Helka Hotel Reviews
" Why follow the crowd. Friendly,... "
Submitted By: Miss L Law
Why follow the crowd. Friendly, beautiful and not as expensive as they would have you believe, Helsinki is the place to go. The Helka hotel is basic, but clean, central and has everything you need - the breakfast is enough to see you through the day. Helsinki is vibrant and exciting. The nightlife has to be seen to be believed, and yes the Finns can drink.

Public transport is cheap and readily available, about 3.70 euros for a day pass, with two tram routes providing a scenic tour of the centre. The pass also allows ferry passage to Suomelinna, one of the many islands around the city, which provides a peaceful escape for a day, the harbour market specialises in local products and souvenirs, keep an eye out for the designer silver jewellery - this is a must. There are also ferry and helicopter connections to Estonia and St Petersburg for other excursions.

If you are into architecture, take a city bus tour to acquaint yourself to the layout and then take the time to walk around and enjoy the stunning buildings in the city, including the rock cathedral (yes it was carved into the rock) and the Orthodox Cathedral. Or just head up the tower at Torsini and enjoy the view. Get there before everyone else discovers it.

The hotel is fairly basic, but has everything you need. The breakfast was very good with a large selection of hot and cold food. One evening I used the restaurant and the food was very good.
The hotel has a Sauna which is open from 6-8 am for men and 8-10 am for women. The is also a bigger sauna/jacuzzi room for private bookings for larger groups. The party I was in used this it was very pleasent.
Overall I would say this is a comfortable hotel well worth staying in, although if you are looking for 5* luxury then you will probably want to stay somewhere else (but it will be more expensive!)
