Grand Smeraldo Beach Hotel

We are just back from a weeks stay at this hotel from 5th May - 12th 2007 and felt that it was important to let others know of our experience there. 1st of all the tourist season starts round about June and travelling before means that the area is just starting to crank up so therefore there is not much happening. There were no buses AT ALL and taxis were scarce although the hotel could call and book one if we so wished. The Grand Hotel Smeraldo Beach is a beautiful resort. However, there is absolutely nothing to do outside of the resort. Transportations is scarce; unless your are wiling to pay the hefty fee for car rental. Even when we did find a bus that would take us to Porto Cervo (the celebrity hub) there wasn't much to do there either. This is the first hotel that looked like it might live up to its 4 star rating and expensive rates. The lobby and bar are very nice but the rooms again are quite basic and not the most luxurious. But outside the hotel is definitely 4 star. The pool area's are beautifully done with about 6 pools dotted around the garden area so you are never sitting with loads of people. We've just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel Smeraldo Beach and it was fantastic! The reception staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Check in was quick and easy after which we were shown to our room promptly. The rooms are basic, but they are a reasonable size, they're clean, and they contain everything you need to live comfortably. The Hotel is typically Sardinian/Italian, although some of the interior decor is not to my taste you can not help but appreciate how beautiful and well looked after this hotel actually is. The photographs that we saw on the internet did not do the hotel justice and I would definately recommend anyone to stay here as it really was a superb hotel. We spent 10 days in this hotel and had a lovely time. The hotel was comfortable, the staff friendly, the food fabulous. It is right on the beach and has several swimming pools too (although the water in the pools was freezing!). It is a 5 minute walk to other shops and restaurants too. A great base to explore the area. It is well worth going half board - for 15 euros each you get a lovely four course dinner! From the airport we caught a Sunlines bus to Baia Sardinia. The cabs cost 60 euros and the bus was 5 euros each but it took 1 hour.

I stayed for 3 days this past sept and I was pleasently surprised. The rooms were comfortable, views were spectacular. If you are looking to go to porto chervo and see the rest of costa smerelda this hotel is a great base for you. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, for its value and proximity to everything, beach, shopping and great food. It is deffinalty worth taking a ride to porto rotonda if you choose to stay here.

We stayed 5 nights half board in Grand Hotel Smeraldo Beach in mid September and I have to say it was definitely better than I expected. We booked full sea view room, worth the supplement but would ask to be located higher up as our room was on the same level as the main pool so no privacy during the day. Room was spacious and clean, with a walk in wardrobe! I would prefer a tiled floor instead of the carpet which is a bit dated and faded. I have just returned from Smeraldo Beach hotel, we had a very pleasant 10 day holiday, I travelled with my husband, cousin and her husband our ages are between 48-53. The hotel is very well laid out and the design of the swimming pools made the hotel. I would say the food is only adequate, we had 3 nights half board (which was enough) and 7 nights BB. The hotel charged 15 euros per person per night for dinner and you get what you pay for, however the lunch at the beach bar was very nice. We found one excellent fish... more

We have just returned from a week at the Smeraldo Beach in Baia Sardinia and we had a lovely time. The hotel is well maintained and well decorated in muted Sardinian colours. There is a picturesque private beach with deck chairs and parasols and several swimming pools all surrounded by sunbeds and parasols. There is the main pool right beside the hotel and then either side of this down some steps and windy paths are several circular pools (some whirlpools) stepped on different levels and joined together by waterfalls.
