I stayed in these apartments for one week with a friend. I think I should mention that there is a two hr bus transfer to these apartments. The apartment itself was large and very clean on arrival. We had a large balcony which was facing the main road which was quite noisy at... more

We booked our flights independently and the apartment through Alpharooms. We have been to Praia Da Rocha 3 times, November 2005, May 2006, and New Year 2006/7, and wanted to stay a little out of resort, so chose the Presidente for its excellent location, half way between... more

this hotel is old and needs a good clean on the outside.. outside windows dirty.... rooms clean and a nice size.. no entertainment at night so if you are staying in hotel at night you will be bored.. location excellent.. 10mins to the strip and beach but a lot of steps down to beach.... some staff grumpy.. they didnt care less.. pool very small. and no kids club so if you have kid they will be bored silly... i would give this place 5 out of 10...
Great Location and Spacious Apartments
I agree with the last review. The apartment we got was 601 and was a very spacious 1 bed with a terrace and balcony! The view was amazing and it was great being a 10 min walk away from the built up Praia da Rocha. The cleaners came everyday and the reception staff were always friendy. We booked with stein travel and there was a rep there very often which was helpful for booking day trips. I wouldnt recommend the breakfast though unless a roll of ham and cheese is what you are after, however it is good value at €4.48 each. The only negative we found was that we were located beside a lift which was quite noisy, plus there were seagulls just one floor above us on the roof who were screeching constantly, however nothing can be done about these unfotunately. If you are looking for a romantic/quiet night out in Praia da Rocha then go into Hotel Atlantis where they have live music - its an older crowd but you get to hear Portuguese music and dance to it if you're feeling brave. The beaches are amazing - well worth going to for a relaxing break.
Great Location, Great place.
When we checked into our Apartment we were very pleasantly surprised at it's size and cleanliness. This apartment was bigger than a lot of places on the market to buy here at home! It was very comfortable and had everything you need. I loved the tiling, which was nice and cool to walk on in the heat. This was certainly the nicest apartment i've ever stayed in. The balcony too was huge and had great views around the resort. The best thing about this place though, was it's location. On a cliff top it stands alone, over-looking one of the Algarve's best beaches and is thankfully about a 5-10 minute walk outside the high-rise mayhem of Praia de Rocha! It's a short, cheap taxi ride to Alvor which is a far nicer resort but is handy for all local amenities. I know some reviewers have said the pool area is too small but it really isn't that small and anywhere you go mid-summer is going to be full of kids anyway. I would definately recommed this place to couples and families and anyone wanting a great relaxing holiday in the sun!
Past it's sell by date
Just got back from the Presidente Hotel. We have visited Praia da Rocha three times this year (having previously stayed at the Casino and Mar a Vista). I'll keep it short... GOOD POINTS. The location is right on top of the cliff so it's a short walk to several great beaches. It's also only a short walk to the hustle and bustle of Praia da Rocha but far enough to avoid the noise. The rooms (apartments) are clean and spacious. Free underground garage parking. BAD POINTS. The whole hotel looks tired. The kitchen looked like a well used 1980's MFI job. No cooker (only a microwave) Only one socket in the kitchen (toaster or microwave but not both at the same time!) No air-con. Road noise with the windows/patio doors open (probably better from the rooms nearer the front). Pool is too small for the number of rooms. 10 euros/week to use the room safe. SUMMARY Could be a great hotel if they spent some money updating it but as it stands it's a bit disappointing. Could still be a viable option if you don't have a car and don't like walking but I think that Jardim do Vau and Mar a Vista are far superior for similar money (taxis are cheap if you really don't do walking).
Presidente Apt. Portugal
These apartments were 3 star but they were so much nicer than I had expected. We had a seaview which was not difficult to get as the apartments have almost a 360 degree view of the sea. It was only 5 mins from the beach and the apartments were spotless- towels changed every two days and bed linen changed twice weekly. It was fully equipped with microwave, toaster, kettle, cooking utensils- perfect if you were staying in to cook. It had an excellent snack bar and restaurant although we did not eat there at evening time- but the menu looked quite appetizing. The pool was on the small side but was sufficient, there was no charge on the sun loungers with mats either. It was a 10-15 minute into the centre which we didn't mind as it whetted our appetites- also good for walking off the hangover to come on the way home! If you're on the lazy side like me though a taxi is only €3.90. All in all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the best apartments I have stayed in in a long time.
