Barcelo Jandia Playa Hotel Reviews
" Lovely "
Submitted By: fionapearceThere are plenty of sun loungers so we were never fighting for them or leaving our towels on the sun loungers (unlike some people)!!!
The beach was about 5/10 minutes walk away which is not bad and its a nice walk. I found the beach to be very quiet and the sea water warm and gorgeous! The waves were huge too but great fun! Please be aware that the beach is known for lots of naked bodies but, in all honesty, something that did not bother me!
I really could not say a bad word about this place and i am very much hoping to go back there this year! It certainly has the thumbs-up from me!!!

Submitted By: Mrs J HAfter landing in the evening, we took the courtsey coach to the car rental site, picked up our car, and drove off into the sunset, literally.
We drove for about 70-80 mins before arriving at our destination, which was farily good timing considering we were driving in the dark with no street lights!!
On our arrival,(which was 10:30pm) we were handed complimentry drinks at check-in, a bell-boy took our cases to our room, which was all the way at the back of the hotel...a good 10 minute walk from the main building!
However, when we awoke the following morning, that 10 minute walk to our room was worth every minute...the beach view was amazing.
In our room, was a plate of fresh fruit and a bottle of Champagne (the bubbly was for our anniversay, this is not complimentry for each guest!).
The main room was a good size, with a double bed (two singles pushed together), a very comfy sofa, a large mirror, mini-fridge, air-con, fan telephone and TV.
The bathroom was large and fully equipped with bidet and powershower over a deep bath, hair-dryer and a huge make-up mirror.
Cleaners would come at least every other day, and more often with your request.
Okay, that's the basics.....
We very much enjoyed staying here, the staff were wonderful, helpful and friendly.
AI hours were from breakfast until 11pm, after that you were asked to pay, I didn't mind this, I understand that they still have to make money after all!
The food was mainly fish, pork and goat...but I expected this being the Canaries....they haven't got farms like we have.
All in all though, the food was very varied, I managed to have different food at every meal time.
Although the hotel does have 400+ rooms, mealtimes went quite smoothly, we coulld get in, eat, drink and leave within 30mins, although we liked to take our time in the evenings.
The pools were large and well laid out, however, only one was heated. Considering the hotel is on a huge complex it never seemed to be busy by the pools....I also have to say that the majority of guests were English and Spanish.
Evening entertainment was good and reasonably varied. I had seen one of the acts previoulsy at a different Barcelo resort in Lanzarote, but I didn't mind as I quite enjoyed it still.
Entertainment began with Mini-Disco for the kids at 8pm, then you would have something like Bingo, follwed by the main show.
The beach was a 10 minute walk. You leave via a keycard-only entry gate at the rear of the hotel, pass some shops, including a Spar, a late night Kareoke bar and niknak shops then onward to the underpass which goes alongside the massive sandy beach. Bewarned, the beach is very popular with nudists, but as the beach is so big, clothed, partially clothed and unclothed are all able to share it without any problems.
The town was a 20 min walk, abundant with shops, cafes, restaurents, arcades...all the usual. What did strike me was shop owners NOT trying to force you into their domain....we managed to walk the whole stretch of shops without anyone trying to force us to buy something, or con us into a timeshare!
There is a homely British Pub in the town, which we visited to watch the England V USA friendly....we were the last to leave!! :)
This is a lovely resort on a lovely island with what I would say is the beach in the world...12km of sand..just sand,...no pebbles...blissfull. A very nice place to go if you just want to explore or unwind.
I think Barcelo Jandia Playa definatley deserve it's star rating :)
The only negative thing I have to say about it is that the TV's in the rooms only have 2 English channels...but who really cares about that....I didn't spend all that money to watch telly!!
I would definately reccommend this hotel.******

Submitted By: Miss S NashThe staff were all so helpfull, they may not of spoken fluent English but they tryed there hardest and met all our requirements and needs. The bar staff were overally friendly and new what we wanted off the tops of their heads each time we went for a drink. The entertainment team were all younge and jolly, they made us laugh and were always trying to make our holiday enjoyable.
The rooms were lovley and spacious with big beds. The cleaners came everyday and changed towls and beds every 3 days. However, if you wanted this done more often all you had to do was ask reception.
The food was not cold, it was hot maybe these below guests just took a long time getting back to there seats - all three meals are buffet style so once your food is on your plate obvioulsy you need to sit down quick and eat it. There was a massive selection to choose from and they even had a bbq running twice throughout the week.
Overall me and my boyfriend thought the hotel was excellent. The weather was beautiful and we both came back with an excellent tan. We would defaniatly return.
If anyone is thinking of visiting this hotel and after reading the below comments has worried you, ignore them all, there rubbish. Its defiantly 10 out of 10 for a 4 star hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs V KingThe food was cold and the drinks were of poor quality also no tea and coffee in the room, nothing in the mini bar fridge, the TV was all in German and no rep at this hotel to complain to.
The staff all seemed nice and the cleaners worked hard, in the past I have always trusted Thomson and Portland’s star ratings but never again.

