Mar 2008, Mr J Lloyd

What a lovely place to stay. I have actually had the peasure of this accomodation now on no less than 4 occasions. I am lucky enough to have spent a large chunk of my life on the Coasta Blanca as my parents own a villa in Altea (A quaint little market village just 4 miles down the road). Within Alfaz del Pi lies an ex pat cricket club and this is the reason for my stay, together with about 25 others at the Albir Gardens Apartments.
It is a very well laid out resort that allows for a hgh level of privacy, without huge mutistory buidings. Each seperate 'block' is no more than 3 floors high and has easy disabled access to the lower floor of each.
The pool and lounging area is very large for an accomodation of this size and moreover is very very clean and always tidy. There is also an indoor pool and health spa facility which is very handy indeed! This is my only gripe though as oe of the jacussi's was a little grubby, but this is no fault of the hotel just the users who simply do not shower before entering.
All in all i would recommend this hotel to anyone, yes its not a 4 star but it offers good comfortable surrounding with a pleasent atmosphere in the restraunts, bars and also the pool area. The facilities are all good and free to use and enables a good easy holiday.

Jan 2008, Mr J Kingston

This is a late reveiw after our holiday in August 07.On arrival at Albir Gardens we were in two minds about what the hotel had to offer. It didn't look very welcoming on the outside and looked like it needed a big makeover. As we were signing in we noticed the hotel was very crowded. We went to our room which was very clean and looked very modern which suprised us.The hotel rooms were simple the best thing was the air con (especially in 40 degree heat!) and a TV with eurosport and BBC1 on!! there was a kitchen,a dining table, sofabed, seperate bedroom and a balcony which was a good size. The hotel rooms were cleaned nearly everyday with regular bed and towel change. The hotel service was excellent and staff friendly. There was entertainment nightly which always stopped at midnight so people could get some sleep!! (even though the thunderstorms kept you awake anyway). The swimming pool was VERY crowded and very noisy with lots of foreign people almost no english at all which made us feel very alienated, the swimming pool area was also too small to accomodate the amount of people in the hotel. We had an amazing rep with mytravel called Richard he was extremly helpful and would do anything for you, he was a very friendly person and made us feel very comfortable where we were (What a legend!).Albir itself was ok the transport system was good with taxi and bus stops right outside the hotel. The beach was very nice although it was a long walk from the hotel. There is a supermarket opposite the hotel which is very good, and a restaurant we recommend called Bistro Maya Albir Mexican restaurant serving really good food and the waiters were really friendly. It is right near the beach and is worth the walk!Albir is very safe with lots of police around and a safe environment. The bad thing about Albir is the weather it was very miserable and overcast for about 4 days of our holiday which suprised us as it was August.Albir is nice but not traditional enough. Overall the hotel was ok and Albir was a bit disappointing we wouldn't go bck to Albir but do not let it put you off Spain as it is a really nice country! I hope this reveiw helped.

Excellent hotel staff very friendly, lobby and bar area always clean. Pool cleaned on a daily basis, plenty to do in and out of the hotel. If you visit this hotel recommend hiring a car and travelling a little bit more as there are plenty of excellent sites to visit. Plenty of bars and restaurants, easy to reach Benidorm for night life but excellent in the day. Would recommend this hotel to anyone really was good.

If you book these apartments i think that you will be very disappointed. About a fifteen minute walk into the centre of albir/ main beach. As for the apartments well where do i start. We had ants crawling through the apartment, when i told them at reception i was handed a can of ant killer spray which of course i could not use as i have a four year old daughter and could not use in such a confined area. We never seen the cleaners the whole week we was there and no bed linen or clean towels were given to us. About the third night the b'day in the bathroom decided to loosen itself of the floor so then we had a stream running through the bathroom, again i went down to reception they said they would send a maintenance man up straight away to us they never came!!! until mid afternoon the next day, by this stage we had used all the towels in the apartment to mop the flood up. what a commotion to try and get clean towels, i think they were on commission to not help you!!!!! Then two top the week of we had no running hot water for two days and the helpful lady on reception (not!!!!) told us it would be back on within the hour. When you have spent the day on the beach and you have suntan lotion and sand everywhere the last thing you need is no running hot water!!!! Cats everywhere so don't request a ground floor as you will wake up with them sleeping all over your terrace. Very basic apartments inside and very dirty. Its supposed to be self catering this include one fry pan, one saucepan ,kettle, two forks, two spoons , two knifes, we had to share cutlery for breakfast.!! Take my advice do not book this i have stayed in some lovely apartments and hotels in benidorm/albir and trust me this was is the PITS.

Ignore all moaners and complainers,...

Jan 2008, Mr K KENNEDY

Ignore all moaners and complainers, after years of holidaying in Spain I must say Albir Gardens is one of the nicest places I have ever been to. Having read the reviews I was very apprehensive about booking it, however the price was right so we went ahead with it.

