Ants Ants Ants Ants Ants!

First off - ANTS everywhere in and outside of apartment. Balcony, living room floor, bedroom walls, towels. Came back to apartment one day and there were about 100 ants walking all over our bathing sponge in the bathroom - yuk. When first spotted them we reported them and the maintenance chap came and squirted them within 10 minutes - this was outside. Didnt fancy him squirting them inside where baby would touch so resorted to squashing them best as we could - on a serveral times a day basis. If i can find out how to upload a photo i will.
Apartment
2 bedroom apartment - very spacious and more than enough for our 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. Kitchen very well equipped. Was in a ground floor apartment - Balcony was HUGE, and locked via a gate, so u kinda felt self contained and safe for little ones. Cot was 40 Euro for 10 days - rip off - Look like it came from a Romanian orphanage!
Mestral Llebeig Hotel Surroundings
Lovely, we were on the Leibeig side - quieter but with pool and close to supermarket about 5 buildings away. Splash pool is on Mestral side. Clean, tidy, friendly maintenance staff should you need them - our balcony gate came off its hinges. Little park round the back of the apartment which the children took themselves off too.
Resort & Beaches
Beach is right across the road just behind the hotels opposite - great location. I dont like beaches myself but the children did. Had to clear away lots of rubbish, fags and plasters on occasions though - so fault of Santo Tomas - but of its visitors. Beach could do with some more showers - but they have gone all eco, so less is more. Resort is very small and very quiet. 10 minutes max walk to right of hotel and 5 mins max to left of hotel and you are done. You cannot walk any further - u have to go by bus. We went to Es Mijorn one day which is the next village and has a supermarket (local and very nice indeed) at 1.80 a pop and found out from our neighbours at apartment that they went all the way to Mahon for 2.90!
Food and Supermarkets
2 Mini markets (one to the left and one to the right of hotel), have all you could need. Yes some of it costs a hell of a lot more than home, we got savvy and shopped a little smarter as the holiday went on. Local bread cheapest was around 1.25 a loaf. eggs, butter, jam, ham, cheese all reasonable. Tobacco shop is next to mini market to the left of hotel - closed sundays.
Bakers selling fresh bread open 8.30 - 12.30 all week next to mini supermarket to right - they sell the cheapest water too. 1.30 for 5 litres. Next to the bakers is a mini cafe / restaruant and we found these the cheapest for food. Lots of variety, quick service, food dishes mainly 5.50 each - Lovely staff. They also do DELICIOUS Ice cream!
There is little choice of eateries - they all serve the same thing but vary in prices. Chips chips chips. If you want a proper healthy meal (even just for one day!), prepare to pay £20 a head just for main course.
Las Dunas - Hotels restaurant - not great for food. Dont go for the chicken curry!
Activities for children
Las Dunas Evening Disco - same songs every night.
Kids club - my daughter loved it apart from being covered in chocolate at the choccy party - ho well.
Splash pool on Mestral side - loved by all our kids - perfect for our 1 year old to walk around in and get up and down slides by herself.
Various little parks and play areas dotted around near beach.
Met some lovely people, got a nice tan, weather between 25 - 28 degrees.

excellent family friendly resort.we had a 3 bed apartment, great pool and sea view. our kids range from 7 up to 15, they loved it. didnt find supermarkets as pricey as some people have commented on, your on holiday not at home in tesco! all staff friendly and gave excellent service especially nico, keeley, juan, tony, christian and diego. food was great in las dunas bar. beach very nice water warmer than the pools. the whole resort very clean and environmentally friendly. kids splash pool great just a shame the water only turns on between 12.30 and 3.30 pm.would definately go again

