CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

The two of us spent Christmas and New Year 2008/2009 at the Oasis Dunas in Block B5. The apartments were basic but scrupulously clean. The pool area is beginning to look in need of a freshen up, but we had no trouble getting a sunbed. The staff are very friendly and helpful, any request was completed inside of an hour. The weather was mixed, but very hot when the sun was out. You need a jacket/cardigan for the evening as the resort is breezy - ideal for wind based sports.
Corralejo is a nice little town, but is limited in attractions. There are only so many times you can walk the town and harbour, but it is ideal for chilling out. There is, however, a lack of markets on the island and those locally do not offer very much variety for sale.
Due to the exchange rate on the euro at 98 cents for £1,we found things very expensive to what we have been used to. More people walking round with supermarket shopping bags than gift bags! One English breakfast for two people with an extra coffee each came to £17 or 17 euros. We were self-catering and managed a few good meals on two rings!!
There is only one fault with this complex and that is the thin walls. Every utterance and bodily function can be heard. Definitely needs sound-proofing.
All in all we had a nice relaxing time. Fuerteventura is not for us, however, Gran Canaria or Lanzarote are preferable, although a day return trip to Lanzarote, just 14 miles by sea is available at 20 euro per person.

We stayed here for christmas and new year in a 1 bedroomed apartment, it was very basic with only 2 rings, a kettle and a toaster. Beware, if you want a microwave, to use the iron or the ironing board or to watch the tv they charge. The TV for example was 44 euros for a 2 week stay, we passed on that, there seemed to be a hire charge for everthing, however it was clean and tidy and staff where lovely and helpful, we had 2 great reps Matt and Laura, all the Thomas Cook staff in the hotel were polite and firendly.
If you want to go on the trips, Catlanza, a catermaran was fab, Fuerte night live was a good fun (we had a bad food experience which was resolved by our rep) but you can op out of the food, Patricia(a Thomas Cook supervisor) is very prickly when you complain, but we just ignored her and she in no way spoilt our night. We did the 1 1/2 hour express to the south of the Island, beach was lovely but it took more like 2 1/2 hours once you had done all the pick ups. We also did the Lanzarote trip, you wont miss much if you decide not to go on it I wouldn't recommend it.
Baku water park is right in front of the hotel entrance, and it looks good fun, however it is not open from Oct to Mar which was a bit of a bummer.
The pools at the hotel were ok, but cold however it didn't seem to put any of the children staying at the hotel off.
You will not be short of places to eat or drink, however like any large resort it caters for the majority and you wont find many places serving 'local canarian food'. Angles do a fantastic breakfast if you cant live without your fry up, and the best chinese to eat in is the 3rd one down on the right hand side. All the places we ate were good, especially the cherry tree opposite El Camparnaro.
Flag beach is by far the best beach, its a 20 min stroll from the hotel.
We had a good 2 weeks, take some jumpers for the evening its gets chilly.

  • Advice: Take hoodies/jackets for the evening
  • Activities: The Cherry Tree (fab crimbo dinner). Trip - Catlanza

Before I start I must admit that I have enjoyed the holiday itself but not the hotel. Before even arriving the hotel the bus driver who was supose to drive us to the hotel had a strank because th bus wasn't his.Wasn't that a good start, making us wait for hours. We were a family including children and when we arrived, everything seemed fine.We didnt bother to sign the children into clubs because we knew they wouldn't like being without their parents. There are safe's in each appartment but you had to pay to keep your belongings there. The next day on our holiday,we decided to use it,that very day,it broke. Our head of reps was called Marco and he told all of us if there ever was a problem,we should go up to him and he would sort it all out.So we did.He told us that it was nothing to do with him and that we should contact someone at the reception. That was difficult to do thinking that all the receptionists were spanish!Thankfully we got someone to fix it.Every night there would be entertainment outside which began with children disco and the reps in charge would chose a couple of children to go on stage. Our children never got the chance whilst some children got to go on the stage several times. This was because we didnt sign our children to kids club.We were on one of the bottom appartments,so we had a little garden,a coulpe of days after we arrived we went into the garden and the handle on the sliding door broke. We once again went up to Marco but he told us it was not his problem, and to once again contact the reception.
In our garden were 4 plastic garden chairs. Before we even arrived one of them was broke and they hadn't bothered changing it.So for the third time we went up to Marco, and as you'd expect he didn't help us.Marco in our opinion is an ignorant self-centered man.The day when we left, they kicked us out of our appartment before noon so that they could put other guests there. But our bus didn't leave the hotle and go to the airport until 7.00pm.So we had to sit outside the hotel for 7 hours.None of the reps helped you unless you joined their clubs. The day before we left a woman who was always the centre of attention every night and who also arrived the same time as us fell down the stairs of her appartment and broke her leg in several places and needed operation. So on our last day, when we were waiting for the bus to go home, the bus finally arrived but the reps made us wait another hour whilst they let the woman and her family go first on the bus,and they also let them stay at their appartment until the bus arrived unlike al the other guests. After arriving in the airport and the plane had arrived, and we were ready to leave and some had been queuing for long so the would be the first on the plane, the reps pushed everyone to the back so that the woman and her family could go through without any problems and they also put her in first class! It's obviously to stop her from suing the hotel. It shows how horrid the hotel can be if you don't do stuf the way they want you to.So if you've already paid to got there and you are a family including children, then I sugest you sign them for kids club other wise they'll look at you like dirt.Or if you do not have any children then I suggest you volenteer to go on stage once in a while for fun.Otherwise you'll have a horrible holiday like us.And here's a tip,if there's any problems don't think it will be helpfull to contact MARCO.

