Hi, me and 2 friends returned from...

Sep 2007, Miss T Shaw

Hi, me and 2 friends returned from Oasis Dunas after a 2 week holiday at the beginning of September. I also read the reviews after booking our holiday and was quite scared at what to expect when we arrived.
We arrived at about 9:30pm after a good flight and transfer time, check in was quick and we were given a map showing where our apartment was. Although it was dark we managed to find our apartment quite easily.
At first look our apartment was clean, tidy but some sockets were hanging out of the wall. It was very basic but we knew that when we booked the holiday. The hobs however did not have any markings on them so we had to guess what heat we had them on.
After our first week we had to move apartments due to a burst pipe in the apartment above ours, which was not ideal but new apartment was also clean, but was a lot smaller. We found reception staff very helpful in dealing with the burst pipe and did not get much help from our rep when we went to him.
The entertainment was really good and enjoyed the shows the reps did. There was plenty for the kids to do during the day with kids clubs and daytime activities planned.
The sunbeds around the pool do get reserved very early in the morning but didn't really bother us because we tended to go in the afternoon and could normally find 3 sunbeds by then.
Would def recommend going to Oasis Park, was a brill day out and very cheap because trip includes lunch, which was hot and cold food and plenty of it! You must also ride the camels while there, was a great experience. Also the rep show on a Sunday evening was brilliant and def worth going to. Also got a 3 course meal and drinks included in the price.
Food on the complex was cheap but basic, normally ate out in town most evenings because was so cheap. The supermarket in the complex was well stocked and not to expensive. We also found the netto supermarket near by which was very well stocked and a bit cheaper, just beware do not buy the Kingsmill bread, we bought a loaf and when we went to use it the next morning it was green with mould all the way through!
Apart from that had a really good holiday, weather was brilliant and would def go back again, but may stay in different accommodation.

We (me, my wife and son 2yrs) stayed...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr A Davidson

We (me, my wife and son 2yrs) stayed at the oasis Dunas between 5th - 19th September.
This was our 3rd stay at the apartments so we knew exactly what we were getting. My wife had emailed the apartments beforehand to ask for a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom apartment but we were told we would have to pay 23 Euros a night.
When we checked in at 22.00 with what seemed like half of the other people from the plane the man behind the reception asked if we would still like the 2 bedroom apartment, we said we didn't want to pay the extra but he gave us the room anyway.
We stayed in room C401 which was on the far side of the complex away from the entertainment area which could be quite noisy.
The apartment was clean and basic with enough utensils in the kitchen area. The TV channels have to pay for though. The apartments are very hot during the day and at night time it is very difficult to sleep. You can hire fans from the reception for about 12 Euros a week but having stayed there before we knew that you can purchase the same fans on the high street for about 18 Euros (if staying for 2 weeks).
The pools were very clean but the salt water could sting quite a bit .The pools get painted in October thus reducing the terrace area(beware). Some people were reserving sunbeds in the morning but this seemed unnecessary as there were plenty of beds .
There was always something going on for the children with the entertainment staff.
This is a very family friendly apartment so it was quite amusing to hear some of the older couples moaning about kids running around and splashing in the pools.
Night time entertainment varied from singing and dancing to karaoke to Mr. and Mrs. Dunas .The entertainment staff were brilliant with the kids
Corralejo high street itself could do with a bit of a scrub. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, poco loco was the pick of the steak houses for me though. The fish restaurants in the old town overlooking the beach were excellent and very good value for money.
The restaurants in the plaza centre were rubbish, we had a meal at the Mexican restaurant in the end could have been a Chinese meal (beef fajitas with bean sprouts and stir fry veg!).

Sep 2007, Mr L PERCY

This was our second visit to the Oasis Dunas with our 2 children. A wonderful time was had again. With the apartments you pay for what you get. They are a base to sleep in, make snacks and get washed and changed.
All the complaints about shabby apartments are nonsense. They are clean; you are not going to get the Hilton. The My travel staff are second to none, the children’s club especially.
The entertainment staff do what they can and the kids love them especially Danny Hunter who to say it is his first season is a pro already.
The pools are clean although cold but that’s just what you need when the temp is hitting mid 90's.
The restaurants in Corralejo are fantastic; we visited the Plaza quite often the Italian and the Steak House.
Our best meal was near the harbour at a place called something like al Bernabio's . The Steaks were out of this world. We won't be going back to Corralejo in the near future basically because its time to see a different part of the world but the place and the people has left us with fantastic memories.

