Roc Lago Park Hotel Reviews

Submitted By: portuguesetouristWhen we arrived at the Roc Lago Park and looked for the reception desk the desorganisation was just in front of our eyes, they didn't had our booking confirmation, we had a discount for the half board and they tried to make us pay the all price, the staff was unpolite and all of it was like a real joke.
They gave us a room that was not clean, dirty, smelly, full of ants (BEWARE - The photos on the website are fake - the hotel is 1/10 that it appear to be) it was a very small room, the worst i've been in all my life and an experience not to repeat.
After looking for the crap that the room was and be sure the bad choice that we've done we moved to the buffet to eat our dinner and the food was too bad to be true (some guest had to serve himself with their own hands) the kettle was dirty and the restaurant looked like the room (a crap).
After we came from a walk and go to the room to have some sleep we verified that the cheats and pillow's suposed to make our bed were smelly (they haven't been cleaned) and the couch was wet (looked like oil)...
We move to the reception desk to ask to change room and to tell what's happening the guy was not kind and didn's wanted us to change room...
We had to call the police and with their help and after looking for 6 rooms to change too (all of them with problems - used and not cleaned, smelly, wet floor, sewer smell, ants) they gave us a room that was clean and we stayed in there from 4 am to 8 am sleeping in our beach towels because the rooms were all with lack of cleaning and with no confort.
after 8 am we came to the reception desk to speak with the director to ask for the refund or change hotel, and they moved us to Roc Oasis Park (a good hotel with all the conditions) the director was not kind, looked like a coconut beach seller).
DO NOT GO TO ROC LAGO PARK - IT'S A REAL SH.......

Submitted By: Mr Mal RFrom the moment we arrived the air conditioning (or should I say lack of it)was a constant thorn in our side. I reported the Aircon as not functioning and someone came straight away but couldn’t fix it so I went back to the reception where I was told it would take a couple of days to get a technician but as compensation we could have 2 free evening meals in the restaurant but anyone who has eaten there will tell you the food is horrendous. Eventually the aircon was repaired after 3 days and it lasted for 4 hours and when I complained again I was told we didn’t need aircon now as it was raining (well that’s alright then)? The people next door to us had an army of ants to keep them company as well. I find it amazing that a small number of people on this website think this hotel is satisfactory sadly they obviously know no better.
The only good thing I can say about this hotel was the marina view but be warned! While you are sat on your scruffy, cracked white/brown patio furniture you have the World and his Grandma walking past your apartment staring in, playing football. Never Again!!!!
The Resort is probably the best on the island with a lovely beach, the marina looks super all lit up at night.
Best Food is the Café Nu Port – super set meals
Best bar (and entertainment) is the Shamrock –good staff and a guy called Joe plays the guitar and sings (really good)
Worst entertainment was the Paradise Club where we went to supposedly see the Blues Brothers show – it turned out to be the Bingo Caller and his mate and they were miming it was embarrassing.

Submitted By: Mr J E WALKEROverall i would not recommend the apartments, but i cannot fault Cala n Bosch the resort is perfect. There are lots of good restaurants,Fontana, il Pato,Pescado to name but a few all with friendly staff,Chaplins in particular is a very good place for a few beers the staff are brill especially patient with children.
I would definitely return to Cala n Bosch but i will be staying elsewhere, the resort gets 10,the apartments 2.

Submitted By: Mrs A M CROXFORDHaving been before, I was very disappointed, the table and chairs outside where filthy, tried to clean them but to no avail, the so called"satellite tv" consisted of the Travel Channel and 4 spanish channels, towards the end of the week we had an incessant humm on it too, the cutlery (what there was of it) was rusting, we weren't cooking, but had we been, we could not have used the microwave as the glass dish inside did not fit and our fridge was actually a freezer, it had no door on the freezer compartment, so everything we put in the fridge froze, we did report this but don't know what good it will do, as we, along with others who have left a review before have reported about the cracked sunbeds, guess what, still cracked, even our rep agreed this was a health and safety issue.
The resort is great, can recommend La Marina, does a really nice set 3 course meal for 12.95 euro and the italian by the goody goody park, the tiramisu with amaretto toffee sauce is to die for, for breakfast La Fontana's is the best, a full works breakfast with juice and tea/coffee for 5.95 euro and a vege one for 4.85, it also does various other things.
Don Carlos bar is nice for a drink at the end of the evenning, he has some tables outside, the coffees are very good, it is under the Roc Lago.
Flight out was ok, we had an old airbus, quite cramped, we had the same on our return, planes last year much better, they had to brake very hard when we landed or we could have been staying in Punta Prima!, flight home very long, 3 hours, due to restrictions over France (that was what they said, could it have been to do with XL issue?), the last 45 mins into Birmingham was very turbulant.
Mum loved the island but not the Roc Lago, will me and hubby be going back, to Cala n Bosch yes, to the Roc Lago NO.

