Refreshingly different
from brightonjulie
Rushpool Hall is a charmingly peculiar little gem, nestling on the edge of the North Yorks moors. It is, shall we say, an experience in eccentricity, yes - especially when the owner is in residence. If you are looking for a streamlined stay with 5 star opulence, this Hotel is not the one for you. But if you are looking for a hotel with a lot of character and the most beautiful views the area can offer, a warm and welcoming bar with roaring open fires, then you will not be disappointed.
Perfect Hotel for a Perfect Day
from xxamziexx
I stayed in Rushpool for my sisters wedding last august, i dont normally leave reviews on hotels but as people as said so many bad things about this hotel in previous reviews i felt i have to put my point across! Personally i couldn't fault rushpool the staff are really friendly and make you feel really comfortable and the food is delicious as it was a wedding we had a sit down meal during the day and a bbq on the evening. Our room overlooked the back of the hotel which i much prefered as the views are amazing you can see out to sea on a clear day. It was August and a lovely warm day so i cant comment on the temperature of the room, but those who complained about it went in April. I didnt have breakfast (too hungover lol) but everyone who ate breakfast said it was lovely. I loved Rushpool so much i have booked my wedding there for 2010 !
Worst hotel we have ever stayed in
from EnglandAnn
We stayed at this hotel for one night and it was the worst experience we have ever had in any hotel. We paid extra to stay in a four poster room but it was certainly not worth it. The room was cold and there was no hot water even after ringing reception about it. Water still cold the next morning. Bar area was in the entrance area to the hotel - freezing cold whenever anyone came into or out of the hotel. Drinks were expensive and staff sullen. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was terrible - staff were not really bothered even though we sent our dinner back. Replacement meal just as bad - veg cold & meat dry & tough. Breakfast the next day was tasteless and greasy - hot food was buffet style presented in large metal trays with lids but there was nowhere to put your plate down while you lifted the lid with one hand & tried to serve the food with the other - no staff around to help. Complained about these things whilst checking out but the manageress was unhelpful and rude. Would not accept that the food had been inedible and did not really care that we had not enjoyed our stay. Owner was not available to speak to. Overall it was a dreadful, overpriced and unenjoyable stay. Have read other bad reviews on sites which confirm that these things were not a one off. Would not stay here again & would never recommend this hotel.
I wouldn't bother, you'd be better off in a tent on the beach or in the woods

We stayed at this so called hotel for a family wedding. The service was so bad, my nana had gravy spilt on her from one of the young waitresses. The potatoes were really hard. The rooms, even though i must say that they do look lovely initially, but if you stay in your room for a while you will be cold and you will see that they do need a refurb. The bedding was OK, but smelt really foisty. The owner likes to sit at the bar all night long, talks alot of nonsense, but can be entertaining too. The staff like to talk amongst themselves, you feel as though you are interupting asking for a G&T. As though its too much trouble. And the price of the drinks are way too expensive. Please think twice before booking into this hotel, and if you need to get showered do so before leaving home!
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in, don't waste your money!

We were booked to stay at this hotel for 2 nights but left after only one. Upon arrival we waded our way through a wedding party to be 'greeted' by teenagers at what looked more like a ticket office than a reception desk. We checked in and went up to our room which was freezing and cramped. We went out for the afternoon and left the heater on full and when we returned after 3 hours it was still so cold we could not take our coats off. Were given a plug in heater by reception as they were not able to locate the theramostat control in the room. After refusing the offer of sitting in the midst of the wedding party/mehem for pre dinner drinks,we went to the restaurant which was our biggest mistake. The starters were unrecognisable from their menu discriptions and had obviously been cobbled together from leftover frozen odds and ends doused in salt so we sent them back. Our main courses weren't any better, with my well cooked lamb being blue at best and unedible, undercooked veg. My partner's accompanying rosti and plum were both burnt to a cinder so we sent both plates back again. When they returned the same rosti/plum arrived having had the burnt bits cut off them, what a joke! We didnt take dessert and instead asked for the manager. She informed us that they are aware their food isnt very good (?) and that they only provide a restaurant service to guests so they can tick a box on the AA form. We told her we would be leaving the next day and listed the catalogue of errors since our arrival. When we checked out they tried to charge us for our dinner (which we did not eat any of), we fought our case and paid the room rate only however all the staff were extremely rude, unprofessional, untrained and totally inadequate in both manner and service during the course of our complaint. We are following up this complaint but in the mean time would advise anyone to avoid this place like the plague, what an awful experience!
Loved our time at Rushpool Hall
from kiwieire
My husband and I stayed at Rushpool Hall for a weekend and loved every minute of it. Our room was in the main house and very large. The bath was lovely and deep. (had to laugh at the lace shower curtain). The room had a comfy 4 poster bed. Everything was clean. The surroundings are just wonderful and it was great seeing all the wildlife, squirrels, peacocks etc. All the staff were very friendly and let us book in early. We just rang them and asked if they had a room available and they said it wouldnt be ready for a few hours (this was about 8am) when we arrived about an hour later we were able to book into our room, which was great as we had come off an early flight. We enjoyed our breakfast and had no problems during our stay. Would go back for sure.
Terrible

