" An honest review... we loved it "

We went as a group of 16.. 10 girls and 6 boys (age 18 and 19) to Santa Maria apartments/hotel. We chose costa adeje due to the good reviews from friends, plus the added bonus of it being cheaper than las americas!

Most of the other reviews complain about the hotel, cleanliness, location and so on... to be honest you get what you pay for. I think we paid around £270 each and it was well spent, we were surprised at how nice it was!
Location
In costa adeje, a town about a 20min walk from playa las americas, or a 5min taxi journey (around 4euros). The beach and promenade are just down the hill from the hotel, easy to get to! There are lots of varying price restaurants in close proximity to the hotel, as are shops (Mango outlet for example!). In terms of the views, from the front of hotel is a great view of the volcano, from the back of the hotel, where the pool is, you can see the sea.
The hotel and rooms
Lovely! Very clean, modern and all rooms have big balconys! The staff are really nice, especially one of the male receptionists! Just make sure to keep your room in a tidyish condition, we didnt and the maids refused to clean our rooms for a couple of days! Apart from that, there were no problems!
The Pool Area
Childrens pool and a big pool, both were always clean! As the main pool was pretty big, there was always room for diving, playing ball games and rubber tyres without getting in anyone elses way.
The pool area was huge! As with all package holidays you have to get up before 9ish to get a sun lounger but by about 12ish there were always free loungers! There are quite a few trees around the pool for shade, along with umbrellas.
The pool bar was quite cheap, it sold stuff like chips, pizza (amazing!), alcohol, cocktails, slush puppies, ice lollies... the usual!
General bits and bobs
Might as well give you one of our average days, it might help!
Up at 11ish and down to pool (easy enough to get loungers, mostly families and couples around then). At 2ish we would go to supermarket to get lunch (there are 2 supermarkets 2mins walk from the hotel, the underground one underneath the indian restaurant is far cheaper!). After lunch back down to the pool, then at 5ish back to rooms for naps! 7ish- restaurant for dinner (loads of restaurants around, cheap to medium expensive), after dinner back up to rooms to get ready to go out and pre drink). At 11ish/12ish get a taxi to las americas (taxi rank just out of the hotel and to the right, taxi to las americas around 4euros, 5min journey). In las americas there is a huge amount of clubs and bars, with reps offering cheap deals on drink!
Would arrive back to the hotel at 6ish, sleep to 11 and start all over again!
Things outside the hotel
Shopping in las americas/ los christianos
Watersports, around 50 euro each, worth it though!
Aqualand waterpark, 7euro taxi journey, defo one to visit!
Location is great for a cheap holiday for sun, beach, shopping and clubbing!

Advice: Its cheaper than las americas, very close to las americas but a much more pleasant, untacky place.

" Santa Maria "

My boyfriend and I have just got back from Santa Maria Apartments. We arrived on the 1st May 2009 and stayed for a week. We are still in two minds about it. First of all we were expecting this hotel was in Playas De Las Americas as that was what it said in all of our brochures. However we were in a small town called Torviscas. Nice enough but obviously not as big as Playas. The hotel itself was lovely, we were given a ground floor room at first, which we weren't happy with as we heard all about these thieves. The receptionist was lovely and swapped us into a 4th floor apartment. The pool and bar were lovely and the staff were very polite. However the hotel restaurant was poor, and we didnt think much of the ones outide the hotel either. There really wasn't much to do within the town, without doing the excursions. And most days we found ourselves bored. We most definately wont be returning.

" Basic but good "

My boyfriend and i arrived on 1st August 08 at the Santa Maria and stayed for 2 weeks. Overall the hotel itself was beautiful and kept very tidy. The rooms were basic and clean but the floor couldve been swept a little more, Though it was cleaned every day and new linen and towels were provided. One downside was the sunloungers at the pool as they were always reserved with towels by the time you woke up! And the bar was pretty expensive.
The hotel staff were not very friendly but the entertainer was very good and could speak in many languages.
The hotel overall is in an excellent location with shops and the beach just seconds away. Also lovely for walking. Beachfront restuarants are a must. Especially bahia beach. Watersports at torviscas beach are also good value for money.
We would definately return to Adeje but maybe try a different hotel as it would maybe be more suitable for familys.
PS. The submarine trip is great also!

