Two great weeks here broken up by four-day Legend of the Yucatan tour, which was a huge highlight of our trip. OK first up - don't expect European five-star facilities, 'Mexican 5-star' is about on a par, rooms wise, with top standard self-catering accomodation in Greece or... more

What could be a terrific hotel is seriously marred by horrific management. Guest services is inept: not having a solid, fast reference for tour and golf prices, distances from hotel and updated availabilities. They need to waste tons of timing calling for everything.... more

Amazing holiday! Hotel was clean and tidy at all times. Staff very helpful and friendly. The food in the main restaurant changed every night on themes, although there were the standard pasta, chips, and salad every night for the unadventurous. The food in the beach bar was... more

My sister had already been to this hotel and recommended it, so we went on her reviews. We upgraded with First Choice to Premiere and it was the best thing we could have done, extra room, great food and attention all the way there. We arrived in Mexico to a massive storm,... more

Travelled as a party of 2 adults and 2 children and it was our first time to Mexico. Hotel is fantastic definitely worthy of its 5 * rating. We had 2 large king sized beds one for us and one for the kids and had plenty of room. The bathroom was very nice with a huge... more

Awesome!!
I stayed at the Carribean Village from August 24th until the 31st. The hotel is right on the beach, every room has an ocean view, the staff, especially the waiters and bartenders, are great. I will definately stay at this hotel when I return to Cancun. This trip was a present for my daughter's graduation from highschool but we will find a reason to go back probably in February sometime.
Our Experiance
Starting from our arrival to Mexico August 10, 2002. Had a 2 hour wait in line for customs. When finally through and stepped outside, had many people hounding you to ride in their taxi - $40 to Cancun. We were tired, Had my wife and 2 daughters ages 15 and 17, so we took a taxi. Should have walked outside and around the corner to where the shuttle buses were and could have got a taxi for $15, next time. Hotel was in good location, older so run down a little. Had 2 jr suits only 4 doors from each other, not real clean. The showers would go from scalding hot to freezing cold. Swimming pool was clean and had swim up bar. Staff was friendly and did a great job with the entertainment all day. Applied some pressure to get you on stage for the evening show, I had to embarrass myself for the Mr Allegro contest, but the girls found it very entertaining (glad someone did). Made it a habit to get to the show a few minutes after it started so wouldn't be pulled up on stage again. Food average - plenty of it. Drinks good, bartender tried getting us drunk at 10:00 in the morning - 2 tequela slammers, what a way to start the day. Wouldn't stay at this hotel again, for the price would go elsewhere.
This place is awesome
I read several of the other reviews saying that the Caribbean Village was a horrible place to stay, and I cannot agree with ANY of them. I am 18 years old, and went to Cancun last week (end of July) with one of my friends, my sister and one of her friends (both 20), and my parents. We were treated with respect and the staff was very helping and kind to us. Every morning we woke up and ate the buffet breakfast, which had a variety of foods and was delicious. We then went over to the pool and layed out, participated in the activities. We ate lunch at about 1, sometimes in the main restaurant, sometimes in the snack bar, and they also made great cheeseburgers right by the pool! We took a nap in our small but cozy room in the late afternoon, then went down to dinner. At 9:30 the amazing staff of activity directors performed an excellent show in their theater, and then went out to the clubs. It was the best time I have ever had on a vacation, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for FUN! If you want a glorious, quiet, relaxing hotel, however, spend your money elsewhere because we don't want to see you at the Caribbean VIllage.
You Must go To This Place!!
