Hilton Garden Inn Staten Island Hotel

My family and I have stayed at this hotel many times. We moved from the Island about 12 years ago. This hotel is one of two on the island. This one is newer and cleaner. The website is very deceiving it talks about a pool and the preserve. The hotel is constantly bombarded by hoards of party goes. They are load and roam the halls of the hotel. Staff and guests are very nice. Very noisy, wedding, bd parties, swim parties crowd, a lot just at the HG for the day but makes it very hard to get a reservation in the one restaurant or service. People who works at the HG work very hard but if the company expects to grow they need to at least try to address the people they have staying now. Staff are very helpful. Some pluses, one big minus, some issues that may or may not matter. First, positives: The hotel was clean, well kept up, and still seemed "new". Bed linens were comfortable, and the towels were thick – neither was “luxurious”, but still good. Great shower – the head is up high, and for our visit, there was good water temperature and pressure. We stayed here because, right now, there are really only 2 options on Staten Island. While the room was fine, that, and the 24 hr 'business center' (1 computer, 1 copier, and miscellaneous office supplies) are really all you get for your $. Everything else is extra or not really available. You can't use the pool except for limited hours on the weekends and at nights- families with young children who have earlier bedtimes, forget it. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Staten Island, NY for Memorial Day weekend and had a nice stay. No major complaints. The only 2 things that did bother us was that room service does not serve breakfast and with kids sometimes it's nice to eat in the room before going out. Although we did order pizza and fries late one eve and were very happy with it. And the pool is not open during the day on weekdays. My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel, he for business and I for pleasure (I accompanied him on his business trip) for a duration of two weeks. We had a quiet, peaceful stay here even though the hotel is obviously a very popular wedding venue. Loads of people in formal dress in the lobby in the evening but no problem with late night hall noises. The rooms are a little dated. The bed was a little uncomfortable. The bathrooms were very clean and the maid service was terrific. The hotel restaurant had a very nice breakfast with a chef who would make your eggs to order. I had a sweet 16 there and it was marvelous. I would most certainly recommend this hotel in SI.

The directions we had been sent in the mail with the wedding invitation(preprinted by the hotel) were incorrect. After we arrived we had a bit of difficulty figuring out which room the wedding was being held in and did not receive much help or direction so we were wandering around sort of lost. The rooms were adequate and very clean as the place is quite new; and the bathroom shower was especially nice with an open plan (no doors on shower, nice seat in there) though the sink counter surface was small. Recieved a gift certificate for one night stay. Not worth the money that was spent on us. Reserved a non smoking room, was booked into a smoking one; stunk real bad. They couldn't accomodate my request although I booked 2 weeks in advance. Room upkeep average, not as well kept as you would have expected from a hotel only open a little over a year.
