed by a dodgey coach ride of just over an hour with no air-con which we complained about and the return journey was perfect (the only complaint of the hols). So the hotel was fantastic our first platinum, the secret maybe to book ahead if poss, we booked a sea or pool veiw and got a stunning sea veiw spotlessly cared for the whole stay, fresh towel inc. beach towels when req. The food was wonderful and varied from local fish to lamb curries, desserts to put dehlia smith to shame not a sloppy meat dish as our previous corrispondant would have you beleive. On to the pool and yes their were the tipical Germans with towels out but still many loungers to choose from but why do it when a brisk walk down to the beach puts you outside Emilio`s bar on a lounger looking at the waves crashing in and i mean crashing (get a boogie board from the shop, age is no barrier trust me wicked fun) I could go on n on but take my advice go do it or next door at the fuetaventura princess. Our only regret is not booking 10 days or fortnight. As for the cats we saw 2-3 the whole stay and they were lovely and no cockroaches or bugs. Adious amegoes.
Well... we enjoyed it.
We booked a Thomson Platinum late deal, so the room was allocated on arrival. After reading the previous reviews, we were hoping that we could avoid the Jandia Princess, but yes you guessed it, thats were we ended up. Anyway we decided to give the hotel a go, and I'm glad we did. Food was excellent, and there was plenty of it, no sign of the longs queues experienced by other people, ok there were alot of people milling around most of the time, but what do you expect, this is self service after all not silver service! We were expecting problems with sunbeds, but again no problems, there were plenty available even around midday. Yes, the pool does have a few problems, mold around the drainage areas, a few broken tiles, water temperature to match the Artic but nothing that would cause me to throw my teddy out of the pram. Yes there were alot of germans at the hotel, but again we had no problems getting drinks at the pool bar, or anywhere else in the hotel for that matter. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, and checking our bags out on the day of departure at the hotel, intead of queuing at the airport was a treat. We were only there a week, between the 31/08/04 and 07/09/04, (maybe that had something to do with it, missing the main school holiday rush) but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall 7/10
Shame about the All Inclusive Guests!
Travelled with Thomson Platinum on 20th July 04. Hotel recently changed to All Inclusive for the German guests - Brits could pay to upgrade. The problem was that you couldn't get near any of the pool bars as it was full of Germans drinking their free beer and cocktails. There seemed to be hundreds of kids running around near the downstairs entertainments area, so we sought peace & quiet upstairs in the piano bar (not available to All Inclusive guests!) Great piano playing (she whistles as well!) and 'Belly' the waitress was great. The restaurant was a bit of a scrum, with often long queues. Food became rather repetitive after 2 weeks. When it was windy. boy was it windy - but that was after you had the early morning rush to beat the Germans to the sunbeds (even though there are signs saying no reserving beds until after 08.30 - no chance!) When we did manage to find beds, we came down and found our towels dumped on the floor and the beds gone ! The large pool is very busy, very cramped and very noisy - better to go to one of the smaller pools. Not a cheap holiday, we were disappointed. The sister hotel next door seemed better (and its cheaper!) The Platinum cruise (UK only guests) was a great day out and the dolphins swimming with us made the trip complete. Feel sorry for the Thomson reps - they had a steady queue of complaining guests.
