Santa Marina Resort & Villas

We badly needed a great holiday and booked this supposed 5 star resort early September 2005. We arrived after an 8 hour journey in the middle of the night. Instead of directing us straight to our room, a member of staff insisted on taking us on a guided tour of the resort(in the dark). After 10 minutes of being shown very shoddy facilities, we asked to be directed to our room. A disgrace! Compared to the Mykonos Grand (where we stayed for 4 nights on our honeymoon), the Santa Marina was much worse. When we arrived, the staff felt lazy & slow when they were showing us to our room. Not to mention that along with these ancient elevators, there were still steps to the room. It took a long time to get to our room and the layout of the hotel is not conducive to getting around easily without climbing a lot of stairs. I was tempted to check the TERRIBLE box on this review, because our last experience at Santa Marina was not only TERRIBLE, it was life threatening, but, I want to be fair about the total experience. SO.... I have to say that we loved the servers and the food and the view and the overall resort experience offered. BUT, when checking out at 5am for our WAY too early flight to Athens, we discovered that the automatic lighting system at the hotel had eliminated ALL lights in the stairways and steps down... and you REALLY have to be in GOOD... more

We just recently finished our LuxuryLink vacation in Greece (September 2-7), where we stayed at Santa Marina in Mykonos. We had the best time and we were so happy with our choice. Our first contact with the hotel was Christina in Reservations (Also an American), she was so helpful in providing all necessary information about the island, what to see, and the situation with the taxi's which we found to be a big plus as we then arranged for a rental car. I love this hotel .... despite the high season the staff were friendly, the service excellent and the rooms had a breathtaking view of the agean blue sea ... I would highly recommend it to all....

My girlfriend and I stayed at this luxury hotel (thinking of not using those words together in this case given a luxury hotel offers service and is clean) which belongs to the Starwood Luxury Hotels (probably belongs more in the Holliday In collection...). It is extremely unfortunate that a hotel with such a gorgeous view and location would have to have the absolutely most rude and inefficient front desk and management staff. My husband and I stayed at the Santa Marina for 5 nights in August, and our friends joined with two other rooms... none of us can understand why Starwood still claims this as a part of its Luxury Collection. We are gold Starwood members and have stayed at all of the other Luxury properties in Greece, and most of the ones in Europe, and experienced the most wonderful... more

The hotel is gorgeous but the staff is very lukewarm. We had grapes in our fruit basket which had fungus on it. The rooms are OK, not for the price. We went on points so it was worth it. You are quite far from the town so good luck getting cabs at night. We waited over an hour to get a taxi to get us back home. The hotel has limited shuttle service to the town so not helpful when coming home after 8pm.

I just arrive from this Hotel, and I have to complain about the service, we also took 1 hour to do the ckeck in, and during the 4 nights we were there we always had problems with the service, during breakfast the service was terrible , they didn't clean the tables or provide the coffee. This is a 5 stars place, with a 3 or 2 stars service. Rooms are very nice with sea view, there are a lot of pools, but you don't need it due the the good private beach. Nice rooms, good beach, good, albeit overpriced, food. Problem is the front desk who seem to go out of their way to make life rough for the guests. Case in point is Christina at the front desk. We asked her if she could reserve us seats on the fast ferry out of Mykonos the following day. She said all the ferries were booked. As this was a weekday in June we were surprised.
