Cliff Side Suites

We stayed at the Cliffside Suites for 4 nights during our Honeymoon in mid-September 2006. The only things that we didn't like were: the fridge had defrosted and made a puddle on our kitchen floor (the staff took care of this), the rooms are a bit dark (but with a view like this, you don't stay in your room!) and all of the stairs took a bit of getting used to (by the end of our stay, it was no problem- plus all hotels with a Caldera view have stairs) The pool was small and very cold - refreshing though after a hot day of... more

We stayed here after leaving the Belevedere which smelled like raw sewage. The rooms are nice and the view is to die for. The breakfast is excellent. The pool is tiny and is olnly for plunging.

WE arrived at the Grotto Villas after hiring a car on arrival in the Port. This place is INCREDIBLY hard to find and no one can give you directions aqequately...tip #1 - get a transfer! Then when we finally found the stairway leading to the hotel we were thrown off the scent as the hotel has changed names. Tip #2 it is now called Cliffside!!!!!!!!!!!! Then when we arrived we had changed our booking from 1xtriple to 1xdouble, to 2 x triple this had not been catered for and we were offered a room that sleeps 6....we declined... more

A wonderful experience - that's the only way to describe our time in Firostefani this month where we stayed for a week in a studio with magnificent caldera views at Grotto Villas(now called Cliff Side Suites, by the way). Very clean room and a quite(by Greek standards!!)luxurious bathroom. Very good breakfast offering(hot and cold)in a buffet style served by the pool. We stayed in a suite. Moderate sized bedroon, very small living room, compact bathroom. The deck was equipped with 2 loungers, an umbrella table & 2 chairs. The view of the volcano was amazing. The breakfast was great. The location made it easy to walk everywhere. Lots of restaurants & shops nearby.

We too were one of the first clients of the season staying at this hotel and were very impressed. The view from our balcony was spectacular and we spent many mornings sitting on our balcony eating breakfast taking the views in (and drinking wine at sunset - what a treat!). As we were the only guests at the hotel when we booked in, breakfast was brought to our rooms each morning - we just had to ring when we wanted it brought up. I've just come back from a week long stay at Grotto Villas Santorini and have never had such a fantastic holiday! The Villas themselves are situated about 15 mins walk from the capitol Thira - although because of the amazing, dramatic views it often took much longer than this. The walk is pleasant as there are no cars, but don't bother taking heels (as i stupidly did!) as all the streets are cobbled and getting back up that hill can be a struggle! Grotto Villas had a gorgeous view. The rooms were OK. They varied a great deal. We were part of a group of 8 couples. We had a beautiful room, others were average and two couples sharing an apartment were in what I would call a dungeon with only one of the two bathrooms working. To enter you go down about 25 steps, then our room was up about 25 steps and the breakfast was served down about 80 steps near the unheated pool. Be in shape when you get there or you will be in shape when you leave! All rooms had nice patio areas.

The Grotto Villas accommodation doesn't feel like a hotel. It's kind of magical being in a "cave", although the spacious and airy room I had certainly didn't feel like a cave! With a combined dining room and lounge area , separate bedroom, bathroom and useful kitchen, it had the feel of an apartment. Then there was the amazing private deck area with outdoor table and chairs as well as sun loungers and umbrella. Plenty of room to swing a cat! We ended our month long Italy/Greece vacation at the Grotto Villas in Firostefani - Wow! What a fantastic view. We found it hard to leave our huge terrace. On two of our four nights we ordered in food from the great little Italian restaurant (Il Cantuccia - at the base of the windmill, which is the enterance to the hotel), just so we could watch the fabulous sunset from our deck.
