We arrived at our apartment at 2am in the morning, extremely tired and in need of a good sleep in a nice apartment. We were in a ground floor apartment in Block G, G103. It was then that we realised that we didn't have a nice apartment. No towels, lack of kitchen utensils and equipment, a very musty unpleasant smell in the apartment, and a bath which was not very clean. Also, the shower over the bath did not work.
As a result of this we went to reception but the night porter could not move us. We therefore spent the first night without unpacking. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful the next day, we could not fault the reception staff, and as other reviews suggested, we asked to be moved to Block B. Which was a much improved room, more fresher, all things expected in the room and everything worked. The only downside was the balcony furniture was shabby and stacked up in the corner.
Overall, Albir is a lovely place to stay. My partner has previously stayed at the Albir Gardens 9 years ago when it was obviously new, and it was really nice back then. But now it has got into such a run-down state and in need of a total refurbishment. During our stay we talked to other guests staying there and quite a few also had traumas with their rooms, such as leaks, no towels, no kitchen eqpt.....
One plus point, we found out that it was only 15 euros per day to go all inclusive. Which is a bargain if you intend to have a few beers... But we decided not to as from what we could establish the food there was ok but the standard buffet style food on offer. There are also some very nice restaurants nearby, we recommend Paulino's and Transilvania. Very nice food indeed and the set menu's are very good value.
We will be back to Albir, but definitely not staying at Albir Gardens. Which is a shame because it is a good place gone bad.

Having just spent a week at this complex I found it to be lovely. My husband and I stayed on a half board basis and have no complaints at all. The staff were really friendly and our apartment was clean and comfortable. We were in block E but did not have any problems finding our apartment even though we only arrived at 3.15am.

Myself and my partner booked the Albir Gardens as a last minute cheap getaway minus our children and I have to say for laugh value I give it 10/10. We arrived and were given our map to find our apartment luckily for me my partner is a bit more switched on than myself so we found our way to it quite quickly. Our apartment was basic to say the least, no cutlery, 1 dish, 1 cup, no plates or kettle which I always thought were minimum requirements in self catering accomodation. The room needed a good clean and I think the only thing that was holding the sofa together was the dirt!!!!!!
But we did not let this stop us from having a good time, the resort of Albir is lovely and the resort of Altea which can be walked to along the sea front in about 30 minutes. The bars and restaurants were lovely and the people we found were great. Don't bother with the entertainment in the hotel as to be honest there isn't any, the hotel is very basic and caters mainly for spanish but we had no problem with any of the staff and when you see what they have to put up with off some holiday makers you can almost begin to understand why they look so miserable all of the time...
On the whole me and my partner had a good laugh and enjoyed the holiday and would definitely return to Albir again but I am afraid not the Albir Gardens.

I was very impressed with the Albir Gardens accommodation. The pool was clean and very spacious, and there was even a small pool for the children, with sun loungers around so parents could keep a watchful eye on their children. Lifeguards were on duty at all times around the pool and there was even a holiday representative getting the guests to do dance routines in the pool, which even us adults joined in with.
All rooms had balconies and were clean and tidy. A cleaner came into the apartment and thoroughly give the room a once over to my approval, leaving clean towels on a daily basis.
The entertainment that was put on was enjoyed by both adults and children, with animal shows for the children and such things as cabaret and bingo for the adults.
The location of the hotel was great too with a pebble beach in walking distance and a sandy beach just a bus ride away. Also the centre of Benidorm is only a bus drive away; however taxis were also located outside the accommodation.

Arrived at Manchester Airport at 6pm for our three hour check in. Finally arrived at Albir Gardens at 3-15am. We were just put off the coach and informed by the rep that hotel staff would undertake our check in.
With very little English the staff drew a map of where our room was we found ourselves wandering around the gardens searching for our block. It was now 3.30 in the morning the complex was in darkness and we were struggling to pull our cases. We were in need of a drink but there was no where open to purchase water or anything to eat. Shops and bars in the area were closed and the hotel had nothing to provide us with.
When we finally found the block (d) we found it to be clean but sparse and in need of a makeover. There were very limited cooking items and even less plates and dishes. The shower was over the bath on a mixer tap type system. The shower was a law to itself as the pipe shot off in all directions. The ceiling in the bathroom was damp and the wooden window over the bath was soaked and we would often find lumps of swollen wood which had broken away, in the bath.
The rep was useless he was not interested in assisting at all. The welcome meeting was a joke we were told to just enjoy.
I would not advise anyone to visit the Albir Gardens unless they were staying in BLOCK B. Block B we found out from other holiday makers was wonderful having just enjoyed a fantastic make over.
I thought my room was of poor quality but when I spoke to other people on the complex their rooms were far worse some having holes in the bath and others having no lighting and walls painted green with windows which would not open.
The blocks are on three floors and there are no lifts. The reception area has dirty chair arms and seats. The report of Albir was lovely but the Albir Gardens needs to be closed until they can undertake a much needed make over.
For those of you who are travelling soon remember request block b the rooms are fantastic!

We arrived on wed pm, after leaving Edinburgh in the early morning, transfer was a nightmare from the airport, bus excellent, but the estimated time was at least double as we were the last drop, on bus almost 3 hours.
Hotel excellent and immaculate clean. Very pleased that we got an apartment even though we were half board.
Apartment basic but like the hotel very clean and pleased that each block has security entrance systems, especially as I have a 4 year old. Hotel itself has security gates and high walls, so only entrance in was via reception only.
Only complaint with apartment, they don't clean them or change sheets from Friday morning till Monday afternoon, which was a pain as it was 35o, but asked for clean sheets and towels at reception, and they were put in the room within the hour.
Members of staff, very helpful but more could make an effort of speaking better English, but we didn't have any problems except getting clean sheets and towels over the weekend.
Restaurant food was buffet style, no matter what time you went down there was plenty to choose from and staff very helpful. Only complaint food could be more orientated for children, i.e. chicken nuggets/fish fingers etc, we had to feed our son before going down for dinner, this worked out quite good for us though, as the restaurant didn't open till 8pm.
We had a great time, never visited Spain before, but when you have young children you need somewhere that you can get basic food and relative safe!!!
We would definitely go back to this area, not necessary this hotel, don't want to spoil the good memories. Would highly recommend.

