Whilst Konnos Bay itself is beautiful, the same cannot said for the hotel/apartment complex there. It was described online as clean and simple but it should be described as extremely basic and dirty! We stayed for two weeks , the sheets were changed twice a week but weren't properly clean and were old with holes in them. the room looked as though it hadn't had a thorough clean for a long time, the sliding doors were manky! The woodwork was sticky and the cleaner clearly didn't know how to use a brush in a corner! We had to stay in for a couple of days due to my partner being bitten on his feet and I felt so itchy from the state of the room that I set about cleaning it myself, it was cleaner then but i still could not get the stickiness off the woodwork, it needed a good scrub with sugar soap. The 'kitchen' items are extremely sparse: two pans,a frying pan, a kettle and an old sandwich maker. The kettle plug got very warm every time it was used. The fridge although clean on the inside, after I had wiped it out, was covered in rust spots which had come through the paint on the door and the top had been used as a cutting surface and was very badly marked and couldn't be cleaned. I used a plate as a cutting surface. The air-con is 6 Euros from midday to midday so if you forget to pay in advance you won't get your moneys worth.
The supermaket was well stocked although a little pricey for soft drinks, but had fesh bread and rolls every day as well as fruit and salad so it wasn't too hard to knock a cheap meal together. The hotel restaurant was pricey for drinks and food compared to Proteras and the nearby pizza restaurant was dear too. There are a couple of more traditional restaurants a few minutes walk away which are well worth a visit.
We hired a car through the tour operator which was 168 euros for 4 days, including a full tank of fuel, we should really have booked it here before we went, would have been much cheaper but a car is essential if you want to see more than the town centres of Proteras and Ayia Napa, you can pull off the road onto the most spectacular beaches and if you're lucky find an empty one. I wouldn't recommend trying to walk to Proteras from Konnos bay, it's too far in that heat!
Weekends are usually the time that the locals go to the each and they were crowded but during the week the smaller beaches are gorgeous.
All in all Cyprus is fab and we will be going again but definitely not to Konnos Bay Apartments I'm sorry to say.

My husband and I stayed at the resort in June 09. First impressions were great, although we were actually put up in the apartment blocks across the road from the main hotel. It was a very nice but basic room, we could'nt have asked for more for the money we paid. Some of the staff were a little abupt but some were very friendly too, and when we had a problem with the fridge- it was fixed immediately. The only criticism we had was that the air conditioning was 6 euros per night (a fee was expected) but you cannot control the temperature yourself, it is done from reception, so the room got a little too cold in the night but far too hot to turn it off altogether. We gave a deposit of 10 euros for the tv remote that had english channels and that was refundable at the end of the holiday. The rooms were cleaned 5 days a week to an acceptable standard. In fact in was the best hotel i've stayed in bar the expensive one we booked 3 years ago when we actually got married in paphos. I have read lots of people complaining about the location, yes the beach was 200 steps away - but well worth it. I would advise anyone to hire a car if you are wanting to venture far out but if you want to stay local then the bus stop is ight across the road and it only cost 1.50 euros for a ten min journey into protaras. If you do hire a car, do it before you travel as it is a lot cheaper.
We will 100% be going back to Konnos Bay Apartments.

Clean but rude

The Apartments are clean (although there is still the odd cockroach or nest of ants around). Very Basic - they charge you to use the air conditioning or to rent a fan. The bar staff are very rude and not at all friendly as are most of the staff at the front desk. The bar staff took forever to serve anyone and barely acknowledged peoples presence or even smile.
There were several groups of us staying in different rooms, all but one of us asked for air conditioning. When we asked for air conditioning they made us pay immediately and gave us a receipt. The group that didn't ask for air conditioning were told on the day we were leaving that they had a bill for the air conditioning that they had to pay and if they didn't we were threatened with the police and told we wouldn't be able to leave the island. The group did have air conditioning, but never asked for it and assumed it was part of the room. One of our group broke a mirror and were obviously happy to replace it, however the management replaced it with a cabinet with lights and tried to charge us about 60 euros (the mirror that was broken was a basic mirror with a plastic frame.
The manager / owner of the hotel is very nice and friendly and sorted a deal to pay for half.
I'd never go there again and can't recommend it to anyone.

