8 / 10
Feb 2005, Miss S A Honey

Went on my first ever holiday with my little sister, me aged 23 and my sister 18, allocated on arrival.
We were a little apprehensive cause you hear all these horror stories but were extremely happy when we pulled up outside Albir Gardens. The staff were really helpful and friendly although we were a bit disappointed that we had to wait 45 mins for our apartment to be ready.
The apartment was on the top floor of B block and was really nice and cosy, it contained everything that we could possibly need, although it took us a while to work out how to use the cooker, which is more like a microwave.
The staff in the bar were really sweet and helpful, my sister had a problem with some Italians they have in residence at the mo (pre warning for anyone with young girls going). The young man behind the bar did pre-warn us and tell us that they were bothering all young females and to stay away from 'the bad Italian man' (his words not mine)
Albir Gardens outside pool was extremely cold and the indoor pool seemed to have a lot of chlorine in it.
And beware of the religious goings on in the hotel bar, there was a German one on the Wednesday and it wasn’t till half way through we realised that we had been surrounded by people who were giving us evils for smoking and laughing throughout (opps)
The bars opposite were really nice, they are mainly run by the English along here and we found a place called the Regent that turned into our local by the end of the week, and we even went to the bar lady’s birthday bash on our last night. Sunday roast here was good value for money as well! Also try the fish and chip shop next door to Ye Olde Pub for good scampi and chips, they are huge portions and really nice, this is run by the same people as the Regent (maybe I should charge them for advertising???)
We also found another bar which was a little out of the ordinary, and if you are easily scared then the dolls and the cow hanging by their necks off the bar will certainly freak you out, although the drinks are cheap during Happy hour : 0 ) It’s called Bar Ocho.
The beach was also a little disappointing with it being made up of large pebbles and I managed to get cramp in my foot and had to sit down for 15 mins before I could move again, although Benidorm is only 20 mins away on the bus for 90cents each way (yep it’s gone up this year) and although it was more expensive to eat and looked really dirty the beaches and the sea were clean and picturesque.
Evening entertainment could do with being improved, but all in all it was a well needed break and I’m going back in a few months to visit all my friends I made over there!

Took a chance of some last minute sun...
9 / 10
Oct 2004, Mr A Cowper

Took a chance of some last minute sun during the school holidays.
We arrived fairly late on as the flight had been delayed. We were given a ground floor apartment overlooking the pool, which is what we had asked for.
The apartment was small but clean with regular cleaning/new towels and sheets. The outside areas were also clean and tidy with no litter around to pool at all.
The outdoor pool, however, was very cold! Although that may have been down to the time of year. They opened the indoor pool just before we left after they had done some repair work to it.
The Chinese restaurant opposite the complex is REALLY nice and very good value. If you want hearty fry ups then the Regent Pub just down the road is also a good stop.
The supermarket down the road has a better layout and more choice, and is only a hundred yards away, as it seems more of the locals use this one rather than the one opposite the complex.
If you like your cheap tat then Benidorm is the place for you!
Loads of shops selling pretty much the same stuff, but good for the kids pocket money.
A shining light for us was PAULS PUB AND DINER, located just down a side road off the main road that runs parallel with the seafront.
Sometimes a mug of coffee is in order when all around are only selling cups!! So thanks to Paul and Tina.
Clean toilets too boot!
Its on Avenida Mediterraneo in Benidorm if your ever there.
All in all we had a good time. The buses to and from Benidorm are regular and pretty much everyone will excuse your Spanish however bad, as mine is!!
As yet there didn’t seem to be too much building going on.
We enjoyed the complex for a week but for 2 weeks you would really need a car to travel further a field.

