We arrived at the hotel and were greeted with drinks and by the manager which was great. We then gave our luggage to the bellboys who brought it up to our rooms and you had to tip them. The rooms were old and tired, the air conditioning was dripping down the damp wall and... more

What a disappointment. Apart from reasonable food in the very busy 2 main restaurants each with about 4 sittings per evening and the same menu for 2 weeks this is a very tired and disappointing hotel much like a Spanish hotel circa 1970's. Get your towel on a lounger by 7am... more

House wine
The Village is good, the Italian restaurant outstanding, but the cheap house wine offered-especially the white- lets the place down. It is a pity that even if you are prepared to pay extra for a decent glass of Chardonnay, you are forced to buy a full bottle, as the hotel refuse to offer guests the opportunity to purchase by the glass. I know I was not alone in my disappointment according to the chef and waiters. Numerous guests agreed with us on this issue, but didn't want to go through the hassle of complaining whilst trying to relax on holiday. This spoilt an otherwise enjoyable trip. Come on Almond management, it is not expensive or difficult these days to provide a decent house wine to your guests. All Inclusive means we have already paid and EXPECT a drinkable house wine, so please sort it out!
Fantastic holiday! (Jan 2003)
We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Barbados at the Almond Beach Village. To cover the main points - pleasantly pleased with accomodation (after reading neg reviews). We had a 1 bedroom suite which was very nice indeed with a lovely ocean view. The food at all the restaurants was excellent. No bother booking them either. The Italian was especially nice! We used room service for dinner a couple of times, you just rang to see which dinner menu it was and then made your choice. We could not fault one single member of staff. I think the people complaining about staff are the ones who are being rude and the staff not putting up with it. Good on them!! Our young daughter went to the kids club a few times and did fun things whilst we relaxed at the bar. We felt totally confident with the staff at the kids club too. There was plenty of space for everyone as well. We easily found a quiet spot whenever we wanted to. These are just a few points, I could go on forever. To sum up, this is the only place we have ever been and will be booking the exact same thing again.Oh, and if you go with Virgin Atlantic, it is well worth upgrading to premium economy.
Loved the Village
Just returned from a GREAT week at the Almond Vilage Jan. 15-21. Everything was perfect. We stayed in a superion deluxe room which was very big. The location of our room was perfect. Right near the adult pool and beach. Beach was Fantastic. Food and beverage were great. Shows at night were ok, but we were tired from all the activitys during the day it didnt really matter. Found the staff wonderful and very helpful. The water sports were great. Loved every minute of the vacation and hated to leave.
almond beach village! - i loved it!
this was by far the best holiday i have been on! i would reccommend it to everybody, it was so relaxing and the most enjoyabe time iv ever had! you should go, the food and drink is excellent and so are all the staff.
Almond Beach Village - Excellent
Stay: 03/01/2003 - 17/01/2003. We booked our holiday over the internet with Virgin Holidays (as a "mega deal"), after having spotted Almond Beach Village (A.B.V) in several brochures, and also seeing a couple of less than favourable reviews on Virgin and another site. I was initially expecting a disaster, but we had a brilliant time from start to end. The hotel was huge and the staff very friendly. The food choice was excellent and delicious, Enid's and the Italian stood out for us. The beach and pools were also great and there was plenty of room to sunbathe when and where you wanted, kid free pools which we preferred. The pools were clean, as was the beach, we also used the tennis courts and the Gym and they were fine too. We booked some excursions - Jeep Safari, Cruises, Rum Factory through the Virgin rep, which were all extremely well organized, good value and great fun. I went Scuba diving through the guys who demo at the hotel which was an amazing experience. The rooms and general state of the place was fine, rooms were very clean, of adequate size and well maintained, not like the horror story painted in one review. You are in Barbados, and you worry all about the room? Apart from sleeping, how much time are you going to be spending in there when it is so lovely outside!? Went to some of the other hotels to pick up people for excursions and they all looked pale and in some cases tatty compared to A.B.V. Have to say that there were many very RUDE Brits and Americans staying there; e.g. we had to try and stop laughing aloud at dinner one night when listening to a 14 year old American child scream abuse at his Mum, Dad and the waitress for not bringing him enough food (the plate was huge). One of the barmen nearly fainted because whilst he was pouring us a drink, we said please and asked if he was having a good day - and people wonder why they don't get a beaming smile when they brusquely demand "2 cocktails – no no NO! I want a bigger glass - AND you haven't given me a cherry!..." The weather was scorching, the sea was blue and warm, and to top things off we spotted Tony Blackburn was staying there too. Fantastic!
