Western Isles Hotel Reviews
" This hotel does not merit even 1 star... "

This hotel does not merit even 1 star let alone 3. We were booked in for 6 nights, we only managed 3!
It was our honeymoon and although they upgraded us for free to one of their suites and gave us a complementary bottle of champagne, we were appalled by the service levels, standards and management of the hotel.
The suite was dirty, the bed linen and towels in the bathroom although changed for our stay were old and smelt musty. The carpet in the bathroom was dirty and mouldy around the edge of the shower cubical.
The evening meal was poor and the dining room where we ate breakfast was shabby and in urgent need of refurbishment and repair.
A leak in the ceiling near a window was being hidden by a curtain, the water was pouring into a champagne bucket balanced on a childs high chair!
The locals refer to the Western Isles Hotel as Faulty Towers! Our honeymoon was saved by The Tobermoray Hotel, its lovely owners and brilliant staff, right on the edge of the harbour and half the price of the Western Isles Hotel.

Hotel had a 3* RAC rating. There was no way it merited that, the room was shabby, and the carpet dirty, the bathroom was avocado so at least hadn't been updated for 25 years.
The window in my room didn't close properly, a member of staff came to fix it, when I complained the next day when it opened again they said it would be sorted, it wasn't as was my complaint about the hairdryer cable not being long enough to allow me to dry my hair in view of a mirror.
Coffee and tea ordered in the lounge came 20 minutes later and was cold. Breakfasts were poor, cold scrambled eggs are not appetizing. Dinner on the 31st started at 8 and finished 11.30. We had to return a dirty plate and a knife that was sticky with jam. I think this says it all!

Your last reviews are quite right ... the interior is screaming for attention - but every drop of care went into the care for us all (i note it was full for new year) by the new owners and by far has been the best time we have all had in years... and we travel!! Great food and deliciously hearty breakfasts have made up for every sad bed side table. I really maintain this is a hotel to watch and as we crunch our credit ridden country we should be proud of these wonderful individuals for taking on such a Victorian challenge. Advice: Give it a go ... Faulty Towers meets dignity ........
Activities: Loved the nature tour/safari booked on line - worth getting up early for - rather like Africa
Good for: Beach