Oct 2004, Mrs S Gedge

Just got back from a great holiday at Albir gardens. 4 adults + 4 children.
Only 1 complaint, the steps + paths just outside bar area near the pool are very slippery when wet.! Saw a few people struggle to keep their balance, mostly kids, they have to run everywhere.
Rooms big enough for us, you only need to sleep and store your suitcase in them.
Lovely pool area, plenty of sun beds or chairs. Lifeguard on duty all day, except for lunch hour. Security guards patrol at night.
Some very nice bars + restaurants all the way to the beach, especially the Indian, very good portions. They are all trial + error, its all according to your tastes.
Must say the rep wasn’t overly helpful with volunteering information on getting to trips by yourselves, she failed to tell us the medieval night was 2 minutes walk down the road, and instead we waited nearly an hour for the coach to pick us up. Recommend the Water Park, and terra mitica. No.10 bus goes everywhere.
We would all go back again, no complaints from any of us, or the many people we spoke to while we were there.

Sep 2004, Miss Katie Foster

Albir gardens are the best hotel you can stay at. Me my mom, my cousin and my brother all went there in September and it was my birthday on holiday my 15th and Pablo one of the bar staff played his saxophone for me. All the bar staff are great! They talk very good English. There is loads of places to eat and the best place where you can go for a karaoke is the ‘ye olde pub’ opposite the hotel. The beach is nice and there is another beach in Benidorm just 20minutes away on the bus. It is 85 cent on the bus per person. All the people who work there are really friendly. Look out for Pablo & gasper they are the best gasper every year as called me pretty and that’s my nickname to him. I would say that it should be a five star hotel and that we are going back there again in June 2005 xxx ITS THE BEST! I DIDN'T WANT TO COME BACK I WAS CRYING XXX the entertainment is ok!

We all had a great time at the Albir gardens we were a family of four adults and three children. the resort was very clean, the apartments are on the small size but we only slept in them, the pool area is fantastic with three different size pools, we always got sun loungers as well.
It is kids paradise with so much to do there is a lovely playground and there is always something for them to do with the kids club, also there is a mini disco on every night for them and karaoke as well. definitely, go to aqualandia and mundomar they are a great day out.
We will definitely go back to the Albir Gardens

As a party of 4 adults and 3...

Aug 2004, Mrs E Hamilton

As a party of 4 adults and 3 children, we were very disappointed with almost everything at the Albir gardens and will never return. Our party could not be accomodated together and there were no lifts. We were located in one of several small 3 storey blocks that were crawling with ants.
There is nothing at all for teenagers to do. The complex appears to be a Spanish timeshare and all day reps are showing Spanish families around the complex. In the evening you cant get a seat in the bar area as the Spanish reps are there trying to close deals. There are not enough parasols around the pool area and the ones they have are dangerous with broken spokes sticking out. The apartments in the main block have lifts and air conditioning but were all fully occupied.
The Aqua Park is nice day out and the supermarket across the road from Albir gardens offers the best discount tickets. Be warned that once in the aqua park you have to pay for rubber rings to use some of the rides, which you must then drag, around the park with you all day, and you must also pay for the use of sun loungers and lockers.
There is not much in the resort of Albir itself several shops and restaurants. The beach is made of large white pebbles, which are very difficult to walk on. We were unable to go in the water as the pebbles can be dangerous and make you loose your footing.
There is very little entertainment around the area there is a karaoke bar opposite the complex, an Irish pub and a cabaret/lap dancing club. If you go to the other end of the road there are a lot of strip bars and topless clubs.
The complex itself has entertainment in the form of a kids disco starting about 7.30 then a poor attempt at a show for adults but it is mainly in Spanish.
Benidorm can be reached either by the number 10 bus every 30 mins and takes about 25 mins for 85c or by taxi at a cost of 7 euros each way. Benidorm is not within walking distance and you cant take inflatable lilos etc on the bus if you want to try the beach at Benidorm.
Lilos and inflatables will not be tolerated in the pool at the Albir gardens so don’t buy any.

Apartments were clean but small, and...

