Just had a terrific week in Bali.Crete. Stayed at Gregory's apartments a minutes walk from the small attractive harbour.
The accomodation is homely, village style rooms.
You wouldn't want to cook a sunday roast in the room or spend much time in the shower ( poor pressure) but the room is adequate, very clean and Maria and Gregory are lovely people who live on site and could not be more helpful.
The hanging vines and jasminium cover the hotel and provide fantastic fragrances at dusk.
The local tavernas were of good quality and suprisingly reasonably priced, compared with some Greek islands we've visited over the past 20 years.
Refreshingly good.
Only about an hour from Herak airport , Bali sits amongst 4 small bays. Each with it's small, dark sandy beach.
The sea and beach was clean , and safe......good for small children.
An overall good family location and maybe not so good for disco hunters as it is a pretty quiet place overall, where you can relax, enjoy good greek food and sleep well at night with very few cars and no noisy bikes at all.
Watch out for the usual lack of health and safety when walking, including no fences on some cliff tops, but overall, great people, great venue. Wouldn't hesitate to reccommend the accom. and location

The apartments are big enough for a small family of four and are clean and well maintained and although advertised as self-catering, facilities to do this are extremely sparse, there is a two-ring cooker, a fridge, a kettle and cutlery. However, the owners who live on site are a lovely couple and try to be as helpful as they can. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gregory and ate out everyday, which was enjoyable as the food is lovely and I tried various dishes at various restaurants and enjoyed every meal. Bali itself is a beautifully picturesque fishing village that offers beautiful views over the sea and the hills and mountains behind it. If you have mobility problems it isn't the place to go as there are a fair few very steep hils to manouvre. I loved the place and thought it friendly and perfect for a peaceful, mainly beach holiday and would go again.

Hi my name is Karen, my partner and I were in Crete Sept 2006 for a 2 week break. We found the Gregory apartments to be really lovely. The rooms were clean and had traditional wooden shutters that opened to the gorgeous smell of jasmine which trailed up the steps and round the windows of our apartment.
We were a stones throw from all amenities, shops, beaches and although the owners didn't speak much English they were really helpful. All round a great place to stay.
Cheers Kaz