Had a week half board here in june/july and would thoroughly recommend it to couples or people wishing to chill for a week or two.The accomodation is basic but very clean .We had a 1 bedroom apartment in the main hotel which seemed to be better equipped than the studios in the annexe apartments. Also, the hotel offers super views of the bay whereas the annex is across the road.We had half board and found the food to be very good with a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts every evening. The mains were usually a choice of a local dish or a more english one.Breakfast was continental, but for the sum of 80 cents, you could convert to a full english(and very nice it was too!) Couldn`t fault the meals at all.The hotel bar was not that badly priced(e.g a pint and a half of local beer was 4.90 and we found that to be fairly average and significantly cheaper than some of the waterfront bars in proteras. The supermarket across the road is a little pricey but it is convenient as the hotel is a bit away from the main strips of entertainment(don`t forget your hair conditioner as its 4.5 euros !!).We didn`t higher a car ,but went everywhere by bus which was so cheap compared to taxis and car hire. You can go all the way from proteras to ayia napa for 1.50euros!!Brilliant views ,very friendly staff(especially sam and a smashing young romanian lady).Always a breeze due to the position of the hotel which makes eating outside a joy after a day at 40degrees.(proteras gets very hot compared to konnos bay).Saw 2 cockroaches the whole time but bear in mind they are like our flies and they are not a reflection of poor hygiene.Would not recommend this for families with teenagers as it would be too quiet for them.
In the words of schwarzenegger "we will be back"!!

We stayed at the Konnos Bay Hotel for a week with half board. The Hotel was clean with friendly and polite staff. It's not a 5* hotel and i think some people have very high expectations! With having half board you were intitled to breakfast which was a choice between continental or english. If you did decide to go for the english you did have to pay 85 cents each extra, although this didn't bother us. Then you had a choice of either having lunch or tea as part of the half board. We chose to have tea and were given a 3 course meal each evening with a choice between 2 dishes for each course. The food was very good and filling, there pizza is homemade and was amazing. They also put a choice of english and greek food on the menu so you'll be likely to find something that your happy with! If you do decide to eat out near the hotel there is a couple of bars, and an italian resturant 5mins away!
The beach is only a 5min walk away... yes it is down alot of steps and it is a little struggle on the way up, but the beach and view are beautiful and i would say that it was worth it!
There is a supermarket across the road which is owned by the hotel it is expensive, but if you fancy a walk 10mins down the road there is another supermarket which is slightly cheaper!
From Konnos Bay you can walk to Potaras, but it does get hot and could take up to 30mins to walk it, we got taxi's there and back which was only 8 Euro's each way. And was 13 Euros to Aye Napa. Also staff at reception are more than happy to ring for a taxi for you!
Some people on the reviews here have said that staff can be rude, but we had no problems and found them all very polite and helpful, and they would take time to chat and make sure all the guests were ok, especially a lady named Sam. Also people have made comments that the Rep was never avalible we never had a problem, Gemma even sat with us for a chat on a couple of evenings and was very helpful in organising trips for us to do during the week.
I'm not going to lie there were cockroaches.... but it's a hot country! If you went to Oz you get them!!! We had a couple in our room and just got some spray, what ever you do don't squat them! The pool area was always kept clean and tidy. There was never a problem about getting a space by the pool either!
There is a tv in the bar area, the only thing i will say is that by the end of it you will love greek pop music!!! The owner likes to have to tv on all the time and it's always on the greek music channel! With the exception that on our last night England was playing football and we had that on instead!!!
All in all we had a perfect holiday, the people we got chatting to were regulars to the hotel and had been coming the previous few years! They never had any problems and would go again anytime!