Submitted By: Mr A PikeThe holiday was ruined for us by awful food, we where both ill and as far as we could see and hear half the hotel was as well, food was either cold or uncooked, we had to wipe knives and forks before using them as they still had pieces of food on them, glasses where filthy, god only knows what the parts of the kitchen you can’t see are like, I dread to think.
We found the only way to not be sitting on the toilet all day was to both eat out and to not even drink anything from the bar, all inclusive really is pointless when you are forced into these actions.
The actual hotel rooms are pretty sparse, and as we had a ground floor room there was very little privacy, coupled with walls so thin you could hear everything and I imagine those next door could hear everything from our room.
We simply went outside the complex for as much of the day as we could, it was a relief to get away from the smell of sewage which came up through the sink, and many others did the same. There is a sauna on site but a word of warning, the showers by the sauna and in the changing rooms have a problem with drainage, resulting in a foul smell and when I walked into one of the showers the sight of hundreds of flies on the shower was quite disgusting.
The Jandia area is really very nice, it’s a throwback to the Canaries before Brit Bars took over so many resorts, lots of shops, cafes, and bars. The vast majority of visitors are German but we had no problems at all with them.
There is one English bar and it plays the football so loud that everyone in the street can hear it, pity they can’t actually get anyone in their drinking, mind you perhaps they should start charging realistic prices for drinks as opposed to British prices as let’s face it this is a tax free island.
The beach is stunning, it has to be seen to be believed, mile upon mile of white sand, we were really lucky with the weather, mainly sunshine with a couple of days slight cloud.
All in all the holiday has not put us off Jandia, far from it we have already booked for next year but not at this hotel. We understood why Portland operate no rep service at this hotel as most people were unhappy, put simply the Hotel is not 4 star, quality is terrible and the attitude of the management is tough you are stuck here, to those who think that perhaps we were just unlucky all I would say is we have stayed at 3 Barcelo Hotels and in every one food has been awful, with people complaining of being ill.
Well you live and learn and all I can say is we learnt never to trust Portland where quality is concerned, they should be ashamed of themselves sending people to this filthy place.

Submitted By: Mr Charles MilliganDownside is the walking distance to the glorious beach but as we had a hired car it did not become a problem. Our room was spotless and was serviced daily.
Towels were always spread out on deck chairs early each morning but manager always went around removing them if unoccupied.
Quite amusing to watch this performance the first week when hotel was full.

Submitted By: Miss L HopwoodThe daytime entertainment was plentiful for those who want to join in, all just a bit of fun.
Plenty of choice with the food without having to queue for more than one minute, some fresh cooked items available daily, as opposed to just all food buffet style.
Rooms had all mod cons including the best shower ever! The place was bigger than we thought with 4 different pools to choose from.
DOWN SIDE: Pools were a little cold to start with, showers by the pools were all COLD.
Some floor tiles around pools needed attention a little dangerous for youngsters.
Evening entertainment a bit hit and miss, some shows somewhat amateurish and some shows not to be missed.
Not many English mainly Spanish, Swedish, & loads of Germans!
A very enjoyable holiday overall, would go back.

Submitted By: Miss S JordanThe complex was fantastic. Bit of a walk to the beach (A killer getting back to the hotel as it's up hill) but you can get the free bus if you need too.
Food was excellent, plenty to choose from and always varied. Anyone who has a need to complain must be a very fussy eater. Entertainment was OK.
Overall we had a brilliant time and it was a good experience for my Mum and Dad as they want to go back! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

Submitted By: Mrs C HOLLANDUpon arrival at the lounge for our evening meal, it was more like a cattle market or motorway service station cafe. Again, we encountered unhelpful staff who watch you struggle to find clean cutlery and locate highchairs for your children to use.
The food that was available looked edible, although very basic, however when we selected our small choice, we found the chicken to taste off and obviously inedible.
I knew that we weren't going mad when we spoke to a group of English tourists who had actually been there for 6 nights and in that time had had such a poor experience that they had all written letters to their tour operator (SAGA) to get the hotel off the brochure and formed what could only be an alliance to get through the week.
We were prepared to fly home; however Thomas Cook were able to relocate us to the Faro Jandia. Another 4* hotel - but an absolute world apart.