Jul 2004, Mr KJ Waddington

Apartments were clean but small, and cleaned twice a week. When we first got there the room we were allocated didn’t get any sun and you couldn’t open the bedroom shutters for a tree right outside of it. After our meeting with our rep who was very helpful with places to go and eat, and on what we should get for the room to stop being eaten by the mosquitoes, we went to the reception and complained about the room, which they changed for us with no problem. Fridges take a long time to chill anything.
Places that are worth a visit Aqualandia, as good for kids and adults alike as plenty to do or just relax, Terra Mitika also very good value for money, open till about midnight, once again lots of rides for both adults and kids and also shows. Finally the medieval night.
The entertainment in the evening was very good starting with a kids disco and going on to adult’s quizzes and games and shows for all the family. Get the No.10 bus in into Benidorm or Altea for 85cents as they run every 15 - 20 mins or you can get a Taxi to Benidorm or Altea and back for around 6 euros.

Jul 2004, Mr C Miller

Definite 9/10, great location for lively Benidorm or quiet Albir, ye old pub which is across the road from the complex is open till 3.30am but has a dodgy host; we found an excellent Chinese res. on way to beach. It’s up a side street on right hand side, can’t remember name but its next door to a Salsa dancing club. Outstanding food and value for money.
The apartments themselves are ok for 4 max but very very warm at night, we had 5 cockroaches and some ants in our room over 7 nights this was our only complaint, in general it was a good choice and would definitely go again. Pool area is great and clean; we found night entertainment a bit mixed and 2 euros for a game of pool a bit extreme for the kids.

Jul 2004, Mrs Y Dodsley-Cook

We booked at the last minute and had a good deal. Having read some of the comments after booking we were a little apprehensive of what we were going to, however there was no need! There were 4 adults sharing the apartment, which was shall we say cosy and we do know each other very well now! The rooms, although small were adequate but if we went again we would have either a 2 bed or separate apartments.
The location was good and all areas kept clean and tidy, particularly the pool areas, which were cleaned daily. There was entertainment nightly and although not our choice seemed to be popular with a lot of guests. The staff were helpful and we asked for a safe key were told the room safes did not work but we could use the ones in the main foyer. This was ok apart from the fact that you had to go to it nightly to collect and deposit items of value, somewhat inconvenient but at least safe. We would definitely go back, especially at the same price we paid.

Jul 2004, Mrs D Jamieson

On arrival we were impressed by reception area of complex and prompt check in. Directions to apartment could have been better as we were allocated 3rd floor of Block L and were not made aware that there were 3 blocks of L!! This resulted in hubby lugging cases to 3rd floor of block L1 not knowing there were 2 other blocks!!!
Apartment was okay - clean, fairly spacious (although couldn’t imagine 4 adults in it!!) and good firm bed!! Kitchen area too small but saved on cooking!!
We would suggest Albir Garden management look at installing a ceiling fan in living area of apartment and this would certainly give an air conditioned feel.
Staff were generally very friendly and helpful although we felt restaurant manager could have been a bit more customer friendly.
Personally feel that entertainment could have been a bit better and certainly throughout the day it appeared that Spanish guests were favored to take part in activities.
Overall we felt that Albir Gardens catered for our young family and we would certainly recommend it to family and friends with young families.

Just got back from 2 weeks at the...

