Went there for on a late deal and found that the room that we were allocated appeared to be on the roof. We had a large terrace outside the small bedroom which had a large double sunbed on it, but you could only see over to the pool if you stood on the sunbed. The room had... more

The Best Hotel Tenerife, formerly Tenerife Princess will be closing down for 40 days in May, for re-furbishing. It is obvious it does need updating if it is to get back to being a 4 star hotel. Having said that , my wife and I enjoyed our stay, without wanting to change... more

Having just read some recent reviews about this hotel, I can only say things must have changed a lot in the year since my daughter, then aged six, and I were there! The accommodation was of a high standard; the food was good; but the staff were not particularly friendly... more

Have just returned from this hotel and it is not nearly as bad as it is made out. OK some areas were a bit dated but it was very clean, the room was big even with 3 beds in it. We got exactly what we asked for - a quiet room with a pool view. The food was lovely, I’m a... more

Shame About The Food
We spent two weeks at the Tenerife Princess in December 2006 and were generally very satisfied. The public areas such as the foyer, pool and bars were spacious, clean and attractive. Our fourth floor suite had a large balcony with table, sun loungers and an excellent view. The maid service was very good; reception staff were friendly and helpful and the dining room staff slick and efficient. However, the three lifts are small and barely adequate at busy periods, especially when being used by visitors with pushchairs; disabled visitors or departing guests with a lot of luggage. I also agree with other reviewers that it is mean of a hotel to charge extra for the hire of a safety deposit box. The pool is not as large as it seems in the photographs and only the small, shallow part is heated in winter. It is easy to trip over the underwater step and there is no swim-up bar. We had no difficulty in obtaining sun loungers, but did find the pool rather shady and chilly from the cool breeze during our winter visit. (This might be a bonus in summer.) Live entertainment was provided each evening and was generally of a high standard although the regular singing group had very poor English and only a tenuous grasp of the words. However, there is plenty of other entertainment available locally and the hotel is very handy for the main shopping area. Our biggest complaint was the food. Even allowing for the demands of mass catering, it was unappetising and lacked variety. We were particularly disappointed at the lack of fresh fruit, salads or local vegetables and the heavy reliance on British staples such as roast beef or roast lamb at the expense of anything local. The pool-side restaurant was particularly atrocious, offering hamburgers, pizzas and chicken nuggets and the so-called juice bar only had white bread toasties on offer when we tried it. We would stay in this hotel again but only on a bed and breakfast basis. We would prefer to go out to eat.
Pool was dangerous for children.
We stayed at the tenerife princess wc 12/2/07. The hotel was very clean but in need of a re furbishment. The rooms were very clean but the electricity sockets appeared to spark. The food was very good too and entertainment was ok but a bit repetitive as in the same band played 3 times during our week stay. The heated pool was nice but unsafe for small children. It started at 0.4 metres and dropped on a step to 0.8 metres with no warning line e.g different coloured tiles etc, this is dangerous for small children and also a lot of adults fell as they were unaware. I enjoyed my holiday but would not rate this as a 4* Thomson platinum compared to the Bahia and Guyarmina i found this hotel very dissapointing.
We should of taken notice of the bad reviews.
From the outside it looks 'tired' and, except for the public areas this hotel really does need a face lift, it is not a 4 star platinum as Thomson would have us believe. The rooms are large and bland, the bathroom was pathetic, a large rigid screen along half the bath was meant to be the shower curtain. This resulted in us having to climb into the bath to reach the mixer taps. The plumbing for the bidet that had been removed could have been uterlised for a seperate shower. The outside balcony was in poor condition with the walls looking as if mortar bombs had struck them. The overflow from the upper balconies emptied onto our balcony and everytime the staff watered the balcony flower beds the overspill formed a puddle on the floor of our balcony as the tiles sloped away from the drain!. Cracks in the precast concrete balcony walls were a concern, especially when they are above your head. The old style gold coloured aluminium roller patio doors are long past their sell by date - The Volcano next door have replaced all of theirs. The gliders on the doors are non existant and the opening and shutting of these doors cause tremendous noise even if one tries to close/open the door quitely. The food was very good and all the staff except the reception were very helpful. Although we paid for late occupancy when we booked we were 'locked out 'of our room at 11.45hrs on the day of departure! a cleaner allowed us access and we found a note had been put under our door during the hour we had been away stating that we would have to settle our 12 euro bill and then our door card would be programmed to allow us back in until 6pm!. This hotel has a 'nickel and dime' attitude towards guests, pay extra for the safe and a deposit for the key - no you cannot charged it to your room account, it must be in cash!. The list goes on. We promised ourselves a good holiday and that nothing would upset it. We were very disappointed and Thomson's will get a full critque. I would stress that no claim for compensation has or will be made, we will just ensure that we never book at that hotel in the future. Each has a personal experience, but from what others said on the way home yesterday, a fair few had problems!
Fabulous