Advice: Costa Adeje is beautiful. Something for everyone!

Activities: Bahia Beach Restuarant, Submarine trip, Loro Parque, Train around adeje!

" great vaule! "

Hi,
Not long back from Tenerife, me and my boyfriend had a brillian time!
Santa Maria is a lovely hotel! totally spotless!!!! didnt havent much dealings with the hotel staff atall, but they looked ok! haha
We never ate at the hotel, were told it was a bit pricey, and we did see that when we looked at the menu. We arent the kind that like to hang about hotels though, we love getting out and exploring. So many places to eat and drink at! you would never starve!!
The apartment we had was lovely! when we arrived though, there was a awful smell of smoke in our room! i honestly thought someone was still in there! and our frezzer was being defrosted, wet towels laying on the floor. but the cleaning girl came in not long after and was sorry for leaving it. no harm was done.
overall we would return!!! great postion for beach! resturants! shops etc...

Advice: i cant wait to go back!!!!

Activities: motown diner was a great place to eat! buy one meal, get one free!!!! fab food!!!

" santa maria "

WE go to this hotel every year for two weeks and find it very clean.Never had any problems and if we did it was always sorted out asap.
only problems i have seen are people putting towels over sun longers first thing on a morning despite signs saying not to. this included the british as well as the germans.
we did book breakfast last year for the first time but i would recommend checking the bread as it was green mouldy and italians and spanish were still toasting it as they did not see it.
The hill outside leading up from the road can be a bit tricky and difficult for those with walking difficulties.
First couple of weeks in may is mainly spanish weeks for the spanish pensioners and everything is geared for them in the hotel.
plenty of good entertainment just a stones throw away and some good clean bars not too far.
hotel takes your passport of you when you get there so they can scan it and you have a deposit to pay for the room and for the tv remote and the safe which is returned when you leave.
English tv was 1 euro per hour.
i would recomend getting a taxi from the airport as it is quicker and takes you to the door. coast was around 25 euros lat year.

Advice: watch out for pickpockets on the beach and in the bars. and dont take the scratch cards.

" Popular with burglars "

I chose the Santa Maria because it’s in a good location but noted that two reviewers had reported losses from ground floor rooms so I added a special requirement “high floor please”. On arrival I found I had been allocated a ground floor room and asked to be moved to a higher floor, even offering to pay extra, but was given a blunt “it’s not possible”.
I was careful about security but I’ve always assumed that thefts from hotel rooms took place when the occupants were out. Wrong! Woke up on the fifth day to find that the flimsy catch on the patio door had been sprung, the door was wide open and my wallet had gone. I have a habit of always leaving my wallet on the bedside table so in order to steal it, the cheeky thief must have approached to within a few inches while I slept.
I reported the theft to the receptionist who came out with a pre-recorded announcement :-“We are not responsible for items which have not been placed in the safe” She put me in touch with the police but from then on, the management took no further interest whatsoever and offered no apology.
The police were excellent and more forthcoming: - “We have many complaints of theft from people staying at this hotel”. They seemed to be genuinely concerned about the situation, took full details and gave me an official report.
There are plenty of hotels of this price and quality in Tenerife and I strongly recommend you choose a different one.

Advice: Best of the three conjoined resorts. (Cheapest as well !)