My husband (40) & I (30)returned from Caribbean Village only 2 days ago (5/8/02). I already want to go back. Of course you'll read reviews about how good the food, beach & weather was, but I wish to mention inparticular the entertainment & the sheer dedication of the entertainment staff. The entertainment started at 10.00 am with pool games, spanish lessons, aqua fitness, painting, music, dance lessons, cooking lessons, volleyball, water polo, name that tune & so many other things - too many to mention. There was something in the day for EVERY age group. Then at 3.15pm everyday all of the staff of the hotel (including the chef's in their Whites) do a welcome/ fun dance, difficult to describe - real fun to watch. The daytime fun finishes about 5.00pm, then on the evening the same entertainment staff put on a show (eg. Cats, Evita, Grease, comedy etc. Fantastic! Then the same entertainment staff are the ones that accommpany you to the nightclubs in Cancun (5 mins away) Free bus from the hotel @ 11.00 pm. (there is a disco at the hotel too) Then these people start again at 10.00 the next day. I think that the entertainment staff were the best feature of this hotel!. Not that anything else was poor but the entertainment staff made it for me. We had a fabulous time, I would recommend this hotel on the basis of the entertainment, location & the staff are the most genuine freindly helpful people you could ever wish to meet. Finally, we've been to lots of places & in some that we've been to you had to be very careful walking round either day or night (Eg. Parts of the Caribbean) but here in Cancun & Caribbean Village as a female I felf very very safe & comfortable, people left handbags & camcorders by their sun beds & no one touched anything. Final Note - DO NOT wear your room & safe key around your neck!!! - everyone does but we lost ours in the sea & had to pay $100 US to get the safe drilled open!!! Age Group - 1-80 Rooms - adequate Water - DO NOT DRINK!!!! Pool - Spacious Food - everything you could wish for!! Rating - Would go back tomorrow!!!! What we did - Swam with dolphins, Jungle tour, Snorkelling, Catamaran trip, Chichen Itza, Parasailing & loads more. Go TO This Hotel - YOU'LL Love it!!!
Very friendly staff!
We got back from staying at the Caribbean Village in mid-July. It's true, the rooms are small and the hotel is older, but it was VERY clean. The staff was the most friendly, hard working bunch I have ever seen. The food was fine!! No other complaints!
Caribbean Village
When I read the most recent reviews on travelers stay at the Caribbean Village, I wonder if we were at the same resort. The food is wonderful. However, the rooms are unfit for anyone to sleep in.
Caribbean Village
My husband (age 41- drinker), Daughters (14 & 5), myself (age 38- non drinker) sister & neice (34 non drinker & 8), just returned from our stay at the Caribbean Village Hotel in Cancun (June 28-July 3, 2002). I would like to give both the good and bad of this resort. Good...... The location is excellent. The layout of the pool with the sea serving as its backdrop is beautiful. The beach is easily accessible and beautiful. The kids had a wonderful time racing from the sea to the pool. The restaurants and food in all locations is very good. Especially the Cyclposy (not how it's spelled), its open, airy, nice, near the pool and bar. Because my husband is a drinker and the condition of our rooms, we spent a lot of time in this restaurant. Service was 50/50. One front desk staff member (didn't get his name) bent over backwards to help us. For example, I had requested adjoining rooms when I booked this trip. This guy worked dilligently with me to find two rooms next to one another. In the end, he gave us a Jr. Suite. No extra charge. Angel (waiter) is Awesome. The key is to tip them. The Bad...... As I stated, we requested adjoining rooms. Two front desk staff member didn't give a darn were we stayed. They didn't even bother to check their listing for vacant rooms. In fact, the room my husband was given had a connecting door. But the girls and I, were one door and a podium down. We were told to check with our Funjet Reps. I guess we did better than one couple from St. Louis. The husband & sons were placed on the 4th floor, while the wife & daughter were on the 1st. I'm not convinced that this was an impossible task, because the day after we checked in, 150 people checked out. The lobby is in need of ceiling fans. It was always hot, but clean. Restrooms in the lobby and pool areas weren't kept clean. The elevators were always filthy. Exit signs nor emergency signs from the upper floors are visibly marked. This was a major concern for my family safety. The rooms - Horrific, Awful, Gruesome, Disgusting... This was my opinion before I found a roach in my bath towel. We kept our shoes on at all times, including to shower. I base this on the fact that I stayed one night on the 1st floor (carpet filthy and torn)it should be condemned. Was offered rooms on the 3rd floor (these were worst). My sister stayed on the 6th floor (room was better). Was given a Jr. Suite (according to who's standard- not sure). What is the deal with the ceilings in the bathrooms? I read in someone's review that this hotel will be closing for 4 months to renovate the rooms. I believe it would be cheaper to tear it down and start over. Honestly..... In spite of the location and food, We will never- ever stay in this place again. My flesh crawls ever time I think of the bug in my bath towel.