Just come back from Oasis Dunas...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr R Dexter

Just come back from Oasis Dunas Corralejo with my girlfriend. Both in our twenties.
We wanted a bit of sun and a nice beach, relaxation and some restaurants in the evenings and that’s what we got.
The apartments were an ok size with enough crockery and cutlery for making snacks etc and a fridge and hob. Our apartment was away from the main bit so no loud children to annoy us.
The apartments were cleaned almost everyday and fresh towels were provided. There is a small shop on site that is well stocked for water, beer, croissants, sandwich stuff and there is a big netto about five minutes walk away for a cheaper and bigger selection.
Corralejo has a wide selection of restaurants, Spanish ones selling fish and paella near the harbour and Chinese, Indian, steak houses, a flambé restaurant in the music square and basically loads dotted around, main course priced from 8-12 euros generally.
There are a few people stood outside the restaurants trying to get you in but are generally friendly and not to pushy apart from one guy who followed me down the street going on about cooking steaks in a metal sombrero hat - to be fair I liked the sound of that and we went a couple of nights later!
In reference to other visitors comments I did not think Corralejo was grubby, there is no litter or day after the night before leftovers that you would get in the centre of Las Americas in Tenerife for example.
Beaches - 2 or 3 in the town centre small but convenient. From just over the road from oasis dunas you can get a bus (no.6) to flag beach (buses come every half an hour and takes about ten mins to get there) - this is a huge beach with fairly good waves, nice sand and turquoise looking water lots of sun loungers for hire (9 euros for two) with brolleys attached. I would recommend going.
The breeze is deceptive as I got burnt without noticing.
Mosquitoes - couple of bites in a week, repellent wipes or spray and one of those plug in things seemed to keep them at bay.
On a random note - all cars stop for you at zebra crossings - not like in England where drivers pretend to not have seen you.
All in all it was great.

The official rating for these...
6 / 10
Sep 2007, Mrs D Simpson

The official rating for these apartments is 2 star - why do you see '3 stars' everywhere?
And don’t be taken in by the photos you see in the adverts - these show only the 'A' apartments by the pool. We went on a package with MyTravel and were stuck in an awful 'C' apartment - not nearly so photogenic - and not surprisingly not shown in the adverts.
The youngest kids seemed to love it here but there is not much for teenagers.
The publicity makes a big thing out of the tennis, basketball & beach ball courts but when we were there they were badly maintained & vandalised.
We did manage to play tennis but first had to clear the court of rubble, broken glass, bored kids playing football, and then had to repair the net ! The pool looks good - but was salt-water & cold - but because of this you could have it virtually to yourself much of the time.
Corralejo is fairly laid-back and you don’t get too badly hassled but it doesn’t have much else going for it. The 'old town' was particularly disappointing and is nothing more than a collection of dodgy-looking restaurants.
We tried a couple but the service was so bad and the food very iffy so we stuck to self-catering - which was limited due to the poorly equipped apartments - but the supermarkets were ok. The supermarket in the complex was actually not bad. Unfortunately the best supermarket is a bit of a hike from the apartments.
If a Butlins holiday camp atmosphere appeals to you, and you have young children, this is the place to go. At least we didn’t have to put up with UK weather.

Having just read a review I'm...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss M Forster

Having just read a review I'm starting to wonder if we were staying at the same place? The Oasis Dunas was superb! We travelled in a group of 9, myself, partner, sister, hubby & 5 kids aged 11, 9, 6, 5 & 3. So it was all about a family holiday as you can see.
We had a 2 bed apartment; my sister had a 1 bed next to us. They were spacious, adequate for our needs and immaculately clean. The cleaners kept it this way throughout our holiday, changing towels etc every other day.
The pools were amazing. We tended to stay by our favourite one as it had a shallow area for the children. Yes the pools are salt water, but very clean & very refreshing when it got too hot. The pool side bar was quite expensive but did very nice food. I do agree with the comment about the sun loungers, plenty of them but most reserved by 8am. As there was a 'no reserving' rule, if when we came down, they were all covered but had no owners, we would give them 15 mins & if they didn't show we had them, as did a few other guests.
The food on site isn't the best but ok if you didn't want to venture out. The evening entertainment is the usual 'cheesy' cliché, but we love it. As most parents would agree, if the kids are happy - so are we. Kid’s reps were great & there was something for everybody in the evening. We found some lovely restaurants; Slow Boat II a favourite. Also Tony Roma's is a nice place to eat. The kids liked the food & the staff were very family friendly.
There are some great excursions; we would recommend Oasis Park & the trip to Timanfaya National Park. We found a lovely little beach just off the strip by a restaurant called Waikiki's. The bigger children went snorkeling here & were amazed by all the fish.
All in all we had a fabulous holiday & would recommend it. We will definitely be going back one day. Everybody’s taste in life is different; all I would say is please don't be put off by the negative comments. Try it for yourselves. We had the best 2 weeks!