Submitted By: Mrs T NashThe Roc Lago apartments (both sites) are very close to all the resort amenities including the marina, beach, restaurants, bars, 2 supermarkets and shops. The resort was possibly the liveliest of all the other resorts we visited during our holiday but centred around the restaurants and 4-5 bars which all closed for midnight- 1am. No discos or loud music so ideal for families and couples who want to relax. Dined out most evenings in the restaurants in Cala n Bosch and sampled the fresh local fish on most occasions. Ate mostly at Mr Jaume’s (staff very friendly, food good and reasonable), Le Bahia and Café Belear, also went to restaurant Tropicana but sent the steak back because it was tough although the rest of the meal was OK. Prices for main courses averaged from 9 euros for chicken to 18 euros for steak. The apartments are very near to the water park (5 minute walk), which cost 17 euro entry for adults and 5 euros each for a sunbed. The children in our party enjoyed the water park. Also go-carts next to the water park which were 18 euros each for 10 minutes. Cala n Bosch is within easy walking distance to the next resort of Son Xoriguer (east). We also walked to Cala Blanca (north) over the coastal path, which took 2 hours each way. A nice walk for those who like walking but path very rugged, so need good shoes.
Hired a mini-bus for 5 days (6 people in our party) for 550 euros (got 50 euro discount) but you may wish to book car hire in advance if going to Menorca in the last 2-3 weeks of August as the Spanish tend to holiday there then and we found it difficult to hire a vehicle due to demand. Easy to drive on the island as only 2 main roads, well signed posted with no crazy drivers and few mopeds. It takes approx 1-1 ½ hours to drive from the east to the west of the island. Whilst we had the mini-bus we drove to Mount Toro, which provides a nice view of most of the island and has a pretty church and coffee shop. From there we drove to Fornells, which is another nice resort. Went to Fornells again one evening for a meal at El Pescador, which I would recommend. The food was very nice and reasonably priced (90 euros for 3 courses for 3 people with a bottle of wine and a couple of drinks). On another evening caught the bus to Ciutadella where we had a meal in one of the restaurants along the marina, Es Forat. A nice meal but overpriced (90 euros for 1 starter, 3 main courses, a bottle of wine and 2 drinks). Also drove and visited Son Bou which had a large beach and the sea very shallow but very busy, the resort centre small but with reasonable choice of bars and restaurants; visited Cala Galdana which is very picturesque with a large beach but the resort very small with only a couple of bars and restaurants; visited Binibeca which is another picturesque small resort with a nice beach and a couple of restaurants; visited Mahon (the capital) which had a large port and good shopping centre with some interesting buildings and churches to see.
We enjoyed our holiday and would go back to Cala n Bosch. Would stay at the Roc Lago Park again as only used it as a base and did not really use the facilities there on many occasions, as no very young children in our party and preferred to visit others places (not pool and beach people). Roc Lago Park basic but adequate but location very good for the amenities in Cala n Bosch.

Submitted By: Mr C Parkerbedroom door someone had punched through and it had been crudely repaired, mould on walls, dirty bathroom need i go on. rep replaced kettle with an electric one and replaced cutlery but i wasnt expecting him to move heaven and earth. if you go to this place its work complaining about the kettle as the electric one is a life saver.
the complex inself was clean and the pool was nice problem was though that most of the sun beds where broken so really hard to find a decnt one if at all
good kids entertainment (really hand it to the animation guys they never seemed to have a day off and they where full of energy) evening entetainment every night but don't expect anything special. drinks at the hotel bar very expensive so worth going out for drinks at half the price.
chaplins is a lovely resturant with english waiters and very good value.
beach was absolutely georgeous if you can get one i recomend going for a swim with a divers mask and see all the fish close up
would go to calan bosh again but i would pick a different hotel we did 2 other excursions which where the boat trip around the island which was very good and the sonti horses which if you are an animal lover avoid like the plague as the horses seemed to be treated the same way the spanish treat all animals hmmm
water slide park is excellent

Submitted By: Mrs K CollierHad a little trouble with the maids ie had to ask for them to come when they were supposed to come every other day to change the towels etc but once you asked at reception they came straight away.
Pre booked our shuttle from the airport with shuttles direct via the net at a cost of £90 thoroughly reliable and recommended. The apartments are right in the centre of Cala N Bosch and the beach a short walk. All the restaurants surrounding the harbour were all a much of a much, La Marina we found was a particularly nice one with good food and staff (although a little bit more pricey).
Thoroughly recommend it and good value for money.

