A great stay and we are going back in 2012
10 / 10
Aug 2011, Choo Sik Captain

Feb 2011 We ski every year all 16 of us, we had a great time at Pramstraller. George and his team really looked after us. Its close to the town and the bus stopped right out side the door. Rooms were tidy and cleaned every other day great service!! Boot room was a bit small but worked and breakfast was OK. Evening meal however was great!! The transfer is enough time to drink 4 beers and your there. Town is close and beer reasonable. I’m taking 16 guys back there Feb 2012 look out woodpeckers!!
Say no more....

OK. But not 3 stars
4 / 10
Jan 2011, Lonskier

The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are modern. The location is good. But do not expect a hotel's amenities: the lobby is not manned; the seating area looks like a bus station, is basically unlit and very cold; and the breakfast while adequate has none of the high quality supplies that one expects in Austria. Unfortunately, it also lacks any of the charm of a bed and breakfast. There was no soap in our bathroom, nor any shampoo and when I asked I was told none would be provided. This didn't help much when we needed it the first morning, since we did not notice until after the stores had closed. The hotel was perfectly serviceable, but it seems to misrepresent itself as a 3 star. We looked up the mandatory Austrian standards on the Internet and it was missing many, including the soap. One comes away with the impression of a management that cuts corners on many small things whilst focussing on running the shop in the front of the building. You will sleep well there and the town is great. Just don't go expecting a 3 star experience.

  • Advice: Clean, but don't be fooled by the 3 stars.

Location: At the quiet end of town....
3 / 10
Mar 2008, Mr A Vandenberg

Location:
At the quiet end of town. 10 – 15 minutes walk from the Penken lift. 6-7 minutes walk from the station where you get buses/trains to the other ski areas. Good bus from hotel to the Penken lift.
Rooms:
The room we were in had not been decorated for what seemed like 30 years. Polyester duvets, threadbare towels, avocado tiled bathroom, generally very poor quality and dated, more 2* than 4*. Pictures on their website must be of the newer rooms as our room looked nothing like what they had shown. We asked to move rooms but were denied. (photos of room are shown)
Half board restaurant:
They have a nice enough restaurant called La Vita, however if you’re on the half board deal you’re put out at the back in far less inviting area. We got the worst table at the end of a conservatory with one large window into the cold black night and the other window with a piece of net curtain disguising the car park we were next to. We asked to move table, but were told that was our table for the week. Due to our location and timings the two dinners we ate were on our own, with no atmosphere whatsoever. Not what you would hope from a fun Austrian resort.
Half board food:
The breakfast is good. No cooked breakfast except boiled eggs, but a good choice of meat/cheese (although the best stuff is finished off quickly and not replaced). Cereal, fruit, very good bread. Squash, tea/coffee etc.
The dinner is very poor. 6 courses in theory, for example a starter (that is prepared at 5:30pm and then left sitting until you come down so is nicely congealed by the time you get it. Salad from their salad bar which is quite good. Soup which is a different form of what tasted like tinned soup each night. Main course – which one day consisted of boiled frozen carrots and broccoli, deep fried hash brown and cheese thing. Or you could have had pasta that had been boiled about 2 hours previously with a spoon of ragu from a jar and a tough small bit of chicken with processed cheese on top. (Photos are attached). Followed by decent enough cheese and ice cream.
Resort:
Mayrhofen is a fun place with good après ski. The ski area is massive. It’s best if you go to the other ski areas at the start of the week and then the Penken at the end as everyone goes to the Penken area at the start and the queues can get huge. If you check out the other ski areas you could ski for an entire week never doing the same run twice (640km of piste in total!)
Overall impression:
The Pramstraller claims to be a 4* hotel, but I can only assume that was awarded a long time previously as it’s worse than some 2* hotels I’ve stayed in. If you do stay don’t get half board, you’ll end up eating out most nights anyway and there’s good cheap food to be had in Mayrhofen. If you get a really cheap deal then it might be ok, but we paid in the region of £800 for 2 people for a week at peak season and it was totally. Of the hotels I saw I would recommend the neue post or the neue haus.

Basic but homely rooms over a shop....
8 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs K Wilson

Basic but homely rooms over a shop. Extremely good location with bars and shops in easy walking distance. Right opposite church in square.
A few yards to nearest bus stop where bus runs every 10 mins or so at peak times to get to main gondola lift. Mayrhofen is spread out soi location is everything either close to lifts or on regular free bus route. Have stayed elsewhere in mayrhofen where bus runs much less frequently. Hb option provided by set meal in hotel kramewirt on other side of square. Not in main restaurant, hidden away in stuberl at side.
Food good but always soup, and salad to start. Did not get anything special to eat even though xmas day.

Went with Inghams on a taste of...

Aug 2004, glendyhouse

Went with Inghams on a taste of austria holiday. The guesthouse pramstraller was fantastic, very clean and pretty and located at the slightly quieter end of Mayrhofen. All rooms had a balcony, and private facilities. Breakfast was basic continental but certainly edible.
We ate in the Hotel Neuhauss, which was reasonable, although the service was a bit slow most nights. B&B guests from other hotels eat in a separate dining room from the hotels own guests, which was much smaller, with less menu choice, and a bit cramped. All in all the menu was good, with an option to pay extra and have a course off the a la carte menu if wished.