Activities: Walking between the three distinctly different areas, Costa Adeje, Americas & Los Christianos

" Loved it! "

Me and my boyfriends (then I was 17 and he was 18) went to the Santa Maria appartments in august 2008 and loved it! It was soooo clean and the rooms where huge. We got a studio appartments and it was actually massive and really clean. We had no problems with the staff or the accomadation. We enjoyed lounging by the pool during the day and going out to playa las americas at night. Going to playa las americas costs around 3-4 euros in a taxi and is brillant! Amy our lovely rep was brillant and organised many different nights out for us. If you are going to teneriffe you HAVE TO go to the medievil night no matter what age you are it is amazing! The only bad point I would say is that the beach is black sand which isnt ideal, but the whether is brillant and santa maria is A+++ with many shops, restaurants, bars and clubs just outside of it. Would deffo go back =)

Advice: Brillllllll

Activities: Aberdeen for food yummm, and tramps for a club

" good but not brilliant "

Me and my husband stayed at santa maria apartments for a week and we had a brilliant time and cant wait to go back....He is desperate to stay at the same hotel but im not as i found a few faults with it.
The room in general was brilliant i cannot fault it...there was always hot water..i saw 1 cockroach which has made a bed in my suitcase but its to be expected in tenerife...the balcony was good with a good view of the volcano...the pool was lovely and warm and there was good security....the room was cleaned 5 or 6 times in the week and towels changed so that was good and an extra bonus we left money and jewelery around the room (silly, i know) but nothing was ever taken.
the pool was always really busy which was dissapointing as i am allergic to beach sand so the pool was my only option but as there were never any available sunbeds after 10.00 it was a case of swimming and then going back onto our balcony to sunbathe.
The hotel entertainment had a good choice on every day of the week. We went to the bingo night once and wouldnt bother again...the caller had to say the number in 6 different languages so the game took forever...we paid 5 euro for a ticket each and when we won the full house we were really excited as we expected a good prize but were very dissapointed when we only got 7 euros back.
We never ate at the hotel but did drink at the pool side bar which charged 5 euro for a bottle of strongow whcih we paid 90 cents at the supermarket for.
The staff were not very polite at all. we had not been told we had to leave our room by 11 on the day we left so when me and my husband came down at half 12 we were given a load of abuse but if they dont tell you how do you know..she said i should have read the small brochure given to us by our rep but who wants to read when they are on holiday!!!
Its in a good location apart from the hill up to the entrance although there are steps part of the way. Its a 5 minute walk to the shops bars and restaurants and 2 minute walk to the beach.
I will definatly go back to that part of tenerife but not the same hotel but dont be put off by that its monstly just because of the sand allergy and crowded pool that puts me off.

" Great family holiday "

The Santa Maria apartments were lovely and in a good location, not far from anything burt reasonably quiet for putting children to bed. Although we did not join in with many of the activities, the poolside bar was very nice and the pool itself safe, with lifeguards on duty. Not far from beach for little ones either. Reception well staffed and very helpful.

" Great Hotel "

Stayed in April 08 and August 2008 with first choice and going back again in december booked this time independently, think it is a great aparthotel and well worth the money, great location, no complaints, three times there this year so that speaks for itself, also stayed at Riu Adeje Aparthotel and the Santiago IV which were great as well, but this Hotel is cheaper and very handy for everything.

" My boyfriend and I have just returned... "

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Santa Maria Aparthotel in Costa Adeje Tenerife, the hotel is in a good location close to all ammenities, there are several supermarkets close by however they are VERY expensive with the cost of a lettuce for example being over 4 euro's, however the hotel is also situated very close - 5 to 10 minute walk from all the resturants / bars in the main centre of the town where you can get reasonably priced meals, there are a good selection of resturants that cater for every taste, although Tenerife on the whole has become an expensive Island. Now on to the Hotel itself, I had requested an apartment on a higher floor with a pool or sea view, when we arrived the apartment we were allocated was on the ground floor and the balcony style terrace had a lovley view of a brick wall, we complained to the reception staff who moved us to another room on a higher floor with a view of other buildings - it was however a nice apartment with ample self catering facilities, there was also a lovley fan above the bed. There are televisions in the apartment that cost 1 euro for an hours use. The apartment however was only cleaned twice during our 10 day stay, the bed was only changed once and our towels also only changed once. The reception staff on the whole were rude, unhelpful and didn't speak very good english - with the exception of a couple who were really nice & helpful. The pool was very clean but it was small for the size of the hotel and volume of people and in my opionion the pool was really quite cold !! we did manage to get sun loungers everyday but if you want a good space you really need to be up early as a lot of people would reserve them with towels and then you would not see them there for most of the day, there were also a lot of cockroaches around the hotel in general - including 2 in our room !! Loro Park is a must and is really worth the money !!