Perfect!
I have just got back from the Caribbean Village, I spent a week there in the 1st week of june 2002 & I can honestly say it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I was a bit worried about the rooms as I'd read reviews on this site about the rooms in this hotel being old and run down and the food being crap but my room was great. The room was a nice size, very clean and comfortable, the only thing is the shower was a little old looking and the tile floor in the bathroom gets a bit slippery but the shower works great and we layed towels down on the floor so that was perfect. The service at the Caribbean Village is fantastic, the cleaner comes everyday, cleans up the room real well, we would leave the room looking like a real dump and the cleaner would tidy everything up real good, she gave us loads of towels everyday and cleaned the bathroom real well too. Everyone at the Caribbean village is VERY VERY VERY welcoming! the cleaners, the restaurant people, the security people and thats another thing security at this hotel is great..you will never feel unsafe here, security is 24-7. The food in the restaurants is real good, we ate a lot at the mexican and the waiters & manager are the most friendliest people I ever met..very welcoming and they do fantastic margueritas!! the italian restaurant is ok..not very laid back like the mexican..the food is good though. Didnt get a chance to eat at the brazillian. The breakfast buffet is the BEST don't miss it, it closes at 10.30am sop make sure u r up in time for brekky..really is the best, they give u a massive variety of stuff, cereal, toast, french toast omlette, egg, bacon, hash brown, mexican stuff, bread roles, croissants, yogurt..u name it, they serve it. I would definately reccomend this hotel for party people..this hotel is packed full of young crazy party people, its an excellent location and caters very well for the young crowd, there's always fun stuff going on at the poolside all day long. I had THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE out there...the hotel was the b of the week and I found out that the hotel is closing in August for 4 months as they are rennovating the rooms so thats a bonus too. This hotel is an extremly pretty, welcoming and friendly place..I would most definatly return to it.
Great place to stay for a great price!
My boyfriend and I just got back from a trip to Cancun and had a wonderful stay and Caribbean Village Cancun! All of the staff was very friendly and courteous! The food was really pretty good considering we were in a foreign country! The Brazilian and Mexican restaurant were really great too! The water and ice is purified and tasted just like bottled water. Niether of us got sick! Get ready to have lots of fun at the hotel since there is always something going on at the pool or on the beach! I'd definitely recommend this place!
Happy to report a wonderful stay
After reading these reviews I was not sure what to expect at Caribbean Village but we got a great price and decided to take our chances. I figured the food would be bad and everything else middling to fine. Well, my husband (34) and I (27) stayed 4 days at this resort last weekend and had a great time. NO complaints, and I have done a lot of traveling and stayed in all levels of hotels. The staff was never anything but smiling and helpful. The food was great, especially at the Mexican and Brazilian restaurants. Heard the Italian was so-so, both in reviews and from people during our stay. The buffet had so many choices that if you think it's ALL gross you are even pickier than ME. The beach was beautiful and clean except for cigarette butts near the umbrellas left by inconsiderate smokers. The pool was clean, large, and had a swim-up bar which we really enjoyed! The drinks were often strong (without tipping--we only tipped at the end of the day, since we would stick to the same bartender). The beer is draft, but add a little lime and it's tasty. Our room, a standard oceanview, was clean and neat. I was happy to see a box spring instead of the concrete block that is standard in many Mexican hotels. We rented a room safe for $3 a day. No mini-fridge, which would have been nice, but we survived just fine without it. I'd rate it as an American Marriott--not the ritziest, but clean, and with good food, drinks and service.