  • Advice: It's a nice place many Netto's if you're a self catering. The sea is far so you must travel by bus.
  • Activities: There was not much there.Only one very busy and expensive aquapark.

I was very disappointed with the apartment. The bathroom had cockroaches in every evening and our bedroom did not seem that clean. The pools were absolutely freezing. The majority of staff were very nice and helpful. The food I must say was absolutely excellent, both at breakfast time and in the evening. The chef/s worked extremely hard and the food was always fresh.
I would not want to go back to these apartments again although I would love to go back for their food!

  • Advice: Very pleasant.
  • Activities: The dunes and also a day at Lanzarote.

My boyfriend and i are just back from a week spent at the oasis dunas. i have to say the complex is gorge.. the pools are huge and clean!! and it is most definitly suited for all ages, however i think corrajeco overall is direced towards families... the staff seemed friendly and trustworthy (and believe me, im wary of people..),there is a restaurant and bar as part of the complex. we ate in the restaurant one evening - the waiters were really friendly - burgers = good . pizzas = too thin. didnt go to the bar. its 2euro per game of pool in the complex, however i beliee there are pool tables down the strip which only charge 1euro. it all adds up.... pool side bar food wasnt great for the price - however edible. the maids cleaned daily - did the usual dressing of beds etc etc.. the only flaw i had with the complex was the stairs - if booking and disabled/ unable to climb stairs etc be sure to tell the tour operater or whatever, as there are two levels, and no lifts... oh and the supermarket there is much more expensive than others in the vicinity.
we went the week before xmas which was quiet almost too quiet... unfortunately the weather wasnt as nice as we had hoped, it was quite breezy - i would definitly recommend bringing jackets/ few pair of trousers. it is definitly as i said suited towards families and couples of all ages, and maybe groups in the summer.
i didnt find corrajelo to be chepast in comparison to puerto rico and playa del ingles in gran canaria. food wise - i think puerto rico was defo cheaper. there werent any alcohol promotions either, but this ws probly due to the time of year etc..
we went to the market on fri (between 9 and 1 i think , up beside the water park). good range of things, the usual bargaining. i found it hard to haggle with the staff in the perfume shops however. the water park was closed - as its apparently too cold to open it.
we went on the catlanza trip - GO its worth it. 56 each includes a trip to coast of lanzorote where you get a jeet ski ride, swim in the ocean, snorkle, meal aka pasta with tuna and tomato sauce, baby potatoes, bread, salad, and the dressings like parmesan cheese, garlic, etc etc... and all the drink you want both soft drinks and alcohol. its not booze cruise or anything like that - its suited to all ages - provided you are intersted in swimming or even just the scenary..
overall, a great relaxing ho .however if going agin i wouldnt go before xmas due to weather, but would 100% stay at the oasis dunas again.we went to a beautiful restaurant called La Mama - an Italian off the street to the left after the San Miguel restaurant. out off the 5 places we went it was definitly the best for quaity and price! :)

Oasis Dunas, Furteventura

Oct 2008, c.croydon@ntlworld.com

We have recently returned from the Oasis Dunas and have to say had a great time. My husband, three children (11, 9 and 4) and myself stayed in a two bedroom ground floor apartment. The apartments were basic but clean and the maids cleaned made the beds, changed towels etc regularly. After reading reviews before departing to furteventura I have to say I was a little concerned but was plesently surprised upon arrival. The pools were cleaned daily, the evening entertainment was good and the kids loved it. The food on site was great with a large choice from the buffet, again perfect for the kids as they could pick and choose as they liked. Oasis Dunas was perfectly situated and was in easy walking distance of a wide selection of resturants, beaches, shops etc. We would definately consider going again.

