Nice hotel in a great location but the rooms could do with some updating, but are clean. Most of the time you’re not in the room much anyway.
The entertainment at the hotel is varied and very good. Didn’t try the food as room only but the restaurants around Rodney Bay are excellent (Buzz, Spinikers and Eagles Nest).
The beach outside the hotel is very long and the best on the island. You must go to Pigeon Island, a national park and climb it to see the best view of Rodney Bay.
Would go back to this hotel again.

This is a good compromise between the luxury expensive hideaway AI hotels and the cheap holiday camp type AI hotels. It is an older style hotel which means it has nabbed a great location in a beautiful bay on a sandy beach that never gets crowded and is an easy walk to a variety of local bars and restaurants. Rooms are strung out in a wiggly single line just back from the beach, so even the worst rooms have at least a side sea view which might be obscured by trees and the beach is never more than a few yards away though the gardens or round the pool.
Most aspects of the hotel lack the “wow” factor but it is very very comfortable and relaxing. The beds were very comfortable and none of the rooms looked as if they would be noisy. Loungers were always available in the garden area which we found was an excellent place to relax in varying degrees of shade, or on the beach where there was a small charge, though they did tend to get reserved in other areas. The gardens were small but very well tended with a good variety of flowers which attracted numerous birds including humming birds
The food was good quality and well cooked though pretty predictable; the same English-ish breakfast each day and for dinner always a carvery or BBQ option, a white fish option, a local dish and usually one other, plus veg and salad.
Lunch was basic 3 course in the restaurant or a snack at the beach bar of the sister hotel. The wine was not good but the cocktails were excellent. Watersports were easy to organise and we particularly enjoyed the hobbie cats – if you are a novice you can pay for a 30 min lesson and then you should be fine – a great introduction to sailing.
The entertainment was just right for us. There was a different band each night (a couple with dance troupes) which covered all types of Caribbean music from a steel orchestra (yes orchestra! – and they did play a Strauss waltz), reggae and some excellent singers of everything from Bob Marley to Sade and Porgie and Bess.
There are a variety of seating areas and space to dance either undercover or outside. We also liked the fact that the hotel was not “closed” but was open to locals who did come in to eat a la carte and drink at the bar and listen to some of the bands – yes a few were possibly on the lookout for women but a number were families and couples having a night out.
Only on Saturday was there any competition for seats in the main lounge and this was the only night when you had to queue for a few minutes for a drink. In the peak season there are some low key activities during the day but in November there were only a couple of activities which were mostly at the sister hotel.
We only had 1 day of rain in the last 2 weeks of November, but those there the fortnight before only had 1 fine day – so it is a bit of a gamble in the rainy season. You also need to beware of sand flies, if you go on the beach in the late afternoon – probably in all seasons.
In summary it was wonderfully relaxing, most punters were British, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, there was no tipping, almost no queuing, no need to make reservations and the couple of minor rules they have seemed to get broken with no comment. Great stress free Caribbean!

The Rex St Lucian is the most enjoyable hotel to stay at. I have stayed at the Rex twice. It has got better and more brilliant since I had been there in 2004. The staff are friendly and always have time to talk to you. The drinks and the meals are all inclusive.
The pool is kept clean and is never cold. The restaurant (Mariners) has the greatest selection of food from Thai, Chinese to good old fish and chips.
It is on the lovely Reduit Beach with fantastic views. The shopping mall is a 5 minute walk. There is small bars on your walk from the hotel to the shopping mall.
If you want the holiday and hotel of a lifetime stay at the Rex St Lucian in Castries.

St Lucia is literally paradise. We stayed at the Rex St. Lucian, which is on Reduit Beach. The hotel was nice and the location was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful but occasionally there was a bit of confusion between EC$ and US$.

The food wasn’t overly great but once we found the things we liked it was ok as long as we avoided the sausage, bacon & eggs for breakfast in the Mariners!! The Chic! Restaurant in the Royal St. Lucian is more than excellent though. Your greeted with complementary champagne while your meal is prepared then treated to the best desserts I’ve every tried.

On the down side, Virgins idea of ‘All Inclusive’ leaves a lot to be desired. We found lots of surcharges that mounted up quite considerably. The biggest expense was the Chic! However, was well worth it.

The beach also has the occasional stray cat and dog who are very friendly so if you go and seen a tan and white dog, give her a digestive & make a fuss of her cause she’s a real sweetie!

We had a fantastic holiday in St Lucia. The hotel was quite basic but you get what you pay for - it was clean, and there were no bugs except mosquitos. We got a room with a sea view and it was really spectacular, especially in the evenings.
I got married there and the wedding was perfect. Completely stress free and Lorna, who arranged everything, was a gem. It was really beautiful and didn't feel at all rushed, or like a conveyor belt wedding as I had been worrying.
Reduit Beach is beautiful, and has to be seen to be believed, I recommend seeing it from the top of Pigeon Point. A fun boat ride out there, a brisk walk to the top then a lazy afternoon snorkelling and drinking fresh juice on the small beach.
There were a lot of people selling things on Reduit beach which was probably the only downside, but they were not as persistent as sales people in the UK. The stuff they sell is not quality - my friend bought a necklace which broke the day after.

Lovely people, staff guests and the guys that work the beach for jet ski (Sean, tell him Lesley and Mags sent you) and the Sting Ray ride (TJ) and Vernon who is a tour guide.
Hotel clean (three star) but felt higher and spread out quite a way as i'm sure the reception and restuarant got further and further away! we stayed right at the end in the Papillion rooms which are all inclusive right by the pool which is lovely and large and has a swim up bar, staff there are Lee in the afternoon and Lex or Delorney all really lovely and good fun. Champagne is included by the glass with all inclusive. There are organised pool games if you wish to take part and they have a childrens club apparently.
Food was sensational, mixture of caribbean and English although there is an oriential restuarant that we didnt use as it was closed (wouldnt have used it anyway), very few people staying there this time of year (rainy season) although we only got rain on the Tuesday. They are refurbishing some of the hotel at present but it doesnt disturb you.
You can use the facilities of the Royal Spa Hotel next door that has a lovely spa, ladies I recommend a massage from Jerome and the girls,(costs a bit) sauna steam and plunge pool.Alternatively, they is a young lady on the beach who is good for a massage for just $20EC.
The beach is beautiful and the sea lovely calm and clear, if you walk down to the end of the beach near the rocks there is a beautiful painted stone with a palm tree on it, worth a look, you'll have to look to find it at first but beautiful.
Take a trip across to Pidgeon Island, you will have to pay $15 EC dollars as its a conservation place, there is a fort at the top which is a steady climb. You can then come down the Atlantic side where you can buy a beer or a rum in the Captains Cellar pub which is made inside caves. Lots of weddings take place there. If you walk back around there are showers and a small bay ideal for swimming, there is a resturant and bar there too. Arrange with Sean to take you across by jet ski which was fab! or its an hours walk by road or 20 min car ride, nice for an afternoon.
St Lucia is by far my favourite Island in the Caribbean and I have been to many, it has stunning scenery, great food and the people are some of the nicest you can meet in the Caribbean.
We are going back next year!
