The nicest family i ever met!
I booked my trip 3 months ago slightly worried, as i am far from a fan of 'booze cruise brits abroad' destinations... but as soon as i arrived at my hotel i was put to ease. Kardamema caters mainly for 18-30 group holidays, and you dont get much of a feel for Greece in the town, however at evripidis village I had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful, very cheap for a four star hotel and the family who own it were very welcoming and made my stay the best i could have asked for. the manager Nikos couldnt do enough for us, regularly taking me and my friend to Kos town to show us more of the island as were dissapointed with Kardanema, gave us advice on where to go and how to get the best deals on car rental etc (the reps will rip you off on everything by 100% of the prices), upgraded our hotel room free of charge for our second week out of the kindness of his heart and was above all very friendly and made our stay every bit as wonderful as it could have been considering we are travellers and not boozers! His son Uri and their other bar man Chris were just as nice, taking us out for drinks and generally having a laugh with us, I was dissapointed when they both had to go home to boston and sweden after our first week as I had so much fun with them! In the second week Nikos bought a whole lamb and bbq'd it for all the guests, we had karoke nights and Nikos asked us to perform with his guitar for the guests as we are both musicians. Above all, i could not have asked for better hosts and by the end of my trip felt i had made some very good friends. I think what people have to remember is to be polite to your hosts and they will show you the same in return. You are paying a very low price for a beautiful four star hotel and i witnessed many guests being disrespectful towards its owners, complaining about silly things such as bugs or the weather... you are in Greece!!!! expect it to be hot and a few strange looking creatures! The hotel is a long walk from town, but it is advertised and being out of town and is perfect to get a good nights sleep without the chaos of bar street keeping you awake. The rooms are cleaned daily and although the studios are basic, are sufficient and the more expensive rooms are beautiful! A wonderful hotel, alot more than i expected for the price i paid and i will certainly be coming back next year!
DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR HERE!!!
well....where to start?? Kardamena is a lovely little town, lively enough if you want it but not in your face so you can't escape it - i would totally reccomend this town =) the hotel Evripides on the other hand is a disgrace!! the rooms themselves are basic which is fine as you don't go on hols to stay in your room, but as this was a SC hol i expected there to be an eating area in the room as i have found with other hotels - this was not the case and we ended up eating whilst sitting on our beds. the room was not cleaned once whilst we were there and the drains were backed up so that was all you could smell (i did ask if anything could be done about this and was told it was to be expected as it was august and therefore busy, they did bleach the drains for us once though and we ended up putting washing up liquid down there twice a day which helped) this smell was present throughout the hotel, as you sat by the pool and as you walked up the drive to the hotel you could see the sewer water in the grounds - YUCK!! the towels were changed three times and the sheets were only changed once (which i had to request) which given how hot it was meant you were very sticky and uncomfortable. the air con was 35 euro's for the week BUT don't pay it as there are fans on sale in the supermarket for 19 euro's so much more penny friendly my biggest complaint though would have to be against Nikos the manager/owner as he was so rude and agressive when dealing with his guests. the water ran out at the hotel twice and the second time it had been over an hour when i went down to ask if there was an estimated timescale for it to come back on. Nikos was more interested in telling me it wasn't his problem and i wasn't the only one to complain so i left his office to call the rep, he followed me out to the front of the hotel and continued his tirade which i then returned stating the problems we had had so far and that i wasn't happy. his response was to shout, swear and tell me to get out of his hotel, threatening me to start packing and i had twenty minutes to get out. in tears i spoke to the rep and was told that Nikos can be hot headed and not to worry as he wouldn't actually kick me out and that was it. needless to say olympic holidays will be contacted and this hotel will forever go down as the worst place to go in greece EVER!!!!
very disappointing
The resort was too far out from anywhere. I knew the town was a 40minute walk, but there isn't even a supermarket nearby for any essentials. The pool was lovely, free sunbeds and umbrellas but the sun bed cushions are an additional cost. Bar food and drinks very pricey for what you get. Air conditioning in rooms is also an additional cost plus deposit - not what we expected for the price we paid! Toilet roll in your bathroom is also an additional price - everything uneccesarily taking away spending money. Staff generally unhelpful and rude - often ignoring you. I wouldnt stay here again, the town itself was clearly catered for youngsters (teenagers, who just want to get their leg over and get sloshed). The rooms themselves were not cleaned at all in the week - the bed sheets not changed and towells changed once in the whole week. Supplies in kitchen a bare minimum - more like a hostel than self catering and was generally dirty. Not even supplied with washing up liquid or a sponge! On the whole, not what was expected at all...