Do not stay at Rushpool Hall Hotel especially if you have children!! They charge £15 to use a cot which is falling to bits and £20 for a childs overnight bed. We booked 6 months in advance because we wanted to make sure we had one of the nearest rooms to where the wedding was going on in order to sterlise baby bottles, warm bottles up and let the kids have a sleep during the day. We were told this wasn't a problem at all and we even phoned the hotel several times before our visit to make sure they still had our request noted down and was ensured they did and it was fine we were booked into a lovely room and that it was close to the wedding reception. We were in fact given a room as far away from the wedding reception as possible and right at the top of the hotel along with all the other families with babies. We couldn't use the room at all during the day as we had planned it was just too far away. Other bad points about the hotel rooms are that there are no power sockets to use apart from the one that the TV is plugged into, it takes forever to get hot water, the rooms are tiny, the four poster bed is tiny, the bedding and furniture is extremely old and the rooms are freezing!! The staff at the hotel are rude, unhelpful and don't care about customer service at all. They put black pudding on your plate for breakfast even though you have said you really don't want it. They have no idea when the owner will next appear so that you can talk to them about your problem. "The owner could appear tomorrow, next month or even next year" according to the reception staff. My advice? Book into the Premier Lodge instead a few miles away. Beds are 3 times the size as the beds at Rushpool, the breakfast is amazing and the rooms are lovely, clean and modern.
Loved every minute

My wife and I stayed at Rushpool Hall over the Easter weekend and what a mgical experience it was. We stayed in one of the bridal suites which was a huge room with four poster bed and it had spectacular sea views. During our stay we dined in the restaurant on 2 occasions and the food and service was excellent. I would not hesitate to reccomend this hotel to anyone and my wife and I will definitely stay there again.
I disagree!! Fantastic

I have to disagree with the above reviewer. I have dealt with Rushpool Hall on many occasions while booking my wedding there and have always found the staff very friendly and obliging. In fact, it was after a two night stay there that made me decide to book it for my reception. Additionally, I had several recommendations prior to this occasion. The food was perfect (we ate three meals there) and the rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. The hotel is also in a lovely location, making it a great place for a stay (or a wedding!) I encountered no problems here whatsoever. Completely 100% recommended!!
Never again...dreadful
from Bill-England
Dreadful dreadful hotel. We stayed over New Year and don't think there would be enough room to list all the terrible aspects of this hotel. Initially it seemed lovely to name just a a few of the 'disappointing' aspects: No hot water throughout the hotel & not even an apology offered . When we enquired we were told it would be back on in 10 minutes but not on until next day so were couldn't shower or wash for New Years Eve dinner. Meal itself inedible...so called 'fillet' steaks were stringy and tough but no alternative or even different meat was offered so we could only eat the vegetables. Next day shower in our room not working at all so we were unable to shower at all throughout our stay. When we mentioned this at reception we were asked to write in with these issues as there was no-one available to discuss this with. We did so but received a reply from the manager discrediting our comments and stating that no-one else had complained (even though we were at reception when 2 other parties complained). The letter from the manager also stated that the hotel staff ate the returned meat and thought it was delicious! NEVER NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL....TOTALLY DREADFUL.