" me and my boyfriend stayed at the... "

me and my boyfriend stayed at the santa maria last year. the hotel was clean and tidy, rooms cleaned frequently (almost everyday), no air con, the pool didnt open until about 10.00am, always enough sunbeds, the pool was really small nowhere near as big as it looks in the first choice brochure, food is very expensive and not very exciting! the entertainment was appauling!!! for example a parrot show?, old singer guy and bingo. the staff on reception were not friendly at all, the entertainment guy was great though. we saw the rep for first choice once i think n he was rubbish didnt tell us about any excursions or anything to do wasnt helpful at all. the location of the hotel was perfect, near the beach, pubs, bars etc not too far from veronicas. there is loads to do in playa da las americas: watersports, boat trips, waterparks etc. i found the shops rubbish just sold a load of crap basically.

i think the hotel would be good for older couples and maybe families with small children but i think they would just get bored, definately not suitable for young couples wanting good entertainment. although there are plenty of places outside the hotel with entertainment and stuff to do.

i wouldnt go back to playa da las americas its too tacky and not worth the money we paid at first choice what a rip off i definately wont be chosing them again either!

" Myself and my girlfriend, both 21,... "

Myself and my girlfriend, both 21, stayed in the santa maria for 2 weeks and we had a great holiday! There was so much to do in the evening and in the day. There were plenty of excursions in the day and we went to a place called loro parque!! It was a great day out but it was a 2 hour coach ride to the north of the island. the rooms in the santa maria were good! they had all you needed. the only problem was the ceiling fan was absolutely useless so we had to go and buy another fan for 15 euros. There is a bar along the seafront called the moonlight bar and it was a really good atmosphere! If you do go there look out for the comedy elvis. Very funny!! There were plenty of restaurants right near the apartments. the only problem was there is a big hill leading up to the santa maria, which after afew beers got a bit much. Would not suggest this place if you have walking difficulties! All in all a great holiday! Would definitely go back again!!!

" Myself and my boyfriend have just... "

Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from tenerife and had a really nice holiday. Firstly this hotel is in playa de las americas not costa adeje though is quite near the border. It is a 20 min walk into the main nightlife and 5 mins to the local pubs. The hotel was really nice the staff were really helpful to us and the maids were great coming to the room more or less every day! The only complaint i would make is no air con. This is not too big a problem but it can become warm. The hill which people say you have to walk up to the hotel is more like a slope and takes about 2 mins to walk up. There are a lot of touts everywhere if you just say no thanks they normally just leave you. First choice were not the best of operators and weren't helpful really. There was no rep on the coach taking you there and back and you had to rely upon the spanish bus driver to get you to your destination. All in all had a great time and would recommend it to all my friends. Great for families and couples not for groups of young people.

" I stayed at the Santa from 3-13... "

I stayed at the Santa from 3-13 August (10 days), I am fussy, and was very wary of other comments posted previously. But, we had a fantastic holiday and found the food to be good a lot of variety and found myself trying different types of food (very fussy eater)may I add.

The entrance to the hotel was spotless and the staff very helpfull the corridors stairwells
clean, Rooms very clean, towels and linen changed regular, maid service on a
daily basis also.
The hotel was mixed with the various cultures, but all very friendly, If you wanted a sun bed you had to get up before 9.00am (9.30am on a Wednesday as they cleaned the area thoroughly that morning) if you were late the beds were gone.

The nightlife was excellant, but must say the credit crunch was there to be seen as the once full streets in the evenings were not so crowded.

Touts on the street were the only pain but a polite no thank -you done the trick.

Best Act was Amy Whinehouse- Mike Carlton once again had us in stitches at the St Eugene bar, Chubby Brown was fantastic (not for kids) at the Rum Pot they sell Morgan's Spice and Taffy will give you a song.

Overall i would return to this Aparthotel and found my stay very pleasant indeed .