We have just returned from koonos bay hotel, this is a very basic hotel, rooms are basic and the location is not the best, more for couples looking to relax not for families/18-30s looking to sightsee or have a a stroll to shops/bars/pubs/clubs/etc, becuase the location is kind of in the middle of no-where... But, the views are amazing; overlooking the konnos bay beach which was beautiful, although there is a 201 steepish steps down to the beach. Also the food at the pool bar/restaurant was quite expensive for the quality and portions of it, we went to the 5**** hotel next door restuarant where there was more of selction and prices were reasonble. Overall, nice hotel but location and steps to beach were the downside(although beach is nice), resort rep was very helpful and outgoing;5 star customer service for her), unlike the waiting staff who would never smile.
The resort was very derilict from everything, was in the middle of ayia napa and protaras and needed a taxi to get there because they are about 15mins drive, taxi costs 15euros to ayia napa and8/9 euros protaras, so car hire would be a good idea... Only good thing about resort was konnos beach.

On arrival at our apartment we were greeted to a drawer full of ants!!! Being on the ground floor i took it in my stride and got some fly spray from reception. Bathrooms ceilings were going mouldy with the condensation, but apart from needing a lick of fresh paint to liven the apartment up, the room was ok. Reception staff were helpful and friendly, during the night. but the day staff couldnt't care less! We booked half board but when we got there we had to pay extra if we wanted a full english breakfast (80c) There was only full english or continental and no cereals for the younger members of our party! you can't feed kids fried eggs and bacon for 2 weeks! The evening meal consisted of only 2 choices each night and if you didn't like them then you could chose an alternative from their restaurant menu at an extra cost (our allowance for half board was 5 euros each night). There was entertainment twice whilst there and one evening of karaoke, one being a BBQ which was the best night of all. Pool was averagely cleaned each night. Plenty of shade and sun beds were plentiful. A very steep walk straight down to the beach (even harder coming up so not good for oap's) There is a road leading down to the beach as well. The beach was lovely, with plenty of water sports a bar and boat trips from here. Next door is the Grecian Park Hotel which we used a few times for drinks and the pool but be warned!!! it's very expensive in there!!There is one convenience store with all you need.. A bar and restaurant is 5 min walk from hotel with good food and latest sports on tv. A bus stops outside hotel taking you to Protaras costing 1.50 euro each way. expect to pay 8-10 euros for a taxi during the day and 12 at night but barter with them as they'l often take what you offer, I offered 5 euros and that was accepted. The weather was 35degrees some days so don't go out without a hat, sun cream and a drink.

Our choice for our 30th wedding...

Sep 2008, Mr P Garratt

Our choice for our 30th wedding anniversary.
We had the most wonderful holiday and can not fault in any way, (considering hotel rating) the cleanliness, food, and staff.
We have already booked for 2009 and will recomend the hotel to anyone.
The location is perfect for anyone who is looking for a quiet, peacful, and yes even in middle age a romantic setting for a holiday.
The area gives an impression of peace and tranquility away from the hot spot of ayai napa, and this is a credit to the friendliness of the local people who are always friendly courteous, and a pleasure to meet

