Locanda Sturion Hotel reviews

9 / 10
Dec 2006, Mr H J Cleveland

An excellent value hotel in a wonderful location. Enter via a long staircase off the street, no lift, that was really about the only negative. We were 3 persons staying 2 nights, and after one night, without asking, we were offered a larger room. Decor in both rooms was... more

Be in shape and this is a great deal!
After deciding we could handle the stairs, we stayed at Locanda Sturion for 3 nights in April. We had a room overlooking the Grand Canal and boy was that a treat. It was noisy though - you have to decide if the view is worth giving up some late mornings. We only had 3 days in Venice so we knew we would be up and running relatively early. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was an experience in amongst itself just staying at such an old classis hotel, where you can see it pictured in very old photos! The room was large and of course... more
Room with a View
I stayed at the Locanda Sturion for three nights and had the luck of getting the large room with the view of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge. If you ever fantasized of what Venice must be like, this hotel was Venice. The building is very old, the hotel is very old, and when you look out those windows, I saw the Venice I had always dreamed of. First, getting around Venice can be a challenge, but once you are familiar with the city, you realize how small it is and how easy it is to get around. The Hotel is directly across from... more
Good location, horrible quad
This was the worst room we had in Italy. It was on the top floor with a view of the rooftops. It really is a small triple, with a large bed in the main room and a twin in a small separate room leading to the bath room. To make it a quad, they put a rollaway at the foot of the big bed. You had to crawl over the rollaway to get to the big bed, and the door into the room wouldn't open all the way. The airconditioning was non-existant, and the tiny windows provided no cross ventilation. The piles of stairs to get in go staight up, wish I... more
Great Location
Stayed one night here and we had 3 rooms. I will tell about each. 1st room Triple with canel view - Large room, good bathroom, and view was wonderful. Hotel has a website with camera for view. It was noise at night and early in morning with traffic on canel and restraunts below. Also the breakfast room right out the door. All in all - would have again. 2nd - Double room- nice size, large bathroom. no complaints. 3rd - top floor- Our 13 year old twins stayed here and it was perfect for them. Be warned that the room is... more
Loved Locanda Sturion
Okay- so you must walk up four flights of stairs, but cut them some slack- they've been a hotel since 1328. The location is so convenient. Loved the breakfast room and the breakfast. Had a triple room with no view, but such ambience!
Fab Grand Canal Hotel -- Locanda Sturion
Had a marvellous stay at the Locanda Sturion right next to the Rialto Bridge 14 July. The reception staff are extremely helpful and willing to look after bags until your evening flight. The room for four overlooked a sea of Venetian rooftops. The shower room was extremely clean and obviously newly refurbished. Breakfast in the room overlooking the Grand Canal was much better than expected -- fruit, cereal, croissants, yogurt, juices., something for everyone even fussy nine-year-old twins! All in all, to be highly recommended and very... more
Recent trip to Venice, Rialto
Just back from Venice. The previous reviews were very helpful! We were forewarned (internet reviews - not by the hotel) of the 69 steep stairs up to the hotel with no lift or porterage - only for the able-bodied with light luggage. Our triple room was very spacious, clean and our view onto the Grand Canale and Rialto Bridge was spectacular. Our room (with view) and the double (with view) opened directly into the breakfast room. Sometimes this proved to be a problem as the night staff laid out all the tables around midnight and... more
A crsoss between an English boarding house and a Chinese restaurant
The room was tiny and dark, with one small window opening onto a narrow alley. The walls were covered in red fabric. There was one small armoire, and a small desk with a tiny television on it. There were no drawers to put our clothing, so we lived out of our suitcase, which was perched a chair. The overall effect was of a cross between an English boarding house and a Chinese restaurant. The stairs were a formidable challenge, especially when arriving with luggage. My husband is nearly 80 years old but,... more
In the heart of Venice
We (family of four) loved it. We loved the location, and the personal friendly nature of the hotel. A small 11 roomed hotel, make sure you book the front room looking out onto the Grand Canal and Rialto bridge. You can hear all the budding Pavaraottis below as you fall asleep!
Great Location
Stayed here with my daughters and found it clean, staff very friendly. Great location overlooking the Rialto. Only drawback - four flights of stairs to climb with your luggage.
