Best hotel in cornwall by far
I think this hotel is a secret gem in the heart of cornwall. I have just returned from taking my wife there for a relaxing weekend and didnt want to come home. Its nice to find a honest place that hasnt tried to conform with the rest of the world by painting everything magnolia. Breakfast in bed and lobster for tea, with a relaxing jacusi in between what more could you ask for. We got a upgrade to a garden suite with no extra charge, when i asked reception why they simply said that they had one available (bonus). Service a1 as was all staff. I recommend a day trip to penzance as its a very nice day out and picturesque. Looking forward to my birthday when i have a excuse to return to what i concider to be the best hotel in cornwall.
Check Your Account
Fantastic food, great service, but accounting is not the strongest attribute of the reception staff. Always check the account carefully to ensure accuracy - got a strong impression that there could be some mishandling of monies.
30th celebrations
My husband arranged for us to stay at the Penventon Hotel for my birthday this year for a week. The customer service was impeccable. All the staff were very helpful and made our stay a special one. I unfortunately took ill on our last night. The hotel staff were most caring, arranged an appointment with the dcotor and allowed us to book the room for an extra night as I was not fit to travel back. The hotel has a very professional yet family feel and I would definately stay there again.
Terribe place - not 3*
We stayed there at the beginning of May 2007. After reading the description of the3 hotel and seeing the photos, we thought this would be a fantastic place to stay! What a disappoinment when we got there. The hotel is old and need a serious refurbishment plan. The reception room is an accumulation of objects and old furniture which just makes the place too crowdy! We stayed in a double bedroom on the 1st floor - which was just horrible. Although it was Ok space wise, nothing in that room must have been younger than 100 years old. The furniture is so old and dated - which makes you just want to get out of the room. The bed is as old as the environment and so uncomfortable. The bathroom (although quite spacious) also looks dated. When we arrived in there, there were dirty towels (full of make up and some blood) - which we asked to get changed. The lady came and picked up only the 2 dirty towels without offering any replacement. So only when we asked for new ones instead - we managed to get any. We had food in the restaurant which was ok and not bad overall. The service was also fine so no problem on that side. Then what a night!! You can hear every single noise from the other bedrooms or people walking in the corridor. You could even hear people in the toilets - which is not very pleasant!! A smoke smell was coming into the room - which we figured out was from the bar on the same floor. Well - overall - a sleepless night in a run down place and this was not cheap!! Worse value for money! It was so bad that we ended up checking out a day earlier. credit to the staff at the reception (with whom we shared our feedback) and offered an upgrade..... but we preferred just checking out. Not sure if we just had a bad bedroom and the upgrade would have been a pleasant surprise.... however we are happy we will never find out
Worst Night's Sleep Ever.
Stayed at the Penventon as it was one of the only hotels I could find with accommodation on Good Friday. I have stayed in many many hotels of varying standards but this may just be a contender for the worst night's sleep ever. Admittedly I only stayed in a standard double but I may as well have been sleeping on the floor in the corridor. The bed was very uncomfortable and had a strange combination of thin sheets and coverings which were absolutely freezing. I was woken repeatedly through the night by the comings and goings of guests, then by someone apparently unblocking the bath with a giant plunger possibly in the room next door, possibly five rooms away, then by the cleaner rattling her plastic buckets somewhere in the hotel at about 6am. By 7am I was up and ready to leave. Stopping only to sample the breakfast I wished I hadn't bothered as I don't really like UHT on my Alpen and found the do-it-yourself toaster stuck to one setting only - the burnt toast setting. I gave up on the sll raw-grilled tomatoes and bacon and headed off never to return. On a positive note the staff that I did encounter - reception and restaurant - were very friendly and efficient but it is just another of those hotels in GB that I have found to be so disappointing.
Extremely surprised
We stayed here for New Year and although we live in Cornwall and know the hotel we have never stayed here before. The service was excellent, friendly and catered for your every whim. The food is superb, you cannot fault the standard. Very surprised this is only a 3 star hotel. The only thing I would fault is decor mostly the carpets need updating in the lounge and hallways but the bedrooms are very up to date and so is the restaurant. Book with confidence.
What A Great Stay
Since visiting the Penventon last it has only got better. The same excellent food and fantastic service but now the rooms are better. If you get a chance try on of the Celebration Four Poster Rooms - the biggest four posters ever and beautifully decorated. It really is worth a visit - especially if you just want to relax and eat and drink.
Wonderful escapism.
The Penventon Hotel is a little Gem. I was taken there for a weekend getaway from London as a BDay present. The hotel is beautiful. The staff very efficient and freindly. The pool and spa area very relaxing. The main cocktail bar is the perfect place to unwind after an afternoon on the beach. We stayed in one of the new garden suites which were so cheaply priced we thought theyd given us the wrong room and upgraded us by accident.I loved the place and would reccomend it for any occasion. A real little hidden gem.
Excellent food and pool, but small room
I've stayed here a number of times and found a very consistent standard. Polite and efficient staff and a swimming pool which is reasonably sized compared with some hotels. Excellent food at dinner - one of the best steaks I have eaten for some time - usually accompanied by a splendid pianist playing. Breakfasts are also usually good and seem to be cooked to order. The rooms are extremely variable. The newest garden suites are spacious, but have thin walls through which virtually everything going on in adjoining rooms can be heard. Even worse, the ones on the ground floor have patio style doors, which cannot be left open overnight, which means that the rooms are very hot in summer (no air conditionning). Avoid the small single rooms (very cramped) and some of the smaller double rooms - last time there was barely room to walk to the bed. Housekeeping, however, is good. With better rooms, this hotel would be excellent.
loved the penventon
The Penventon Hotel is an excellent hotel. The service the best ever nothing is too much trouble. Food was divine. We had our wedding reception there 29years ago and the hotel is still the same top service well done will be visiting again.