Beautiful place & cheap, shame about the noise, equipment & location
Evripides (also known as Evripides Apartments and Evripedes Village) is a complex with a hotel, swimming pool, bar and self catering apartments. The pool is as good as you could hope for. The complex is about 3 minutes walk (down a long drive) from the beach, but unfortunately the beach has no sun loungers or umbrellas nearby, which is difficult in the Greek heat. Also, the complex is a 40-45 minute walk from the nearest town centre and supermarket in the boiling heat (ignore the reps' 20-30 min estimate, they're counting edge of complex to edge of town for a fit 20 year old). Buses are every 1-2 hours and €1.60 into town. Taxis are €7. (This makes the place a less good bet for people who want to go out clubbing all holiday than a hotel actually in Kardamena.) Once you get to town, 2 sun loungers + an umbrella on the beach are €5 per day. All food was VERY expensive (presumably in part because of the exchange rate). You can get fairly reasonably priced, pleasant food at Evripides' bar, but the portions are very small. Fortunately the bar also sells 6 packs of water for €3. The self catering equipment is v. basic, non-matching and slightly different in each room. Mine had a fridge and sink, a 2 ring hob, a kettle, a small saucepan, a tall, small saucepan, an omelette pan, a large colander, an extremely difficult tin opener and several undersized plastic plates/dishes, some cutlery (none for cooking), 2 small mugs & 2 small glasses. Cooking was difficult and we ended up with pasta and sauce almost every day as everything else was expensive or impossible to cook on the equipment there. Apart from the difficulties in getting food back to the hotel and cooking on the available equipment, my biggest problems were the heat and the bar. The heat meant you needed to leave your window open at night, the bar (which opened as late as people wanted to stay) frequently produced a level of noise late into the night that (even with ear plugs) we had to shut our balcony door to sleep through (we faced the pool/bar, other rooms are probably better - we went last minute and got an appropriately poor room). We several times in 2 weeks experienced karaoke into the early hours which you could hear in our room louder than I usually have a radio on and films at a similar volume that suddenly got put on after midnight. To be fair, I could have paid to use the air conditioning, but I got the impression it was quite expensive. Another problem was that the mattresses were incredibly hard. We both had back problems after a week. The walls were not in the least soundproof, but we mainly didn't find that a problem. The cleanliness was OK given the price we paid. Also, on the plus side, the owners (who did almost everything around the place) were lovely and we felt very welcome. Also, they do seem to be gradually doing the place up (in a way that doesn't disturb your stay), so I assume some rooms were better than ours. Another plus is that I think all rooms have a decent balcony (ours had a table & 3 chairs) and that there is a fly screen which lets you leave the balcony door open without all the flies coming in. A negative however, is that that area seems often to be very windy. Basically, I would recommend this as a cheap holiday (the price is very low), if it weren't for the fact that unless you really do just want to spend all holiday round the pool (genuinely an excellent one) or don't mind sitting on the sand without an umbrella or lounger, the extras (even including food cooked yourself) really add up. You do definitely get value for the money you spend here and in the end, you can shut the window and sweat at night and take painkillers for your back if the bed causes you a problem. The question is whether this will be enough for you and how much extra you'll end up spending. I would happily recommend the place if the hotel put loungers and umbrellas out on the beach and if they had a policy of keeping the music/karaoke/TV noise from the bar down to a reasonable level after 11 pm.
wonderful holiday
We have just returned from a week at the Evripides hotel in kardamena kos.We want to go back and could quite happily live there. Our hosts Nikos and Denise are two of the most welcoming people you could possibly meet and could not do enough for us. The room was lovely with a wonderfull view over the pool to the Turkish coast. The hotel is situated just outside of town and in my opinion is better situated to get away from the hustle and bustle when you want to,it also has the best pool in Kardamena. The barbecue night we had at the hotel was better than all of the restaurants we went to, Nikos and Denise put on a wonderfull selection of food and we highly recommend it.Everything about Kos was beautifull but what made the holiday special was the people, we were treated like family and hope to return to see our friends next year.