I was very apprehensive about comin to these apartments after reading some peoples reviews, but when we arrived it was fine , arrived late at night, the lightning was poor around the complex but found our room no problem.
Our room A318 was great very clean everything you would want overlooking the pool good balcony and furnishings. Maid in 5 times a week and towels and linen changed once in our 1 week of being there.
pools were excellent, our little girl 3year old loved the baby pool where she could play all day on her own as it was only up to her knees.
Entertainment was excellent the reps worked really hard and were very cheery happy people especially Sarah and Scott
To sum it up a very enjoyable holiday for the money we only pais £700 would go back

I knew from the price that this hotel wasn't going to be fantastic but I was pleased with what we got. It only takes 35 minutes by coach to get to this hotel. Check-in was simple and quick. We had room A218 and it had a really good view of the pools. The room was quite big and had everything you need for self-catering, although a microwave would have been useful. You have to pay for the tv, so didn't use this (we took our portable dvd player and plugged it in). The rooms are good sized but in desperate need of re-decorating. You have your own water boiler so remember not to use all the water, so that your partner doesn't have any!! I think they should change the couches as they are made from fabric and smelled and this gave me the "heeby cheebys", as you don't know what naked person has sat on it!!! We didn't get maid service every day and we went without clean towels for 3 days. Our phone didn't work, reported it but it wasn't repaired. The pools are really big but cold and, again, in need of maintenance and upgrading. The pool bar and bars and restaurants are very overpriced. You should buy tins of lager etc from the on site supermarket and take to the pool. Not really sure about the entertainment team but there are activities to partake in, if you want to. This hotel will not let you keep your room on unless in extreme circumstances, whatever this means. The shared showers are a joke (part of the gym) the drains are blocked and they overflow into the main room. The smell was unbelievable, a sewer that stunk of poo.
You are a 10-20 minute walk from the bowling centre or from the main resort and harbour. There are plenty of really good restaurants and bars to chose from. 5th Avenue Restaurant stood out for me, but it is up a wee street on the left handside opposite Flicks (another recommended place). Lots of pubs and clubs to chose from. I do not recommend El Toro Bravo at the Atlantico Centre, the service was crap and uses plastic tables and chairs, this must be a no-no, considering all the other steak restaurants. Just remember to take plenty of money. You do get hassled to go into restaurants but if you say you have already eaten or no thanks they are very pleasant. This resort seems new and is really clean.
Oh, and by the way, the great weather is not guaranteed here, as I thought. We had very cloudy weather with almost gale force winds and rain but when the sun did come out, it was extremely hot!
Definitely recommend it to all ages.

Oct 2008, Mr Cmcl  Ciaran

i arrived at oasis dunas apartments at approx 1.15pm,and to my anger i was told my room was not ready so i decided to go to the the bar and wait for the half hour my wife was told,so i decided to give them the chance and went back to the reception at 2.00 pm when the room was finally ready.
we were give room b339 which was facing the main road but i didnt mind that,so once i open the door of the apartment i was faced with a firey heat so i said to the wife i must turn on the air condition so i went in search, and came across dirty walls, poor light switches, several things broken, still no air condidion there was none,so i said i must go and get something for it,went to reception and told no fans left,so i just grined and beared it,but on a postive i would like to say the bars were fine.
also i would go back to fuertventura corralejo lovely town withe nice restuarents and bars but i would not go back to the oasis dunas.

Myself and my partner and our little one who is 2 just returned from the Oasis Dunas
Happy Children makes Happy Parents and that is exactly what we had our 2 yr old loved the Entertainment Scott,Sarah,Mark all tremendous fun and very professional in what they do from start to finish , the shows were 2nd to none he loved shades the shark and dizzy the dolphin we are still hearing about them now (Groovy Baby) outside of the complex be careful where you dine (some places put reserved seats and tables at the front so you think its poppular then after a while they take the reserved stickers off eg Chablis) be careful stick to the harbour and the plaza for value. Recommend The Beach for the Dunes grab a taxi and a boogie board for the Waves, Will Definately go back Cheers Thomas Cook

Cut to the chase... Apartments needs...

Sep 2008, Mr S Williams

Cut to the chase... Apartments needs refurbishing (biggest problems being the electrics (some plugs hang off the walls), the fact that the sheets aren't changed (unless you're staying 2 weeks), and safety (they can be easily broken into)). Food is horrible; dine out (incidently I reccomend a food court in the town called Plaza, which has an excellent Indian, Italian, Mexican, Steak house and Slow Boat). There are 3 large pools, which are sal****er, which I personally didn't mind too much about. What I did mind however was that they were never cleaned - I noticed floating fag buts, flies, wasps, plasters etc, not to mention alot of sun cream accumulating in areas. One positive I can draw from Oasis Dunas is the Thomas Cook reps. Really entertaining for the kids, and night time entertainment was generally very good. Mark (don't know second name) in particular was very amusing.
