I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel! I am a teenager and went with my parents. We have never visited this part of Spain so we were open as to what to expect. I didn't feel as though the Thompson picture in the brochure showed the true beauty of the hotel as I was... more

We've stayed in Isla Canela for about four years running but not at this hotel, so we decided to have a change. From the outside the hotel looks very smart and the reception area is actually quite nice. We were given a downstairs room which was very dark and quite smelly,... more

Now owned by Barcelo group of hotels, hence Barcelo Canela and not Riu Canela anymore. Excellent stay. Very quiet as almost end of season. Lovely beach just over road. Lots of development going on around as this is an upcoming resort. The marina at the other end of Isla... more

I have been to this hotel twice; The first year the hotel was excellent and the views from the balcony were brilliant. But this year the hotel had several buildings squashed next to it, this spoil to view tremendously although the food in the hotel still remained at a high... more

This hotel has much to recommend it. It has good accommodation with nice rooms that offer decent amenities, although perhaps could do with a face lift. The staff are helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. Moreover, the food is excellent particularly if you are a meat eater.... more

I stayed for 3 nights in the RIU Canela and I found the location ideal. The beach was just across the road and it felt like I had found a traditional part of Spain rather than the plastic versions found in the other Costas. My hotel room was clean and tidy but maybe just a... more

Pure relaxatioin
Another excellent Expedia booking. We went for a quiet relaxation and property search holiday. The hotel was excellent. Clean, quiet, food choice was superb. We went to 2 entertainment evenings, Spanish folk group and Flamenco and enjoyed both. The beach was just across the road with sunbeds available at €3 per day per bed. When the tide was out, you can walk along the sandbanks. When the tide is in the swimming was wonderful. Seaweed on beach appeared to be cleared during the week, but a minor point. We visited other beach... more
Not much outside the hotel
August 12th 2007 just returned from the hotel. The staff are very friendly and keen to please The rooms are a little on the small side but very clean. The food is varied although at certain times the restaurant can become very crowded and we often queued to get a seat. The towels were removed from reserved beds, which we thought was a good idea.however parasols were often taken if you left the bed as they were in short supply compared to the number of sun beds At night a part from the hotel entertainment very little to do... more
awful for teenagers!
Before we went to the isla canela resort i read that both the hotel and the area were a bit foreign and not full of Brits like where we had been before. Well when we got there we were in for a bit of a shock as on our first two days we didn't even see a another group of brits the hotel was just full of the spanish, but as the holiday went on we did gradually meet a few brits. At night there is a very limited amount you can do as there is not many bars out side the hotel and the entertain was poor to put it nicely. During the day... more
Wonderful hotel - more like 5 star
The hotel is lovely. Beautiful gardens., literally hundreds of white, red and pink roses around beautiful andalusian style fountains. A very romantic hotel. A drink on the terrace overlooking the fountains is wonderful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Very professional. The restaurant is a haven of style, sophistication, superb food, beautifully presented. Very relaxing. The entertainment in the evening is of a very high standard - I was pleasantly surprised. Quite important... more

Very Spanish resort, 50 minutes taxi transfer from Faro airport, quite small, although loads of building work going on, a couple of shops and a handfull of bars/restaurants, but the local town is only 5 minutes taxi ride away and has plenty of shops, bars, cafe's, parks, a free zoo, marina, golf course(not bad, with a bit of water on the first few/last few holes and only 42 euros green fee), whatever you want. The Hotel, room fine, very clean, the staff are excellent, food good. The road outside the front, that you have to cross to get... more
Bit too Spanish
Stayed at this hotel as part of a 4 hotel holiday all individually booked on the web. The other 3 were in the algarve. Firstly the carpark to the hotel is chargeable at around 8euro a day,but its safe to leave your car on the road so dont waste your money. This hotel looks like a enthusiastic sand castle maker designed it -- it looks rearly good. The staff are pleasant and try their best to speak English. Our room was a bit dull and the aircon wasn't working but clean, the bathroom was very green and the bidet was in the... more
Excellent Holiday
We stayed in the Barcelo Hotel in June 2007 and had a fantastic holiday. We stayed for 10 nights and had great weather, it was 26 in the shade, The hotel is 50 yards from the beach and can be accessed across the beach road. The beach is wide and very clean and great for seashell collecting if you have children. The hotel food was great, we stayed half-board and the choice at both breakfast and dinner was fantastic but avoid the 9.30pm slot at dinner when its the weekend as it gets very busy. As with most hotels you can purchse wine with... more
Lovely holiday
Just had 10 nights at this lovely hotel. A bit isolated at the moment until all the building work going on around is completed but no inconvenience as a result. Very quiet, due to time of year but weather was fantastic - 25/30 C and no rain. Food in the hotel is superb and we'll certainly go again.
A very good hotel
The hotel is well situated just across the road from a lovely long beach. In September, the road was very quiet even at the weekends; there were six or seven restaurants and bars nearby. Food in the hotel was good with large choice. We lunched at the beachside chirinquito- unconnected with the hotel as far as we know- it was Ok but no more. Limited bus service out of season so a car is almost essential unless you intend to chill out on the beach/by the pool. Nearby town of Ayamonte is a jewel. The rooms are spacious for this grade of... more
Loved the peace and quiet
We visited this hotel post refurbishment and were very impressed with both the location and the Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach was gorgeous and had a natural lagoon when the tide went out. Very peaceful but not boring and far from isolated. A local bus runs to the nearest small town of Ayamonte which is a very pretty town. We visited Seville and Gibraltar during our stay, both very interesting and differefnt excursions. Everything to recommend the Hotel and area, nothing negative at all, ideal for families,... more
