Charming, convenient and comfortable
I recommend the Anchor Inn to anyone planning a stay in the area. The hotel is in a convenient location with available free parking. We were greeted by an awesome desk clerk upon late arrival who actually greeted me by name before I could get my ID and credit card out. Our deluxe room was spacious and clean, and the bed was amazing and comfortable and the jacuzzi was perfect at the end of a long day.

Thank you we are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope to have you back again very soon.

Don't stay here. Don't believe the manager's comments that refute my comments!
Got in Saturday night at 10pm and left Sunday morning at 8am. Decided to stay here because the location was convienient to my in-laws. Room was very dated and old. There was a distinct cigarette odor from the hotel...EVERYWHERE! The hotel reminded me of the hotel from the "Shining". Except the horror is that you paid for the hotel. Beds were soft and uncomfortable. The TV was tiny (28 or 30 inch old tube tv) and didn't produce a clear picture! There have been numerous comments about broken tv's and the manager will refute my... more

We are sorry that your stay was less than pleasant. The issues your brought up that are valid have been taken into consideration and changes as mentioned on several other review are either completed or will be soon. We have upgraded 28 bathrooms thus far this year and are adding 37" flat panel TV"s. All of our deluxe rooms have the flat panel TV's as well. We are taking great strides to keep up with modernity in this rapidly changing technology driven world. Thank you for your feedback.

Major Disappointment
We have stayed at the Anchor Inn in the past and thought we would give it another chance. My parents stayed here in March and warned us that it was not as clean as it could be. She found a few hairs in the bathtub and advised us to bring some disinfectant wipes to clean the room. When we arrived in our room there was dried urine on the tank of the toilet and the bathroom floor was covered in hair. I did not contact the front desk, because at this point we had to go to the front desk three times to get our room key to work, and I would... more

First and foremost, thank you for your repeat patronage. We hope that your most recent experience was an isolated incident and that you will reconsider staying with us again in the future. We have been cracking down on the housekeeping to make sure that no one else experiences what you did. in your room. We recently underwent a major housekeeping staff turn over and hope that our new team will upkeep our much higher standards. As for our breakfast room, the room does have its own air conditioning unit and a full size sliding glass door, which leads to a small seating area for fresh air. Different guests have varying levels of comfort, meaning that if we leave the door open and the air conditioning on, a guest who is cold, may of their own volition decide to close the door or turn off the air conditioning. When dealing with wide variety of clients it is difficult to make everyone happy, but we do try our best to. With regards to people smoking in the hallways, by NY law it is illegal to smoke in the hotel public areas. Smoking is only permitted outdoors or inside of a smoking room that is rented by that guest. That being said, it is possible for a guest to violate the law and smoke in the hallways. If a staff member were to witness it they would be promptly instructed to stop. Unfortunately, the only way to issue a violating to the offenders would be having a uniformed police officer catch them, which is very difficult if not impossible. As for our non-smoking rooms, we are constantly adding more nonsmoking rooms, and until the entire building is converted the potential to have a non-smoking room near a smoking room is possible. We do our best to keep those who are extra sensitive to smoke in our nonsmoking wings. If you decide to return to our property please request to be in a non-smoking wing when making your reservation.

not a good choice
I stayed at this hotel while attending the Belmont Stakes. The good is that room was nicer than I thought no complaints here. The breakfast at 8.30 a.m consisted of bagels..no cream cheese left..frosted flakes and one waffle that i arm wrestled my roommate for..nothing was ever refilled or checked the entire hour I sat outside with my coffee. The front desk rarely raised their heads and never smiled..i realize New York has a reputation to uphold but pleez! There needs to be a staff meeting a a brush up on customer service which this... more

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us with the exception of the continental breakfast. We do provide the free breakfast in the morning from 6:30 until 10 and it is an unstaffed buffet service. It is certainly possible for the breakfast supply to deplete during the service hours and we kindly request that guests come to the front desk (located a few steps away) or call using the house phone in the breakfast room to let us know that more supplies are needed. We will review our service with a smile requirements with the front desk staff to ensure they greet our guests more politely. Thank you for your feedback.