When we first booked this hotel we took a look at the reviews on the internet and almost cancelled immediately we are so pleased we did not, The hotel is fantastic, the food is fab it is in a cracking location and the hotel is spotless. The only thing we cannot comment on is the entertainment as we went out every night. please do not be put off by other peoples comments please try it for yourself you will not be dissapointed
wife thought it was wonderful
this hotel was great clean and tidy we would certainly go again dont be put off by silly bad reveiws
In desperate need of a refurbishment
My family and I stayed at this hotel for a week in February 2007 via Thompsons Platinum Range. We were so disappointed with the hotel as the brochure advertised 4T's. The hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment particularly the bedrooms. The beds and bedding are in a disgusting state. The furniture is falling apart and the hotel generally looks shabby. With 2 teenage girls we chose this hotel for the heated swimming pool however on arrival the only pool heated was the children's pool which was too shallow to swim in! We stayed on a half-board basis but after talking to other guest we realised that the other European travellers had all inclusive packages for 1 month the same price we paid for a week. All in all it was a rip-off and I would not return to this hotel if they paid me.
Great Hotel
We have just returned from this hotel, had a great time. We didn't experience any problems at all. Room was cleaned daily and everywhere within the hotel was clean. Even though a couple of our party were fussy eaters there was always something tasty for them to eat, excellent selection of food. One of the swimming pools is heated during winter and we spent many happy hours in the pool. The only fault that we found was the evening entertainment. At 8pm there was a kids mini disco and then nothing most evenings until 9.30pm when there was a parrot show ect. Then approx 10.30pm there usually was the main cabaret, the cabarets were very good but by 10.30pm we were tired after being out and about in the sun all day. We always stayed for the cabaret but felt that that the show could have been put on earlier. The location of the hotel is excellent and so close to the seafront where you can walk to the right to the centre of Las Americas and to the left to Los Cristianos. We personally liked the Los Cristianos beach and swam in the sea there. We went on some tours, aqualand, loro parque, Mount Teide and on Christmas day we went of a Freebird sail and saw plenty of whales and dolphins. Excellent way to spend Christmas day. We thoughly enjoyed all of the tours and would recomend them, we booked them through the Thomsom rep. All in all a good Christmas time.
Very enjoyable week
Hotel Tenerife Princess Playa Americas 14 November 2006 - 21 November 2006 I have just returned from a very enjoyable week at this hotel. I was feeling worrid as I had read some bad reports on this hotel. We were pleasantly surprised, the hotel was in an excellent location, excellent food and it was a pleasure to stay there for a week. The rooms were clean and well presented but maybe lacked a little storage space. I would certainly recommend the Tenerife Princess and will definitely return to this hotel.
don't go here if you are expecting luxury
We were booked on a Thomson platinum pricebreaker 4* holiday with this hotel as one of the 3 possibilities that we could have been in. On arrival, we waited with everyone else to be given our room key. There were dead cockroaches on the floor of the reception. There was an odd smell coming from the stagnent water feature in the foyer. The room was a weird shape with the Tv in a place that would not be able to be seen from the bed! The bed was a small double put into a gap that was meant for a king size so there was a gap between the bed and the side cabinets. The bathroom was very "tired", the bath had chunks of enamel missing from it and there was mould on the silicone and strips of wood missing from the door. The restaurant was very busy with people dining in shorts and vest tops! (not the sort of dress code expected of a 4 * hotel) We were told we had to pay for all drinks at the table and could not charge them to the room bill! After what was a very dissappointing first evening meal we went to the bar for another drink, the place was dirty and the waiters were a little put out that we wanted serving! the tables needed a good clean, despite the lack of guests drinking in there. We spent a sleepless night in the room, it looked over the service alley and there was activity all night with the bins then being emptied at 6am!!! directly outside the room was a very noisy ventilation duct that was working 24/7. After breakfast we saw the rep and arranged a move to the Vulcano next door, a four star hotel that was at least 2 stars in front of this one! ( see my review of that hotel) Would not go back here if we were paid to, thought that all 4 stars were the same but was very dissappointed to find not.
wonderful hotel
just got back from here had two weeks at this hotel and had a great time, the hotel room was large and very clean could do with an update but it was fine, the staff were very helpful and the pool area was great, you could always find a sunbed altho some people qued up for a bed when the pool opened at 8 am, food at this hotel was amazing lots of selection and they had theme nights as well, lots of sea food every night as well, whatever your taste it was there. location was good as well only 5 min to beach. weather fantastic did not go below 83 deg for the 2 weeks and the last week was in the high 90s the sea was lovely to swim in quite warm. entertainment was ok good variety but we always went out to local bars etc. as the drinks were quite pricey in hotel which is norm for most hotels !!!! happy hour is 4 til 5 pm so we made use of that as the drinks are half price and they give you very generous measures , pool bar was good as well as pool restruant so we had no complaints at all we stayed on 2nd floor and had good pool view, brilliant holiday in all.