SoSo Trip
Spend a week at Almond Village Aug 2002. not cheap, OK but definitely not luxury. Smallish room, food OK but not great exc Italian restaurant. Too many rough families (from the UK sad to say) with football strips and noisy voices. Nice pools v good for kids who also like endless ice cream. Dont go there if you want peace and quiet, even at 730am the pool cleaner has loud music on! Staff friendly and generally helpful and water sport facilities good including turtle feeding which is a must. Barbados itself is a bit scraggy and other islands may be better for those who want to explore.
This Holiday Was So Fun!
My whole family loved this place and we had an awesome time! The food in the Italian resteraunt was definitely the best, we went there the last night. The food in the other resteraunts was alright, the breakfast buffet was very good and we loved the snacks at the pool bar/kids bar by the reef! The beach was very nice and we loved the banana boat, it was lots of fun! We met lots of other kids there close in age to me and my brothers (16,13,9) and we had lots of fun hanging out with them everyday and swimming in the pools in the evening! My youngest brother LOVED the kids club, we could barely tear him away! He made lots of friends there as well, and it was very well supervised. The disco was fun on the last night, the only time we went. One night they had a very nice Buffet-style dinner on the beach, and another night they had a similar style dinner in the courtyard which was also very nice. My only complaints about this resort were that some vendors on the beach were quite annoying, but that can be overlooked. This resort is a great place, we HIGHLY recommend it, especially to families.
not a premium resort
We just retured from the Almond Beach resort. The resort was very good but we felt that we paid a premium price for a very good (but definately not) premium stay. Our family did aave a very good time and enjoyed the facilities but there are a couple of points that keep this resort from being outstanding. Firstly, the food: it is horrible. The selection is limited and the hours of service are very regimented. Also the staff, while some employees were very nice the bulk had a serious attitude and left the impression that they would rather be elsewhere. The resort is alo tired, a coat of paint would certainly brighten things up. While we generally enjoyed our stay I don't think Almond Beach will see us again in the near future. It's a shame, becuae a little more effort could make this into an excellent facility.
Great Vacation
We were at the Almond Beach Village between November 24, 2002 until December 6, 2002. When we first arrived we were greated to a rum punch, but to our dismay we were notified that the hotel was overbooked. They sent us to a hotel called "The Savannah" for 1 night. The Savannah was a fantastic hotel, although we preferred The Almond beach village. The ABV grounds were beautifully maintained and very clean. We felt very safe and comfortable wandering throughout the property, day or night. The room is basic. It was clean, had a comfortable mattress and good air conditioning. The rooms are not fancy, and could use some updating. The bathroom was quite tiny. There are 4 restaurants. We enjoyed The Reef and The Smarrita the best. You need to make dinner reservations in advance, as these restaurants book up quickly. The food at ABV was very good to excellent regardless of which restaurant we ate at.We really enjoyed The Bajan Picnic and The Beach BBQ. The service is friendly and accomodating. Although ABV has several pools, we enjoyed spending our time at the beautiful beach. The water was clear and warm. We recommend taking a bug repellent as there are sand fleas that like to nibble on your legs, although we never felt them doing so. It is a good idea to take beach/water shoes as well. There are some rocks when you first enter the water. There are local people who will try to sell you everything from jewellery to jetski's rentals. Although it can be annoying, they will take "NO" for an answer. The nightly entertainment was not all that great, except for Saturday evening, they had a great band and 2 girls performing The "Limbo" with fire. All in all it was an enjoyable vacation. If you pay full price, you may be somewhat dissapointed, however, if you are able to obtain a great rate, we highly recommend this property.
Not Worth It
The hotel is run down and not very clean. Stray cats roam the dining room - disgusting! Stray dogs and skeezy vendors on the public beach are also disgusting. The room had broken lamps, a dangerously loose ceiling fan and needed a paint job. We were told that one side was adult-only, but it's just one pool, so the entire beach is overrun with kids. Food is mediocre except for the Italian restaurant. The only good things were the weather and the Caribbean, neither of which the resort can take credit for. You can do much better with your vacation dollars than to waste them at the Almond Beach Village.
