Located in the heart of Barcelona, Hotel Peninsular offers an enviable position for exploring the contrasts of this Catalan city. Only a few steps away from Las Ramblas, our guests will get their senses filled with the genuine Barcelona: a cosmopolitan, bohemian, sophisticated, historical, generous and artistic city. Hotel Peninsular is intended for travellers who enjoy places with charm, but it also offers good transport connections to Barcelona's airport and national coaches thanks to its close proximity to train and underground stations.

We have often passed thro Gerona Airport on our way to the coast but this tme we thought it would be nice to have a look at Gerona City.

The Peninsular Hotel is ideally placed for sightseeing, all the places of interest are within easy walking distance, but be prepared for steepish gradients and many steps.

Taxi fare from the Airport was 27 Euros. Reception was quick and easy and the receptionist provided a map of the city which was most useful.

Our room was not spacious but very clean and probably recently refurbished. Certainly OK for a four day stay

No restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast was continental buffet style which provided a pleasant relaxed start to the day

We enjoyed our stay in Gerona. This is a well run hotel with helpful friendly staff. The only downside was the lift which broke down twice during our stay but was quickly fixed.

This very unusual hotel is really more like a hostel. As it used to be a convent it has many rooms on several gallery type floors, all overlooking the ground floor which is full of chairs and tables. There are lots of plants hanging from the glass ceiling, giving the feeling of air and space. Our room was very basic but did have a perfectly adequate bathroom Ensuite - thank goodness a real bath not a dribbly little shower.

Our room was off the main balcony and on the stairwell, this meant that due to the floors being like the original and tiled it was a little noisy. The view was uninspiring (unless like us you are a big fan of Hitchock's Rear Window). Breakfast was the usual continental affair, lovely locally baked rolls and tasty little buns with cheese and ham, honey and jam, lots of coffee, tea and orange juice.

The huge dining room was very full and lively - it's a big hotel! A great start to a day's site seeing. The hotel was on a pedestrianised road, left toward the Ramblas and right toward the red light district. We had a great time in Barcelona and I would recommend this hotel if you are on a tight budget or prefer to stay in something a little different.