We had been to Cyprus before (5 years ago) on a B&B basis and decided to go SC this time as eating out was so cheap - BIG mistake - it cost a fortune to eat anywhere - there were 5 of us! Konnos Bay was as we expected - the accomodation was basic and clean. Maid 5 times a week - sheets and towels changed twice a week. Having taken 3 kids along - was dissapointed there are no local laundry services - hand washing in the sink was a pain, even got clothes stolen from the make-shift washing line outside so moved the line to our balcony. View was fine - there were road works but no-one working for the two weeks we were there. A bit dusty due to the roadworks abandoned but a lorry came over every so often to spray the unprepared road with water, to my surprise since they have a severe water shortage. We arrived in the early hours after out plane was delayed to find out 3 yr old had no bed - and it was too late for anyone to do anything about it. He had to sleep on a make-shift bed with two chairs put together. Anyway they sorted it the next day. Food/provisions from the supermarket next door - and we didn't get that much - cost more than a basic weeks shopping at home! Later found larger supermarket in Paralimini which was more reasonable. Car hire recommended - although not cheap. The bar/restaurant are was really nice - and the view was FAB - could have just sat there all-day looking at it. The treck to the beach is not one to take lightly, as the Bay is man-made out of the rocks - so very steep - but nicely graduated. Beach is not bad, small but perfect and seems safe enough. Next time i think i will pay for each item as we go at the bar/restaurant - beacuse although they let you run up a TAB for the day - once you ask for the bill - there is no-way to decifer if its right or not - always seemed alot. Most of the bar staff / waiter staff seemed friendly enough. There was one inparticular who we'll call 'K' who was very helpful when out 3yr old had to go into hospital and he let my husband borrow his car.
Yes there are 'ants' - it is a hot country and it's the norm. We did not have any problem with them in our apartment - occasionally we would see a few by the sink and one night my hubby left his glass on the side after drinking malibu, so in the morning it was black with them - but that was to be expected. There are plenty of ants around the complex, little ones and HUGE ones - but they were not a bother. There were plenty of lizards - which i suppose helped to keep the ant population at bay. At night sitting at the bar over-looking the sea - we had a wonderful show of bats catching the moths.
We were dissapointed that people were not discouraged in taking glass to their sun-beds around the pool, equally dissapointed that plastic tumblers were not on offer. We bought some plastic cups (the disposable ones) from the super market - and used them if we wanted a drink by the pool - and used them for our 3 yr old. Other wise drink from plastic bottles - water.
The BBQ on Fiday nights @10Euro per person - children under 5 free - was good value - all the food you can eat - and desserts. Shame local wine and beer wasn't included too, as that was not the cheapest.
The locals seemed to get served first and also seemed to get dishes that we didn't see on the menu.
Travel around - reccomended - loads of places to choose from - most places food was excellent - definately try the local dishes - VERY NICE. Before travelling to towns - ask the locals about 'siesta' - we drove to Larnaka town - which is lovely - just as the shops were closing. Some places the shops closed at different times. (In Larnaka - the shops were closing about 8pm - where in protarus and aiya napa they were open all-night.) Shops in Nicosia were closed from 1-4pm - which is the norm - but do check first.
Overall - we did have a good holiday - Konnos Bay - I would reccomend and would re-visit - i would not pay any more than we did to stay there - but at least we would be more prepared for next time.

Ok, I read the wonderful reviews very...