When we were shown to our apartment we felt it was a bit on the small side as there was four in our group; three adults and one child. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean and to give ourselves more space we used the balcony as a dining room.

The pool area was well maintained and well staffed with lifeguards, also the surrounding gardens and tennis courts were beautifully maintained (the orange trees are a nice feature).

The bar was also very nice with entertainment laid on every night, bar staff were helpful and friendly with the exception of one grumpy female member. We will definitely be going back there again.

We booked 9 nights at Albir Gardens,...

Dec 2007, Mr M Hetherington

We booked 9 nights at Albir Gardens, my wife my 4 year old and myself. All I can say is thank god we had a car to get away as much as possible. The staff, reception, bar staff, children’s entertainers were totally hopeless. I was especially upset for our daughter who usually loves going to the discos etc. as the children’s entertainment was abysmal (all the games were designed to get all the kids off tiny stage as quickly as possible leaving about 3 kids left for whole evening playing games) - the kids entertainers didn’t have a clue.
The room was far too small for 3 of us. We had no coat hangers and only enough towels for just the 2 of us, I went to receptionist who just didn’t want to help. I had to beg for more towels and a kind gent stood next to me took to his room for coat hangers (he had to buy his own toilet rolls!).
The outside bar area was filthy and always lots of litter every where.
The bar staff were horrible (unless you were Spanish).
In 12 years of going abroad this was the first bad experience my wife and I had. I’m just upset my family had to endure this place.
Calpe 10 miles north was lovely though.

Nov 2007, la2633

Having read some of the reviews I felt compelled to add my own.
We went to the Albir Gardens in April; it was our first holiday abroad with the children aged 11 and 6. The Albir Gardens were a great base for a good holiday.
The apartments were very basic but did the job. The swimming pools were fantastic, clean and well looked after. The indoor pool was spotless and the Jacuzzi and hot tub were great fun.
The guests were mainly Spanish, we were the only English family there, but the staff were helpful and even tried to get the kids involved with the Spanish activities. Albir itself was full of places to eat and the view along the sea front was fantastic.
The beach was not very good for swimming with little ones as it dropped away quite steeply. We spent most of our week on Benidorm beach; I would recommend the little bay around by the harbour.
We took the children to Mundomar where they got into the water with the dolphins and had a picture taken.
One very important tip I picked up was to buy a BonoBus on the bus. It cost 17 euro and you could use it every time you jumped on the bus, instead of each journey costing 1 euro it only cost 85 cents. You just swipe the card over the machine when you get on the bus. It worked out a good money saver.
I would go there again without any worries at all.

Nov 2007, la2633

Having read through the last few reviews I feel compelled to add my own.
Earlier this year myself, husband and our two children aged 7 and 11 went for our first package holiday abroad. We were one of the last drop offs but at least we got a guided tour of Benidorm.
It was a relief to arrive at the Albir Gardens and we were checked in within 20 minutes. It was very busy with lots of cyclists from around Europe and also lots of Spanish guests. We were given a map of complex and told how to get to our apartment.
We walked through the lovely grounds and entered our accommodation. It was quite small but had everything we needed, as we only using the hotel as a base.
The outdoor pools were great and the children spent many hours running and jumping to their hearts content, (water was quite cold though in April). The indoor pool was even better; we all used it and the Jacuzzi and hot tub. Did not try the restaurant as we ventured out every day to eat. The supermarket opposite has everything you need including large cartons of Sangria for 1Euro.
The evening entertainment was a bit disappointing but the Spanish entertainers tried their best to involve our children, who were the only two English children there. Altea is a beautiful town to visit, just jump on the bus outside and off you go along the coast. The bus the other side takes you to Benidorm, which we did quite often as the beach is fab there. Lots of great shops to keep the kids entertained and made for great people watching in the beach front cafes.
I would go back there without any worries, but the hotel is out of the way and is filled with mainly Spanish people. If you wanted a holiday where you could stay on site and be entertained everyday then this hotel is not for you. This is a great place for a quiet holiday with beautiful scenery all around and within easy access of Benidorm and all its delights.

Don't go to this place! A--When we...

