I wish I had found this site and read the review written by someone who had worked for Ski Total. Then I wouldn’t have booked this trip.
Meribel itself is great for a ski holiday. Full access to the 3 valleys, good bars, good restaurants and well laid out. But never go with Ski Total. Where do I start?
I stayed in Chalet Annie with 2 friends. The rooms upstairs were more equipped for children. But this is only due to the size of them and the beds. I would never actually want my children to stay there. They were small with little to no storage really. The beds were rock hard and you couldn’t sleep properly no matter how many drinks you had that night.
The shower was so tight that if your waist is more than 32 inches you were going to struggle to even get in to it. When you did get into it, it was so small that you kept knocking the control for hot and cold and would regularly scald yourself.
The food was average, which was mainly down to the chalet girl not having sufficient training. The chalet girl was polite and pleasant, but just didn’t have the skills and equipment to do the job.
The chalet was not in my opinion a 3 or 4 star. Having stayed recently in a 2 star chalet hotel in Aple D'Huez I would say that Chalet Annie is a 2 star and possibly less.
I’m not going to go into too much detail about the fact that the smoke alarms never worked as they had no batteries in them and we nearly died one night when the fire malfunctioned.
Over priced, over sold etc, the list goes on..............
Do not book your holiday with this ski company and remember to ask your travel agent who the holiday is with at time of booking because they don’t tell you automatically.

I was interested to read Miss Wilmot's review especially with regard to the chalet host. During the winter season 04-05 I was the chalet host for Total Ski in Chalets Annie and Elise.
It looks like Total Ski have not improved at all. We had exactly the same complaints, though we did have crockery for everyone... but we did have to buy it the week before our first guests!
I could rant on and on about the lack of professionalism from Total, but suffice to say I would not recommend them to anyone. EVER. They are overpriced and significantly overrate their chalets. They cannot organise laundry and food supplies and rely wholly on the chalet hosts to compensate for the company's (many) short-comings. To be frank, it baffles me as to why they are still in business!
Annie and Elise are well located but are small - I used to have to ask the guests to move their chairs so I could get food out of the oven!! Furnishings were very worn and they are nowhere near as attractive as the pictures portray. The boot room is a cupboard, the sauna struggles to get warm (let alone hot), the kitchen is a kitchenette, there's very little cupboard space in the bedrooms and the beds got complaints from nearly all the guests I had.
In addition, we had another Total Ski employee living in the chalet with the guests - you can only imagine how well that was received!!
Chalets Annie and Elise are identical and certainly don't rank as 4-star (unless your ratings are out of 20 stars).
I word of advice to anyone reading this. DON'T BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY WITH TOTAL, GO FIND A HOLIDAY ELSEWHERE. ANYWHERE. Oh, and be aware that Total sell their holidays through Iglu Ski, Ski Line and other agencies - check who the operator is before buying!!
You have been warned.
Ian.

I chose to return to Meribel as I had had a fantastic holiday there two years ago.
When I booked Chalet Annie, I was led to believe it was a 4 star chalet and when I arrived, I was horrified by the small size, the state of the chalet girl and the fact that the room was not cleaned yet.
Only one person at a time could stand up in the bedroom, if you are over a size ten, do not attempt to get in and out of the shower as you won't fit and be prepared for all your clothes to smell of cooking as the kitchen is open plan with the rest of the chalet.
The food itself was passable when it arrived (usually around 9pm!) apart from the cakes which were inedible.
There were only two occasions when there was any vegetable accompaniment with our dinner and this was after complaining about it. Quantity of food was not good. Also there was not enough crockery, so six people had to share five cups and five knives.
As the chalet girl did not have any washing up liquid, this proved quite tricky.
Our spare pillows had no covers on and they were very badly soiled, we requested some others, but they never arrived. Also there were no clean towels.
We complained to our rep on day three but things did not improve.
I felt most sorry for the chalet girl, who had to cope with this week in, week out. She clearly needed more training and resources, and then maybe she wouldn't have run out of milk at breakfast and would have had some washing up liquid.
In short, very very small, poor service and definitely not 4*! Meribel was its same old expensive self!

I was interested to read the reviews of Chalet Annie and Elise before my recent trip to Meribel (and after I had booked), so you can imagine what I was expecting! However I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Company that I had booked the chalets through, Flexible Breaks, have taken over from Ski Total and put a new lease of life back into what must have been a very tired chalet. I found Chalet Annie (I believe Chalet Elise is identical), to be charming and cosy and well described on the company's web site. The chalet hosts were well trained, excellent cooks and also very well presented, making us a wholesome breakfast, tasty cakes and a lovely 3 course dinner each day. I did not eat out even once during my 10 night stay, as the food at the chalet was good, varied and filling. The chalet hosts even cooked special meals for my 10 year old vegetarian daughter!
I also read the comments about the small rooms, and hoped that they were referring to the bunk room which I had booked for my daughter and not the other rooms. That proved to be the case and yes it is quite small, but it does have it's own shower and is sold at a large discount, so we got what we paid for there and so I have no complaints. I had booked the Jacuzzi suite for myself and loved the huge Jacuzzi-bath to wallow in after a day on the slopes. I even had my own balcony!
As for the sauna, the chalet host explained to me that it took 20 minutes to warm up (and kindly used to get it ready and warmed for me when I got back from the slopes each day). A very pleasant bonus after a hard day on the magnificent slopes of the 3 Valleys.
Indeed I have no complaints at all and felt compelled to write in to compensate for the harsh comments from previous unfortunate guests who have travelled to these chalets in previous seasons when they were owned by someone else. I liked it so much I have already booked the whole chalet again for my 50th birthday party next season.
Kind Regards
Dr Jonny