Excellent apartment
Just back from a two week visit. First time in the Algarve. The apartment was very spacious and spotless as it was cleaned every day, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's situated between Priai da Vau a small resort, and Priai da Rocha which is much bigger and more brash. The building has 107, 1 and 2 bedroom apts. and is located on its own with great views out to the sea which is just across the road. All the rooms are a very good size. The kitchen is well stocked with pans, crockery etc. and the bathroom towels are changed every second day and the bed linen is changed twice a week. There is only one small supermarket on site which is expensive and has very limited stock. But this is not a problem because there are bigger ones about 10-15 min. walk away along a very nice tiled walkway overlooking the sea in Priai Da Rocha, and even bigger ones in nearby Portimoa. On the minus side the pool is far too small for such a big complex especially in the summer, and there is very little entertainment in the hotel. This didn't bother us as we rarely spent much time there. We wanted a quiet holiday with sea, sand and sun and we certainly got that. It's very easy to get around without a car because there's a very good bus service and taxis are plentiful and cheap. Nearby Ferraguda and Alvor are completely different and lovely places to visit and have great fresh fish meals. The very nearby town of Portimoa is also worth a visit, and from there you can take boat and fishing trips. I would not like to go to the area in high summer when, to quote one of the staff, 'it's horrific' because of the huge numbers of people. Priai da Rocha is a small area very densely packed with high rise apartments and a long strip of nondescript souvenir shops, not our usual kind of place but at this time of year it was fine. The beaches are magnificent and the wall to wall sunshine with wonderful sunsets viewed from our balcony made it a lovely holiday.
Tired and jaded
My friend and I stayed in the Presidente Apts and were very disappointed. I'm sure it was once a fine establishment but now old and jaded. It needs a complete reburb. Staff were very nice and helpful. Pool area is not wonderful either. We stayed in Jardim do Vau 1/2 mile up the road last year and it was far superior for just about the same money. If you like a little bit of luxury and are not looking for very basic 2 star - don't go!
Fantastic Holiday had by all
I have recently returned from a weeks holiday with my husband and 3 young children. The Presidente was a great place for a young family. The apartments were spotless and very spacious with good facilities if eating in was required. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the bar area was spotless. Whilst there was little formal entertainment in the apartments the busy restaurants and bars were a short walk away. This was extremely child friendly as a beautiful paved walkway into Praia Da Rocha meant there were no dangers from traffic. The pool was very clean and whilst the loungers were a bit tired the pool was never over busy and the fantastic beaches are literally across the road. On the journey into Praia da Rocha we never set eyes on the sea until we reached Presidente. We were overwhelmed by the views from the apartment balconies. As the Presidente stands alone right on the coast the views are absolutely magnificent. I would absolutely recommend a stay here for anyone considering the Praia Da Rocha/Praia do Vau area.
Very Friendly, but not no entertainment
Just got back from Praia da Rocha after 2 weeks, Stayed in Presidente Apartments had a ball the only bad thing about the apartments is theres no entertainment at night except for an old man playing the keyboard, other than that staff are really friendly and apartments are cleaned everyday. Nightlife in Praia da rocha is brill we went to Irelands eye first every night, were Willie from cork plays everynight, staff are all lovely... Then head to Cheers, a few good looking bar men there, then head to Babylone till 7 or 8 the next morning, the only time we saw the sun was going home from the nightclub the next morning. I would defo recommend it but if i was to go back i would stay in praia da rocha itself.
Loved the Presidente
We stayed at the Apartment Presidente. Really lovely place. Staff were fabulous and extremely helpful. Rooms were very spacious, cleaned daily and very child friendly. Nicest apartments that we have stayed in over the last twenty years of travelling. Magnificent beach a couple of mins. away. Not much entertainment and pool area was a bit disappointing but the great beach made up for this.