Where do I start? Well when I read...
2 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss E Tildesley

Where do I start? Well when I read the reviews I was a little worried about our chosen resort but decided we would have a great time time no matter what.
We have stayed in all kinds of resorts, self catering to 5*, and have always preferred the freedom of self catering. There were five of us in our group myself, partner and child and my parents. When we arrived (which was quite late at night) we checked in which was quick and painless and went to find our room; now you can not find where you are meant to be in the daylight, at night it is impossible. When we got to our room we had a huge shock, first of all the apartment was tiny, dirty and full of ants, the fridge did not work. There were no doorknobs on the wardrobe so it could not be opened, the plug sockets were hanging out of the walls, the furniture was old and broken. We were on the ground floor and at no time of day did any light come through the apartment; it was so dark and dingy, the patio area was not secure at all and backed on to a main road and had a mobile phone mast in it.
The bathroom was so dirty and the door handle did not work and my partner got locked in there. So we went to use the phone to call reception it didn’t work (surprise surprise) so my partner walked over there to be told we could not be moved till Saturday (we arrived Thursday morning) but that maintenance would come and fix the problems in the morning. We used our mobile to call the tour operator who was very unhelpful and told us she would come and see us at 9 in the morning she did not turn up so we had to go and hunt her down. Meanwhile my parents who had no child were given a first floor room by reception, new, light and airy with a secure balcony and facilities that worked, we were livid! After deciding my son should stay with them until we got moved, we had to live out our suitcases for the next 2 days with the ants and the problems that maintenance never came to fix.
When Saturday came we were grudgingly moved to the room underneath my parents, which was better. A safe which you need costs 40 euros, and there is no aircon so be prepared to sweat a lot in the rooms.
The pools are a great size but are salt water and really hurt your eyes they are also filthy on two occasions somebody had poohed in the pool and on another some louts had thrown in glass bottles, really unsafe for children. If you want a sunlounger you better be prepared to get up at 7 to get some there is a rule you cant reserve sun loungers but it is not adhered to there were people sitting on the floor because there is not enough longers and there is no shade you have to buy a brolly which you badly need.
The food at the hotel - ok, not great not bad just average
The staff - very unhelpfull
The resort itself - rubbish the main strip even has lots of english pubs called things like the underground, the restaurants there all serve the same basic menu not much choice across the resort, and the wiakiki oh my god the service is appalling.
in a nutshell this was the most expensive holiday to blackpool i have ever been on and that is exactly what its like if you like blackpool you will love it if your looking for a picturesque, tranquil island go to the other side, jandia. Corralejo is not waht its made out to be. The only good thing about this place is the weather and take heed when people say you will burn because you will. I only ever start with factor 8, even in egypt, and dont burn i was using 20 here and burnt. my son burnt through factor 30 and had to use 45.

Sep 2007, Mr M Wiggins

Hotel was of a good standard and the rooms were basic but adequate for the needs of a family. The two bedrooms we had were adequate for us and 3 children.
You do need to pay for the extras such as the television, the safe, and a fan as there is no air conditioning and it does get very warm in the night.
The pools were excellent with a lot of room for loungers. They tell you not to reserve sunbeds but everyone does. The 3 pools are big and there are plenty of areas for young children which are shallow. The depth on the pool is clearly marked. The water is cold but once you get in you get used to it.
The BEST thing about the hotel has to be the family first entertainment team. They have activities through the day which include both children and their parents and the night time activity fully involves the children.
There are a few shows during the evening which the kids get involved in (such as grease) and we had a parrot show, a magical show, and a snake show on other nights. There is a mini disco every night which my kids enjoyed. The children’s reps were very helpful as well, friendly, and looking out for the kids all the time.
The area of Corralejo is okay for food but the restaurants are spread out so you will need to walk around. One area on the left hand side of the main road just after Netto has a courtyard with a Mexican restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, a steak house, a British pub, an Italian restaurant, and a Japanese restaurant. There is also a play area for children where you can see the kids playing whilst you eat if they want to.
Overall, a good holiday and I would go back to the oasis Dunas mainly for the children’s entertainment.

