A clean comfortable base in Nice. A few streets up from the main station and a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping street. Rooms are clean, cosy and heated with TV and phone, the bathroom was very small but clean with fresh towels and toiletries, hot water was... more

I found Hotel Comte de Nice on the Internet. It was basic but gave excellent value for money. It was fairly near the main railway station so was central. We stayed in an apartment, which had really good facilities for cooking, including hob, microwave and fridge. They... more

Booked cheap flights with EasyJet and Octopus for the Hotel Comte on Rue de Dijon. We were delighted at being able to choose our room. The standard rooms were OK although it was very hot and there was no air conditioning, but were able to upgrade for £10 to a beautiful... more

Avoid in summer
I stayed for 1 night and it was hot. There is no ventilation in the corridors to the rooms. The fan is a must and you have to leave a deposit for it. The beach is a long walk and there is a new tram lime being installed at the momment so lots of dust. They advertises parking but if the car is bigger than a mimi forget it there is a public car park next door that is free over-night. It would be good in the winter or not so hot months. Staff are friendly and try hard to please.
Pleasant, Small, Friendly Cheap Hotel
This hotel is off the ave Jean Medecin. At night the hotel is quiet, and as a group of women we did not have a problem walking back late at night. we stayed for 5 nights, and the room was cleaned and tidied every day and was just large enough (however there were three of us in a twin room). The beds were fine, the breakfast was well worth the seven euros, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is five to ten minute walk away from the train station, and the buses are a five min walk away. A note- there is no coffee/tea making facitlites in the room. There is no air conditioning, It was fine when we were there, but if you were to stay in summer i could see how this could be a problem. really enjoyed my stay here, especailly as this was a cheap hotel.
Basic but good value
Stayed at this hotel for one night, after returning from a week on EasyCruise. Hotel was a little basic but staff were friendly and the room we were allocated (we too had a choice of two rooms) was spacious and clean - it also came equipped with a portable fan, which was ideal as the room was rather warm and stuffy. Hotel is situated approximately a 15 minute walk from the beach/promenade and only 2mins from one of Nice's main shopping streets. Ideal for budget travellers, looking to explore the city of Nice.
The staff made this break a great break!
This hotel is only a 2 star, and the facilities are basic. However, we were given the choice of two rooms, both similar size, but one came complete with kitchenette, fridge, microwave, hobs, sink and pots & pans. This room had 3 windows, so was airy and light. Our bags were left in a locked room while our room was being prepared. We did not buy the 7 euro breakfast, but those that did enjoyed it. The best part of the hotel, which is gently being upgraded (no builders here), was the reception staff. Amazingly multi-lingual and so friendly. They answered every question about buses, trains, eating places, shopping. Even the night porter was freindly, gently making fun of my schoolboy French, in a nice way! The location is close to a few bus stops, which are the best way to get around, or a 10 minute suitcase drag from the main train station. We will go back next year, because we were made to feel valued, which for a small hotel is no mean feat. By the way, they locked our bags in a room when we were due to go home and let us use the facilities to get changed etc for our late flight.
Lovely homely hotel
I stayed at the Comre De Nice Jan 22nd. 2006 for 3 nights, I was firstly impressed by the homely atmosphere of this hotel, and the friendliness and effficeny of the staff. The breakfast was also very good. I really enjoyed my stay there, amd I found the hotel;s position excellent for quietness, yet so close to all the tourist areas.
Pleasant hotel
The Hotel Comte de Nice is a pleasant hotel away from the Promenade des Anglais and Old Nice. It is inexpensive and clean and on arrival one is allowed to pick from the available rooms (which are generally small). The Rue Dijon is usually very quiet. The hotel is located a short distance from the rail station and the 18 bus passes very nearby. The staff is very helpful. Don't expect a palace, but you should have a pleasant sleep.
Ok budget hotel - if weather is not to hot!
Ok hotel - we stayed here because it was close to the railway station, and we should leave next morning. Nice rooms, nice staff - but, very hot in summer. Good hotel for other seasons I think. Nice prices, a bit too far from the promenade for some - maybe.
Hot Hot Hot
We booked this hotel through expedia for a very good price, and had mixed feelings after spending six nights there recently. The room was very clean and well decorated, although they seemed to have neglected that bathroom somewhat. The paint was peeling off the walls in there, and there was a leak every time the room above showered. Not nice. The main problem was the heat- never again will I stay at a hotel without air conditioning. It was like being baked alive, the heat hit you everytime you entered the room, it was hotter than outside during the midday sun. We actually longed to leave the room as it made you feel ill if you stayed there too long. They lent us a fan which just circulated the hot air, it was completely unbearable. We bought water which practically boiled overnight. Saying that, we were aware there was no air con, just never realised how awful it would be. This hotel would be perfectly adequate out of high season. Location-wise, it was 10 minutes from the train station and about 20-30 from the seafront, basically straight down the ave Jean-Medecin. The area did feel a little unsafe at night, we tried to avoid returning late which was a shame. The hotel quality is reflected in the price, but I would advise anyone considering this hotel to stay nearer the old town area, it is simply beautiful at night and well worth a little extra money.
Not the greatest
I think you get what you pay for with this hotel. We arrived quite late at night only to find that the buses from the airport to the hotel had stopped running, so we had to make other arrangements. This involved a long walk, with heavy suitcases up from the promenade, which is not close at all. The place itself is very basic, the only good thing was that the room was spotless. Unfortunately we got put in the room on the ground floor, off the dining area, and were awoken at around 6am by kitchen staff preparing breakfast and then by the coffee machine that made a loud whirring noise everytime someone used it - not too pleasant! At least we only stayed there for 1 night. It was close to the train station, but not close to any other attractions. It definitely reminded me to stick to choosing to stay in a 3-star hotel (at least) in future...
I wanted to keep this a secret....
An excellent budget hotel. SOme might find it a bit off the beaten track as it's a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Promenade des Anglais but we preferred it because the area was quieter and the road it's off of has a market along it 6 days a week which was great to walk through. It's a 5 - 10 minute walk from the station and the airport bus (the local cheaper one) stops 5 mins away. It's also only 2 minutes away from the seperate train station that takes you up to the skiing areas. It was excellent value, when we arrived we were given the choice of a self catering studio or a room even though we'd paid for breakfast already! we didn't see the point of hogging facilities we didn't need so we opted for the straightforward ensuite room. Rooms are small but clean, breakfast was fresh and tasty, staff were really friendly and helpfull. We liked it so much we're taking my mum there for her 60th!