Submitted By: Mr S KilbaneWhen we again got her attention she advised due to an oversight they had overbooked and could not allocate the required rooms for us.
We had booked 1 two bed and two 1 bed apartment’s in total and had specified we needed to be close as we were travelling with our young son and his great grand mother. The receptionist simply nodded her head and gave my in-laws a key and showed them a map to there room. She turned to me and said have you got a car?? I replied no she said I will show you.
We had to cross a road and walk a long way in the dark through some two storey buildings my son was rather frightened by this but we assured him it would be fine we arrived at our room which was as mentioned pitch black and we had to climb two flights of tiled and slippy stairs to a room which was fine in my mind my wife however was none to impressed by the distance between us and the rest of the group I said we will sort it in the morning.
In the morning we spoke to the Manager (very dissmisant individual) who agreed we could share 1 more two bed apartment room 3115 with a marina view and very close to the pool.
Ideal apart from the incredible foul smell that was coming from the bathroom as the rest of the complex was fully booked I suspect this was the reason it was suddenly available, I mentioned the smell to dismissive manager who said ok Half Board free for the week I said ok what about the foul smell he said he could do nothing.
It’s not all bad the resort is beautiful and as mentioned the locals are very friendly and approachable La Fontana was our favourite place to have a relaxed meal in the resort as we could eat and watch our four year old at the same time in the knowledge he was perfectly safe.
Don’t bother with HB at the Roc Lago the food is abysmal and I would not have been at all happy if I was paying for this and we only had 1 breakfast and 1 evening meal out of the 7 days we stayed there.
We did also enjoy the food at the steakhouse and the Aquarium as well.
The Saturday market in citudella is not worth the travel but the buildings and the renovation of the church there are defiantly worth the trouble, bus fare is only 1.50 euro each way we travelled in a taxi at 11.60 worth it as the bus gets very busy indeed.
All of the problems experienced at the Roc Lago have in no way diminished our love of the location i.e. the marina setting we are looking to go again next year but will look into a villa next time.

Submitted By: Mr B FeldmannThe apartment complex itself is basic though quite comfortable and most importantly we thought it was kept very clean inside and out and was in a fantastic location, hence the 8/10. Roc Lago lies adjacent to the harbour above restaurants and bars and shopping, 5 minute walk to Cala en Bosch beach and minutes to buses and hire car/scooter companies.
The reception staff speak good English and are very helpful and gladly offer advice about what/where/when/how/who. A courtesy room was also available free of charge on the day we checked out where we showered and cleaned up before leaving.
Rooms are cleaned, rubbish removed and towels are changed every 2 days, bed linen was changed more frequently than they advised (once a week) however that was probably because it wasn’t very busy.
The kitchens have stove-tops, microwave and assorted kitchen utensils, pots, pans and crockery; it’s enough to prepare most food you might want.
Couples and those wanting a quiet holiday be advised, this is very much a family and kids resort. The pool and surrounding pool area is crammed full of kids and parents and music and entertainment goes from about 10am to 10pm every night except Sunday.
This was not a busy time so I can only imagine this doubling pretty shortly.
We did not eat at the resort nor did we use the pool. Internet access is offered at reception at 1 euro per 10 minutes, you will get much cheaper internet access at Chaplins or the Britannia, two English bars closer to the Cala en Bosch beach.
We ate out for almost every meal. Most are offering the same fare at similar prices and really most of it is what you will get anywhere else you may have holidayed. Being a fishing village, a few good seafood restaurants that stood out were La Marina and Aquarium. I have to say, as good as the seafood paella was, and it’s not very good value at all at around 40 Euros for 2 and consists largely of rice and not enough seafood.
La Fontana is good for food all round, staff are good and it is in a good location. Cafe Balear and most of the restaurants past flamingo and before the English bars are very good. Avoid the Chinese restaurants and the English bars unless you want to feel like you haven’t actually gone on holiday.
If you are going to hire a scooter we can recommend pepe's bikes, it will cost 34 Euros for 24 hours rent and the owner was friendly.
Cala en Bosch is a good beach but we spent most of our time at Son Xoriguer where it’s a bit quieter and the sea was calmer almost every day there, it’s only 5 minutes around the corner.
By scooter, we visited Macarella, Macarelleta, and Cala en Turquetta beaches; they are all unbelievable places. We stopped in at Cala Blanca which wasn’t that good compared to Cala en Bosch. The city of Ciutadella is not much to get excited about but has some nice buildings and a nice harbour area to eat and drink.
The only negative thing about staying at the resort for us was the distance from the airport by bus. On the way, it took around an hour and a half, and it was about an hour on the way back. This was not a problem though. There are resorts closer to the airport that we will consider visiting on our next trip to Menorca.
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and would recommend Roc Lago Park and Cala en Bosch to couples and families looking for a relaxing beach holiday. We can also highly recommend the local Mahon Xoriguer gin, which we enjoyed and have brought home with us!

Submitted By: Miss Jane PhillipsThe hotel and its grounds were clean and tidy, and maintained very well.
The rooms were large enough and the kitchen was ample for what you need.
The couple we travelled with though had to change their apartment as the rooms were still a little damp from the winter season.
The resort is very nice with a lovely harbour, and the apartments are situated overlooking the harbour which is perfect for little legs!
The best restaurant we found, which we went to four nights out of seven was `La Marina`. We had the set menu of 11.50 Euro, the food was superb, and the staff were extremely child friendly and could not do enough for us.
I would recommend this resort and apartments.

Submitted By: Mrs D WatsonOur apartment looked right out onto the Harbour which was lovely and all your bars, pubs and restaurants surrounded the harbour which was very convenient!
One place in particular which we eat at as La Fontana just opposite the Steak House which was fantastic, the food was beautiful, the customer service was excellent, and the waiters were fantastic with my 17 month old son.
I would recommend Cala n Bosch and Roc Lago Park to anyone.
The only down side was the transfer time of 1 hour 30 minutes but when you get there you will see it is worth it.