Aug 2008, Mr T Mocott

1 reader found this review helpful

Ok, I read the wonderful reviews very carefully before deciding to book here with my family. I can only assume that I misread them, as I have just returned from a disappointing stay here. I will quickly add that the Olympic rep. (we will call her G), was as much use as a chocolate teapot. She promised to see what she could arrange regarding my request to move to a different room due to the roadworks and view that I had (see later). Although she was apparently staying at the Konnos, I was not able to get any response from her even though I left notes at reception. In addition, rather unusually in my experience, the pick up times for the home journey were not posted on a board or available until the day before we left and only if we made the effort to find G in order to ask. Never mind that you are on holiday, it was expected that you take the time to be available when G was willing to be there. Any other issues that guests had(glass in the kiddies pool, a/c not working) were not her responsibility so she took no responsibility for them and pointed the guest to the hotel management. I am not sure why she was there at all really.
My view is supported by a family that had stayed there last year and thought it was so good, they came again this year. After a few days their opinion had changed to vowing never to return again. As the days went on, it was apparent that the majority of guests would not be returning again either.
We arrived at the apartments at about 9 in the evening (having been delayed on our flight). Air conditioning has to be asked for and paid for locally. As it was 'late', we were told it was not possible to have it on. The rooms were still a sweltering 34 degrees by about 11pm, but that didnt seem to matter.
Even our first meal was a joke. After asking for the bill a number of times as we wanted to get on to bed, it arrived with completely the wrong price on it. It was about 3x what it should have been. I know that the Euro can be confusing, but they must have thought I was stupid. Eventually after being offered to other tables for payment it came back to me again with various items crossed out. The resulting bill seemed about right, so I paid and went. It would have perhaps been excusable if the restaurant was busy, but it only had about 3 tables eating.
We were self catering, but we met up with a family that were half board. Imagine their surprise when the next day they found out that breakfast was continental only (unless you paid extra for a proper one)and that the dinner only allowed a certain value, which if exeeded meant yet another extra bill. A note on SC, the facilities are pretty basic, so if you actually do intend to cater for yourself, you might not bother.
There was fighting and disturbance on several nights by a group of lads a few doors away from us in cell block H. Oops, I mean the Konnos Bay annex apartments. Around the same time, a room was broken into, which was later excused by staff as the guests having left the door open by mistake. We spoke to the guests concerned, who told us that they would have had to have left all the doors and the balcony doors open 'by mistake'. They knew they hadn't.
The peace and calm of the Konnos Bay that I have read about was becoming a complete nonsense.
The roadworks just outside the appartments are supposed to be finished by August I was told by Olympic. I dont think so, as they still seem to be doing the groundwork. I will say that the noise is not as bad as it could have been, but when you are looking forward to a peacful break you dont want to woken at 7 or 8 in the morning by jackhammers. The view is not exactly enhanced either. Our 'sea view', was actually more a sea glimpse, with a foreground of diggers, dirt and general roadwork stuff.
If you have kids, dont expect them to have fun in the pool if it involves anything other than a lilo or swimming. The 'NO ball games' rule is strictly enforced by the elderly owner. No reason given, just his rules. This might possibly be to do with the fact that the pool is rather tiny, but then again as hardly anybody used it, I doubt it would have mattered.
Generally the staff are as helpful as they can be given the hours that they work and the seemingly overbearing nature of the owner. By the end of our holiday, several staff had left. This meant that the rather slow food service was even slower. Dont get me wrong, i love to spin out a meal as much as the next man, but it would be nice to start eating it sooner and then spin it out.
There are some concerns about general safety. Neither of the two apartments that my family stayed in had batteries in the smoke alarms. This was resolved quickly. It seemed that most rooms had no batteries, which is a worry. As a guest you should not have to check these things yourself. The handrails on the balconies and the main upper walkways were very loose. This is an old holidaymakers bugbear of course, but there is still no excuse for it. The walkway lights are on a timer and as the area is pitch black at night, if you arrive late you might want to get the cases up the stairs as fast as you can.
I am trying to think of some redeeming points, without relying on the areas natural beauty, the lovely sun, the sea. Overall it is best to treat these rooms as a base. Nice though it is, the actual bay is a punishing trek down and then up a cliff in the Cyprus heat, so get a car and get out and about.
This place is a small, family run complex that gains nothing by its connection with Olympic. The location is not enough to merit a good review. If you end up here on price, then that is a choice you have to make. After 10 years staying in Cyprus on a budget, i can tell you that there are better places. Much better.

hi
this time last year we were sitting by the pool at konnos bay and i am now in work impatiently waiting to return again in 2 weeks.last year me n my boyfriend stayed for a week we were completly star struck by the views and could not believe that this place is ony 2.5* what!!!!
we hired a beach buggy which wa so much fun,the location is perfect u are 10mins drive from all the hustle and bustle and right in between ayia napa and protaras.
we ate out every night and found it much the same prices as home tho the cocktails were usually on offer maybe 2/3 cypriot pounds tho i know they have changed to the euro this year.
overall the place is clean, friendly and so SO relaxing the beach is beautiful (lots of water sports available to) and not that many people on it which again is great.
we are heading back as i said and bringing our 6 year old son with us for 2 weeks CANT WAIT!!!