Just back from a two week stay and I have to say the Albir Gardens were such a disappointment. Apartments were tiny and in need of major refurbishment. The kitchen was flooded on arrival and there was no electricity or kitchen utensils. Staff were extremely rude and ignored any complaints. Many families complained especially regarding entertainment as it was all in Spanish. The majority of the guests were Spanish and they were so loud and rude. None of the English speaking children could take part in the kids clubs which was so upsetting as it was in Spanish. The beach was terrible as one couldn’t even walk on it let alone swim as it was full of extremely painful stones and pebbles. There is no entertainment in Albir and in early evening one can see many prostitutes just outside mc Donald’s. We didn’t go into Benidorm as it was full of sleaze everywhere, more call girls, sex shops, what a hideous place. We will never go back.

This is our second time back to the Albir Gardens, our first time was three years ago. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we had to go back, but I will not be going back again, it has changed so much it's not funny.
When we arrived we were left waiting for our room for two hours, I have three small children and after a long day travelling we just wanted to get into our apartment. We arrived at 6 in the evening so our rooms should have been ready, when I asked when our room would be ready at reception I was told it would be ready when its ready. Great start.....
The apartments are fine, a bit small but we only used them as a base anyway. Our apartments only got cleaned once in the two weeks we were there and that was the day before we came home. We had to go to reception on numerous occasions to get towels and sheets.
The pool area is great but all the beds are taken by 9.00am so if you do not go down early and put your towel on some beds forget about it. When we were down at the pool if we went up for lunch and came back down to the pool our towels would be on the floor and our beds and umbrellas gone. There are so many Spanish at this resort now.
The staff at the Albir Gardens have got very rude, the reception staff are really rude, but for me the bar staff are terrible we were left waiting at the bar for 20 mins on more than one occasion while all the Spanish around me were getting served, at this stage I had had enough so I went to see the manager (Sandra) who was pleasant enough and offered me a free meal which I did not use..... she told me she would try and sort my complaints.
Lastly the entertainment was all in Spanish so after the second night we just went in to Benidorm every night, the bar area inside is just a big office for time-shares, this complex is now nearly all time-shares so there is very few English, Irish, Welsh or Scots just a lot of Spanish.
I have never complained before about a holiday I'd normally just grin a bare it but I couldn’t this time as the difference in the resort compared to a few years ago is massive, this complex should not be in the travel brochures anymore..........

The accomodation was acceptable for a weeks holiday. When we arrived there were no towels in the room but when we asked at reception they were sent right up. There was no kettle or teapot in the room so we used the pots to boil water. The pool area was clean and the entertainment in the hotel was a bit cheesy. We went self catering and there were plenty of restaurants of different nationalities to choose from in Albir, you could also pay to eat in the hotel's dining room which was basic but edible.

My husband and i were bitterly disappointed with this resort. Our room was filthy and had an insect nest growing out the ceiling.
The women in the resort were not friendly at all. The food was average, some nights better than others. Our rep tried to sort out our apartment to get it cleaned but all the cleaner did was pour a bottle of water over one of the filthy skirting boards, we still scratch when we think of the place and would hate other people to be subjected to this.
Our holiday was spoiled. Please do not go here if you can avoid it.

The complex itself was great much better than high rise hotels in benidorm. Great for kids the pool was excellent, very clean and life guards there at all times.
I found the staff friendly enough considering they all worked about 19 hours a day but make the effort to say ola and gracias.
The rooms basic but a base. The cooking facilities didn’t really work. Our towels weren’t changed for a week and a half. The entertainment was great for kids such as reptile shows and parrots but was aimed for Spanish people but you’re in Spain.
Eating out was cheap enough if you go full board in the hotel for €15 a day it included all of your meals or if you’re going out they will pack your lunch although plain good value, and includes all local alcohol for the whole day and anything that children want during the day at the pool.
If you’re looking for a gorgeous restaurant you must go to Dracula it was gorgeous.
All in all very nice place beautiful resort.

Arrived at 1145 pm, welcomed by a very helpful receptionist who showed us a map of the complex and told us our room was a long walk away (block h) .
Got into the room and it stunk! It was like walking into a hot room and being hit by the heat, only on this occasion it wasn’t the heat it was stale smoke! It was terrible, we’re not fussy but I thought I couldn’t even breathe in this room let alone live there for a week. So I went to reception and asked to move, the receptionist told me it was too late tonight and to come back in the morning. This meant to us no sleep at all that night, it really was bad!
The pools were out of order but to be fair, the previous week Albir and that part of Spain had severe floods.
Our 2nd room was clean and tidy and had a half decent view of the mountains at the back of the complex again in cell block h, although I think they needed to knock the room down and build it again as it was seriously dated! The beds were terrible to sleep in and my hips were aching all week after sleeping in them!
Albir itself is lovely and we will be glad to go back but will not be staying at the Albir Gardens.
Top tips - --
1- The Kactus or Playa Albir hotels were much nicer;
2 - Hong Kong restaurant is very cheap and you get loads of food and drink;
3 - Paradise bar on the front is cheapest for alcohol;
4 - Restaurant next to the winning post is good for breakfast;
5- Piccadilly bar in Benidorm is good and cheap.