Jul 2004, Mr B Clark

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Albir Gardens.(July 2004)
We are a family of four (Two Kids 13 years & 12 Years).
We found the apartments very small for the four of us, there was no Air conditioners in the room we were in, (apparently air conditioners are only in the main building so the odds are you will not get one of the favoured rooms on arrival you could always ask at reception, but it’s highly unlikely that you will be given one. there is a gym an indoor pool and apparently a cinema!!!! we never saw anybody using these facilities but they are there and I think you would have to badger the reception to get to use these...
You do need to get a safe deposit box at reception, it is big enough for cameras etc., it is recommended that you secure your valuables in this manner, rental for 2 weeks was 30 euros and you get back 10 when returning lock.
There was one occasion during our stay when we saw some kids trying the balcony doors of some of the ground apartments around where we were sited, and later we saw what we thought were Security Guards and police in an apartment lying in wait, we never heard or saw anything else. (These kids (teenagers) were not Spanish)
The outdoor pools are fantastic a real plus something for all ages, we spent a lot of time in them.
Albir itself is a bit quiet but it is surprisingly nice the waterfront is in excellent order the beach is rocky (not sand)
but if you wear sandals it’s ok, water Quality is very good.
safe for kids to play in.
Benidorm is only 20 mins away on No 10 bus-Cost 85 cents (about 60pence) By Taxi 10 mins away - Cost 7.50 euros around £5 odds.
If you want a holiday away from the noise and bustle of Benidorm but to be able to access the nightlife/entertainment easily then we would recommend Albir as a base.
Aqualandia is only minutes away in a taxi as is Mundimar, Terra mittica is a bit further away but still quite cheap to get to by Taxi.
We would recommend the Medieval night at the castle just down the road from Albir Gardens it’s great fun for all the family
The local fair in the pubs round about is of a high standard and is a better bet than eating in the hotel although the hotel food is quite nice it’s actually cheaper for a family to eat out.
You should try The Regent. Ye olde Pub just outside the complex these were popular.
Supermarkets near hand are very good quite reasonable, personally we thought the one directly opposite the Complex was the best but it was a bit more expensive but had a better choice of goods.
Last comment as a warning the cooking facilities in the apartments leave much to be desired, if they work at all (you’ll be lucky),It took over an hour to boil a kettle of water.
And the fridges are at best severely lacking, milk goes off within 24 hours so be prepared to eat out.
You can purchase Fans etc. in the local supermarkets cheaper than you can hire them from reception, also electric kettles are quite cheap to buy!!!
When dealing with staff at the complex we found them ok reception staff were very helpful, We were warned by other guests to watch the bar staff as "they are chancers", there was occasions when our daughter went to the bar/snack bar and was over charged so maybe the other guests were right in warning us. and another time I was totally ignored at the bar in favour of some drunks who had obviously been there all day, so rather than complain I just went elsewhere and spent my money.
The next night everything was ok, the staff couldn’t have nicer..
Entertainment at the complex- consisted of one act every night at about 23.00 hrs before this is the kids time, disco Karaoke etc. saturday night there is no act except for a middle aged couple who sing not my scene but may appeal to others
the act every other night of the week are actually ok some very visual acts (gets over the language barrier).
African Dancers were really good and surprisingly the Beatles tribute band is excellent if you ignore the Spanish accents and the fact that George Harrison sings most of the songs.??
You really need to visit Benidorm after a night on the Albir Gardens terrace to get over the culture shock (LOL).
When in Benidorm We would recommend a new bar only been open for 7 weeks called the Variety Bar right along the street from Lavante Square it’s a small bar with 3 acts nightly and is really very good, food excellent, and the bar staff and owner are very friendly. a good place to start in before getting into the more robust bars later on. first act about 9pm last act finishes about 11.30pm.
Not much entertainment on going in the bars in Albir but there is some, best sample for yourself there is a very popular Chinese restaurant along the road from the complex was busy every night, (Not the one opposite complex).
Also if your into American style food visit the American Diner in Albir the food is great and you get huge portions the Ice Cream Sundays are great!!! (so the kids say)..
There’s also a craft market every night at the beachfront it’s really nice worth a visit, some nice stuff for sale..
Overall We would recommend the Albir Gardens for a holiday if your not expecting to much and you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Benidorm but still be able to get to it easily. we were in Lanzarote last year and had a great holiday (I think this spoilt us a bit), we got back to reality in Albir it is a normal Spanish holiday nothing out of the ordinary usual stuff but that’s not all bad.