Don't go to this place!
A--When we checked in we then were left to find our own way to our accom it was late at night and the accom was set a long distance from reception, poorly lit and poorly sign posted and this was after the Albir Gardens had been pre warned that we needed disabled accom.
B--The apartment smelt musty and felt cold and damp but we were too tired to do anything at that point. There were no blankets or heating available and we spent the night shivering with cold.
After 2 requests for blankets the following day we were given some late that evening. We discovered our accom was damp because our block got little sun and heavy rain had soaked or flooded it just before we had arrived. The balcony had no view and again never got any sun on it, we decided it was best to put up with the accom as it was very difficult for us to move our cases etc, because of physical disabilities that we have and would only use the apartment to sleep and eat in.
C--The outside snack bars were closed as I quote "it is winter season now" but the indoor heated pool was not being used as it was "not winter season yet".
D-- Flooded out of apartment on Friday 12th after storm, only offered one above ours although told staff it was not suitable because of disabilities we have and it could only be accessed by 2 flights of stairs, also the block could only be accessed by wading through nearly knee high muddy filthy water.
We HAD to transfer into it as there was no other option given. Discovered no hot water no clean cold water and staff said tomorrow it will be sorted. Then strong smell of diesel or petrol fumes all round block, told don’t worry.
E-- By Sunday night situation worse, toilet flushing with dirty water, electric light in bedroom flashing, no hot water, dirty cold water ,fume smell still happening, complex filthy still walking on muddy paths. Wanted to leave but had no other hotel phone numbers so had to wait till Monday morning when we checked in to the Venus hotel in Albir.
This although only half a mile away was spotlessly clean with no dirty water problems and the staff were very courteous and extremely helpful right up to the time we left on thurs 18th to return to England.
I feel the Albir Garden Complex was poorly managed and the staff unequipped or trained to deal with disabled customers and emergency situations, no warning signs were put up and no sign of the complex being disinfected or hosed down thoroughly seemed to have happened by the time we left on Monday 15th.
Both myself and my husband had stomach upsets from the second day at Albir gardens although we only drank boiled or bottled water there. Probably the heavy rain before we arrived had started to contaminate the water.
I did complete a complaint form at Albir gardens and I do have a stamped copy. All Spanish establishments must by law have a complaint book which not many tourists know about.
The trauma of all we went through made us ill both myself and my husband are only now starting to feel slightly better as we arrived home both physically and mentally drained.
A big thank you to the Irish boys and our Scottish friends who without your help and assistance we would not have managed to get our luggage into the taxi to take us to our new hotel.

"DO NOT STAY HERE" My husband and I...
1 / 10
Oct 2007, Mr J Mills

"DO NOT STAY HERE" My husband and I stayed at Abir Gardens arriving just before the major floods and leaving after the worst of the floods had gone down. We had pre-advised that both of us have walking problems, but were allocated an apartment in block B which we stumbled around in the dark trying to find, and found the accom to be quite a long distance from the main facilities.
The apartment smelt musty and felt cold and damp, also there were no blankets to use on the beds, we were so tired and exhausted that we just laid down and tried to sleep but spent most of the night awake cold and miserable. The next day after 2 requests for blankets we got some late in the evening and had discovered that the sun although shining did not shine into the apartment or onto the balcony at all and we also had no view. At this time as we only planned to use the apartment as a base for sleeping and eating we decided to make the best of things as we didn't want to have to lug our suitcases around because of physical probs.
The complex looked down at heel and the indoor pool couldn't be used because I quote"it isn't winter yet" but the outdoor pool bars were closed down as again I quote " it it isn't summer now". Little did we know that our worst nightmare was due to start on the 12th of Oct yes we did have bad storms with very heavy rain, but for a large complex to have what appeared to be no proper emergency procedures to put into place made the whole situation a nightmare come true. As the whole area outside became a lagoon other guests who like us were in the main building in the bar area told us not to try and reach our block as it was flooded and the water was knee high if not deeper in the access pathways and complex roads to our and other blocks.
The staff made no public announcements and panic stricken people were crowding round the main reception desks asking for help. We were told by reception move up to the second floor in your block there were no lifts in that block so asked please put us where we can use the lift which was in the main front area NO NO was the reply so we had no choice but to wade through filthy water late that night and drag our belongings with no help to the apartment above ours. Things got worse, no hot water, dirty cold water, the whole area near us smelt of diesel or similar fumes very strongly. Footpaths still caked in mud the pool area useless and no signs saying don't drink tap water appeared although by the Monday morning when we hastily had left and booked into another hotel the water was still coming from the taps muddy. We both felt physically ill and mentally drained by our horrific experience and the lack of help or offer of assistance from any staff. It was only by the kind help shown by other holidaymakers that we got through the emergency and managed to get ourselves and luggage away from that hell hole. I hope the Irish boys and our Scots friends read this so I can thank them.
To sum up before a disaster dreadful after one you are on your own don't expect help from this place. Final word funny how our new hotel not far away was spotless and the water was perfect also the staff were helpful and really lovely people.

Oct 2007, Mr P Brannan

Overall rating 1 is far too many. This place is a disgrace - why anyone would want to class this as a holiday destination is beyond me.
The whole place was absolutely disgusting. Dirt on top of dirt. The rep was rubbish and the reason he gave us for the state of the place was that Thomson’s are taking it over next year!
Avoid this place like the plague; you'd be better sleeping rough.