Never been so dissapointed
I went away with my best mate for a fun girlie holiday. When we arrived on the coach both our hearts sank as the hotel is stuck in the middle of nowhere. So much for self catered apartments....we were in a twin room where we had to cook and sleep in the same room...the drains smelt at night and the beds were really uncomfy. We didn't even have a kettle or enough cutlery on arrival. In the 2 weeks we were there our rooms were cleaned once and were dirty on arrival. How dissapointed were we that there is in fact no real beach, even after we had requested a beach holiday...there is just a bit of sand and rubble at the end of the road. In the 2 weeks we did not get one full night sleep as we were woken EVERY night by rowdy drunk people and the scary thing was these weren't just teens but grown men in there forties. The only saving grace really was the pool and free sun loungers. Kardamena itself we thought was a hole and only gueared towards teens wanting to get paraletic and do nothing else. Worst holiday I have ever been on :-(
nice and quiet
after reading some of the reviews about everipedes village my friends and my husband were getting worried about what we were letting our selves in for,but when we arrived we were shown to our rooms by nikos! mum who although must be in her 60s at least tried to carry our cases for us untill we made her leave it to us and when we needed anything we always got what we needed more or less straight away.it is a good distance from the centre but once you get used to the timetable for the bus it is no hardship and the bus drops you right near to the big louis supermarket for your food shopping,if you take the time to get to know the family they are quite friendley and are really good with children.uri is not rude in fact he can be quite funny and we hope he does well in his hotel management course.
Nice Apartments
Hotel/apartments very nice, clean, modern. Air conditioning extra charge of 35 euros per week. Pool large and nice, sun loungers cushions cost 1 euro per day. Bar prices for drinks/snacks very expensive, not much choice. No local shops to buy any drinks/food. Location was a problem as too far to walk into town - 30 minute walk. Local bus went into town but not between the hours of 11 & 2 cost 1.6 euros one way. Taxi into town 7 euros. Transport a recommendation - moped/car/quad bike.
loved it!!
firstly i'd like to say that Uri was not rude!! we've just come back from staying there for 2 weeks also in june and had the BEST time ever!! the apartments were basic but exactly as described and exactly what we paid for the pool was lovely nice and cool and quiet........i am 25 so still lovin the parties and that but like to relax in the daytime and find the party at night so this gave it the right mix back to uri and the family they could not do enough for you................so friendly nothing was too much trouble and they would keep the bar open ALL night long till the last (wo)man was standing!! what more can you ask for!! would recommend this hotel to everyone! even though you had to pay 7euros for a taxi each way AND if you walked it you would die of heat exhaustion half way............it was actually nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of the main town centre and it gave us an excuse to hire a quad which was SOOOOOOOOOOO much fun!! anyway we loved it and one last thing everyone staying there also seemed to be soo freindly everyone chatted to everyone which was nice and a first for us (we usually stay in proper snobby hotels lol) will def be goin back asap (as soon as we can save up another load of dollar!!) the twins...........Michelle and Tara xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Not the best
My friend and I have just returned from two weeks holiday in Kos. First time to Kardamena and it is a great place to go on holiday, people very friendly, loads of nice places to eat etc. Weather fantastic. I would recommend Anna's and Nemo's restaurants, although I must say everywhere we ate was lovely. We stayed at Everipedes Village and although the apartment was fine (good size, cleaned every other day, towels changed etc) Lovely pool. It is too far from Village. There is a local bus which is reliable but goes off during the day for siesta, also taxi's only take a few minutes to reach town. The staff, I must say are at best not very friendly and at worst down right rude. Uri take note!! ( this is not the best accomodation in the village) All in all we had a great time and met some really nice people. Would definitely return to Kardamena but not to these apartments.