Submitted By: Mr S PaylingThe food is great; the staff are great it’s just great! The rooms are immaculately clean.
Although the dates we were at the hotel it was the Spanish holidays so there was a lot of Spanish, but we spoke to a couple that had been there 5 times and never known the hotel have this many Spanish people in!!
I wouldn't suggest going to this hotel if you have walking difficulties It would be ok to go if you didn’t want to go out of the hotel, but you have to walk 72 steps down to get onto the main road, then you have to walk under a underground tunnel and walk abit further to get onto the beach, and you also have to do the same back up!
All in all the hotel is great. There’s a great waiter in the downstairs bar called Abdul! Oh and his colleague Anna! Best people in the hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs T LoughheadWe booked with First Choice, though flew with Thomas Cook for some reason. The flight arrived in Fuerteventura and the weather was absolutely superb. We were then conveyed to our hotel by coach, which was packed with fellow holidaymakers on leaving the airport, however, after about four of five stops there were only us and two other couples left to travel to Jandia.
Even the Travel Rep had ditched us and got of at one of the earlier stops, advising that we would meet our own travel rep the following morning.
By this point we were all left wondering as to what resort we were going to. My husband and I were the last two to be dropped off, but the view of the front of the hotel was lovely. The transfer was approx 1hour 15mins and the journey was pleasant enough.
We entered the hotel and found ourselves in a long queue behind numerous holidaymakers from Saga holidays which didn't move anywhere fast. We seemed to queue forever and when we did speak to a member of staff at reception, we were given a card to fill in with our details and then we had to rejoin the queue again. After approx 30 mins we purchased a safe for 14 euros and got our room key. Most staff spoke good English, unfortunately, not the one we got, though he got by ok.
On entering the room we found it to be extremely spacious and very clean. The only down point was that our beds were two 3/4 beds pushed together (bearing in mind this was our honeymoon and the tour company had been made aware of this) so this was quite disappointing to say the least. The rooms had air-con, TV, DVD and music system. We did make the tour rep aware of this the following morning, though he didn't seem keen to have a word with reception for us, so we just left it.
We went and explored the hotel on our arrival and found it to have various accommodation blocks and several pools. All areas were in a good state of repair and very clean. We found the snack bar where we proceeded to have a snack and copious amounts of alcohol, which we both found were most certainly not watered down.
Meal times were hectic and we found that the hotel was dominated by German's, which the brochure had explained. There as a good choice of food on each and every day at every meal time and plenty of it. Staff were very pleasant and courteous at all times.
The beach is about a 15 minute walk, depending on which part you walk to and we found it to be lovely. It wasn't too steep a walk but there were several sets of stairs to descend initially.
The shops are about a 20 minute walk but majority of them sell the same thing. We tried to purchase a digital camera . . . . Never again, wouldn't trust any of the salesmen there at all!!
The weather was between 28-32C each day with a light breeze which was fantastic. The resort is very quiet and not for the partygoer at all, though the resort is still in the process of being built up.
On speaking with a few couples who went to the Barcelo Jandia Mar, it would appear that we certainly had the more superior hotel.
We would definitely go back to Barcelo Jandia Playa and to the resort itself, though would probably hire a car to do a bit more exploring as you really are quite limited.

Submitted By: Mrs S W HaywardThe Beach is fantastic, and yes it is about a 10 minute walk or so downhill but its fine and it does state in the brochure that it is on a steep hill overlooking the sea so I can't understand why people complained - if you’re able bodied and not totally lazy it’s no problem!
The food was I would say good - not great but good, there is a wide variety and we always found something we liked to eat. We did have to queue sometimes for a table but we found this only took 5 minutes and you could see the staff worked their backsides off so we didn't really mind - maybe we are just more easy-going than others??
The entertainment team and staff were very friendly and despite a bit of work needed to repair some broken tiles around the pool, we had no problem will general cleanliness. There are plenty of shops if you walk into town about 15/20 minutes away or taxis are cheap.
Fuerteventura is for those looking for a relaxing beach holiday and we had a great time anyway and would consider going back.