Good value at the Anchor Inn
I stayed at the Anchor Inn last week for two nights. I had originally hoped to stay in Manhattan, but hotel rooms were too expensive. I got a rate of $120/night at the Anchor, which was less than half the cost of comparable hotels in Manhattan. It was relatively easy to commute into the city. About a ten minute walk from the hotel is the LIRR and from there it is a half hour train ride to Penn Station. The hotel itself is dated, but not bad. The hallways are dark and a little smoky, but the room was pleasant. My room was pretty clean,... more
Great stay.
My sister and myself stayed at the Anchor Inn From 1/25/07 to 02/09/07. We were in NY because our father was ill. The staff was most accomodating when we needed to extend our stay and was sincerely concerned about how we were doing. Our father passed and they did whatever they could to help us. The Hotel was clean and well kept, with a great complimentary breakfast, several choices and longer than normal hours. There was a state of the art gym available. The room had many amenities. Refrigerator, internet access, cable TV, Iron... more
Disgusting, creepy, and scary
I came from out of state to look for housing in the Bayside area, which everyone told me was "nice." The Anchor Inn was everything but!!! The hotel looked fine on the website, and since it was close to Bell Boulevard, I decided to stay there. The guy I interacted with when I checked in was creepy. After checking in, I went to look for my room...as I walked past the lobby to find the elevator, I noticed a machine w/ VHS tapes, including adult films. The elevator was old, but functioned. The building was old, smelled like smoke, and looked... more

After a through review we were unable to find any information regarding this guest as having been a guest of our. The items described in the review do not describe our property. Please visit our website to see up to date photos. We do not have any VHS tapes in the hotel we have movies on demand provided by Lodgenet (over 200 to select from). The outside of the building was renovated in 1995 and the inside lobby and corridors were renovated in 2002. The standard rooms were all renovated in 2002. The deluxe rooms were all renovated in 2006, and now have 32" LCD TV's. The continental breakfast has 2 types of cold cereal, hot cereal, fresh bagels, waffles, muffins and all necessary condiments. With regards to their being a mess in the breakfast room. We are a family friendly property and if a child (or adult) makes a mess while serving breakfast, our staff will promptly clean it up.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever!!
I stayed at this hotel for 1 day and honestly thought I was staying in a brothel. Upon check in I was with my girlfriend and the clerk asked if we wanted a short stay for 4 hours!! We saw what appeared to be obvious "working girls" in the hotel after we checked in. The room smelled like urine and the shower/tub was filthy. The soap dishes had rust caked on them. The bed comforter was discolored and very stained. The bathroom waste basket was never changed from the previous guests and had condom wrappers. The TV reception was terrible and the... more

The Anchor Inn should be condemned
The Anchor Inn looks great online and acceptable when standing outside of the building. The lobby is even okay. After that, everything quickly goes down hill. Rooms with broken televisions, broken safes, stained carpet and furniture. That's just the beginning of the problems I found. Way too expensive for what the customer receives in return. They even go as far as to advertise room service on their 'hold' message. When in fact, it is 'delivery' from local restaurants. Very disappointing. Will never stay there again.
Management response from AnchorInn1

The Anchor Inn is a modern 2 diamond/star up to date hotel with many amenities that you would expect at a 3 diamond/star property. Some of which are movies on demand, refrigerators, coffee machines, high speed internet and much more in every room (see our ad). We apologize that this guest had an unfavorable experience and had any of the above mentioned complaints been brought to our attention they would most certainly have been corrected immediately. We just had a complete upgrade to out TV service with the addition of Lodgenet and their results did not come up with any broken TV's, thus invalidating the complaint. Our "message on hold" says "there is room service from several area restaurants" which in turn is delivery. We have electronic safes in everyroom, they are tested daily and should most definately be in proper working condition when a guest checks in. In the event that the internal batteries stop functioning in the interim they are easily replaced and once replaced the safe will work perfect again. An issue such as this would need to be reported to the front desk (otherwise housekeeping would report it upon guest check out). Finally, regarding our rates, our rates are very competitive for New York City. Please see some of the other hotels with similar ratings and you will see that our rates are on par with the other hotels in NYC.

Reasonable and convenient in Bayside
The Anchor Inn offers nice rooms at a reasonable cost--although small they do have refrigerators, iron and ironing board, hair dryers, coffee maker, etc. A very basic continental breakfast of bagels, cereal, juice and coffee is included. They also offer free parking in a small lot and a small garage which is a plus in this congested area. The only drawback is the parking is tight which is a problem when SUVs squeeze in. The Bayside stop for the Long Island Railroad is about six blocks away. It is less than 30 minutes to get into... more
