Melville Hall Hotel sells itself on being a relaxing, comfortable 30-bedroomed hotel that is a five minute walk from Sandown beach. The hotel includes the Utopia Spa and a leisure suite that includes a plunge pool (in other words, a tiny indoors pool), jacuzzi, sauna and detox box. There is also an outdoor heated swimming pool that is open during the summer months. The staff are young, friendly and courteous.
So far, so good. Having relaxed in the plunge pool and wallowed luxoriously in the jacuzzi and feeling very laid-back and happy with life in general, things took a rapid, downward turn during the night when noisy guests kept me and my partner awake until a quarter to two in the morning. Two young couples were enjoying their Saturday night by chatting loudly, watching the TV at the same time and later on, even having noisy sex. I went down to reception where a young lady in her 20s promised to phone the culprits and ask them to keep the noise down. This had no effect whatsoever. A second phone call to reception had the same result... nothing. We asked if we could move rooms. "No, that will not be possible as we are fully booked," was the reply. A third phone call elicited the same result .... no decrease in the noise levels. If we had not been reliant on the ferry to return home, we would have got into our car and driven straight back. My question is this: Do hotels operate a 'noisy guest' policy? What does this policy comprise? The one at Melville Hall obviously doesn't work. It is a shame. The hotel is lovely but we will never be returning and we shall certainly not be recommending it to friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
Until a hotel can give me a cast iron assurance that I will not have to suffer from other people's thoughtless and inconsiderate behaviour, I shall not be stepping foot in a hotel like Melville Hall.
From now on, it will be B&Bs for us.

I booked a short break over the internet and the Photos must have been taken a long time ago as the whole place is shabby, split woodwork on the door frames in the rooms, un-painted doors in the bedroom, cupboard doors that will not close, damp and mold in the bathrooms, mold in the plunge pool area, peeling wallpaper all over the place, dirty plates served up at breakfast, large cobwebs in the lounge area and for the prices they charge I believe it is not good enough. I do not mind paying a lot for accommodation if it it up to a good standered but this was not I have stayed in better and cleaner B&Bs for £30 a night!