Aug 2007, Mrs S Greaves

On checking in first impressions was good, until we got to our apartments. Very Basic and shabby with a rusty fridge and grotty furniture.
We did have maid service most days but they just made up our beds, towel/linen was changed once. Our Apartment could have done with a good sweep through but as there were no brushes for us to use it was inevitable that we would get ants, and in my sisters case (who was next door) cockroaches.
The pool area was lovely but again lots of ants (due to people eating and dropping left over’s). For 5 days we stayed by the pool area as we found it so relaxing when we eventually got a sunbed, as people reserve them by putting towels on them from 6 o'clock in the morning. Luckily the management don’t take kindly to this and will tell you that if after 10 mins no one comes to sit on them then you can remove the towels.
This we did every morning as some people where not using them until well after 3 o clock which is so unfair. Entertainment for adults and children were good, and it was nice to come back after our evening meal to wind down with a drink and watch a show.
This is a good family complex but due to the state of the Apts it doesn’t live up to a 3 star rating.

We have just come back from the Oasis...

Aug 2007, saffron

We have just come back from the Oasis Dunas. I would agree partly with some of the comments I saw here before we went.
It is very basic, when we first arrived I thought it looked very grotty, and yes you do need a torch to find the apartment it’s so confusing if you arrive at night.
But, I would also add that the room was cleaned to a very high standard and the towels were changed every other day.
We did not stay at the hotel much as we had family in the Oasis Papagayo 10 minutes walk away and so we stayed with them in the day, as stated with another review there are no umbrellas or very little shade and as I have just finished chemo I need to keep myself under an umbrella.
On the last day though we stayed around our hotel and I was very impressed with the entertainment for the younger children and the staff were brilliant with them - we wished that we could have stayed another week at our hotel as we didn’t realise it had so many pools.
At the moment out there (15 Aug 07) it is very very hot - I was using factor 30 and stayed out of the sun as much as I could and I burnt very badly and had to go to the local hospital, so please be warned as lots of children were also burned - as there is a slight breeze you cant tell that its affecting you so much.
I would recommend the Oasis Dunas - like I said it is very basic but has a great family atmosphere about it - I’ve been looking at booking again in October.

I went to the Oasis Dunas Aparthotel...

Aug 2007, Miss EJ Price

I went to the Oasis Dunas Aparthotel in Corralejo on the 18th of July 2007 with my parents. (I am 15). In all we had a brilliant holiday and would definitely go back again in the near future.
As we went self catering we tried many of the local restaurants and have many recommendations. The best Chinese had to be Slow Boat 2 as unlike many of the other Chinese restaurants it was not based around buffet food and all meals were cooked fresh.
Also another great restaurant is 5th Avenue, this is a type of bistro, fusion style restaurant; with a very good range of meals, and the baileys cheesecake was superb.
For Spanish cuisine I would recommend La Taberna as it has lovely paella and fresh, homemade sangria.
We did not stay much around the pool as it was full of screaming children and many people filled it out with inflatables. The beach on the resort is nice yet the beach by the sand dunes (you can catch the bus or a taxi here for around 4 Euros) is stunning waves and sands.
One problem was the lack of air conditioning in the room, as mosquitoes flew the windows.
Recommended to anyone looking for a great holiday yet remember to bring the insect repellent!

Just arrived back, and we as a family...

Jul 2007, Mr Db Boyle

Just arrived back, and we as a family feel the need to let other families know about this resort, there is no shade for the children, so buy umbrella. The temp were 103 deg c and the wrong type of trees grown, no shade.
It’s a salt water pool, so take goggles, and even the water park is all salt water.
Apartments are very basic; they are cleaned but very basic. The supermarket at resort very expensive.
The entrance to all the pools are very slippy, you have been warned. The pools are in need of painting, very grubby.
Everything you need to hire inc the TV Channels for the kids. This is an island with no info-structure so they are looking to make as much from you as possible.