Very expensive

Just got back from 7 nights at Mestral Llebeig, found it very expensive 3.5 euros for a small loaf of bread in the local super market, got a bus to the next town that cost 1.15 per person each way when we got there every thing was closed, it was a ghost town. We were stuck with two small kids in 30c+ and 2 hours until the return bus. As far as the rooms are concerned, if you have small kids you really need to be on the Mestral side of the road. We were on the Llebeig side where there is no bar, snack bar, kids club, splash pool in fact all there is on that side is a broken vending machine! So unless your kids are old enough to cross a road on their own make sure you ask for a room on the Mestral side. The local resturants had a resonable menu Chicken & chips at about 9 euros, drinks very expensive pint of Magners cider 5.80 euros.
The kids club was only for upto age 8 which we was not told prior to booking our oldest is 9 and the 5 year old wanted her big sister to go with her. So therefore cant coment on the club.
There is a notice by the pool that states that sun beds can not be reserved, this is also on an information leaflet in the room. Great! Got down to the pool on the first morning about 9am, there was 2 people and no sun beds that did not have a towel on them, when I spoke to the rep she said that she could do nothing about it.

Great place but will be spoilt becoming all inclusive next year

This is a fantastic resort and the apartments offering 2 bedrooms at cost is great for a family because the sofas don't move together so it's a narrow sleeping area.
Pools are fab and the kids club really well organised. I can't see how the all inclusive will work with the restaurant destined for the food is really small and service not the best. Poolside space is not big enough for all in the apartments to fit round and if you are all inclusive can't see you wanting to go to the beach where you won't get your free drinks etc.

Spent 2 weeks here with our 3 children- 14, 5 and 3, and we were all sad to come home! It's outstandingly clean, very family orientated and totally laid back. The reps are friendly and helpful, available if you need them but never pushy.
Apartments: a little dated but clean and comfortable, towels & bedding changed every 2-3 days. The flush broke off our loo and it was fixed within the hour- brilliant!
As mentioned in most other reviews the facilities are excellent: pony club, play areas, splash pool, crazy golf, tennis. Our younger ones loved the kids' club too, and we enjoyed the short break!
Resort: the restaurants are all pretty good and some have stunning views of the coast. I agree that the menus are limited, especially if like us you're on a budget, it's basically pizza or pasta. If you can spend 15euros plus on a main course you'll get a good meat or fish meal. All cater well for children with kids menu (about 5E without drink or dessert) and play areas. Don Tomas is the best but don't overlook the cafe next to the bakery- excellent food & much cheaper than the restaurants.
Supermarkets are pricey but exchange rate is poor. Milk 2.65 for 1.5L, water 1.99 for 5L, bread 1-3 euros. Yes you can get cheaper further afield but it's a hassle unless you have a car & can do a big shop. First choice allow 20kg so take advantage & take your own cereal, tea & coffee, part-baked bread etc. Don't forget washing up liquid, cloths and kitchen wipes too.
Activities: the walk to Son Bou is stunning but beware going with young children on hot days. Es Migjorn (10 mins on bus) has great tapas bar(Bar Peri) and cheaper supermarkets. It comes to life on Tues nights with handicraft market and live entertainment. We took the bus to the capital Mahon where you can get a tour of the harbour on a glass-bottomed boat- stunning!Cuitadella the other main city is well worth a visit and takes an hour on the bus. Absolutely beautiful but get the last bus home as it starts buzzing after 5.
Though we didn't hire a car, it would certainly broaden your options- not that we were ever bored!
The island itself is stunning with more than its share of beautiful beaches, ancient monuments, impressive architecture and unspoiled landscapes; and none of the tackiness associated with other destinations. Can't recommend enough.

Great Holiday

We travelled as a group of 8, ages ranging from 6 - 16 & 35 - 60. The apartments were superb, very clean, well equipped, spacy and bright. TV Selection very good.
The surrounding grounds / gardens were immaculate.
Kids pool was brilliant the only down side on the pool area was the German styled Brits who did insist on reserving sunbeds with towels, not a problem though we just removed them.
Surrounding restaurants served a variety of food which was not that expensive, the bars were well stocked with a selection of International brands and my thoughts are that if you want to drink a British drink or eat British food then expect to pay a little more as these types of commodities have to be exported a long way.
Beach very good but could do with more showers.
Transfers & Flights excellent. Overall a fantastic holiday which was made even more enjoyable by the enthusiasm and character of the First Choice Holiday Reps.

Just returned from the Mestral/Llebeig apartments and can highly recommend it. Our 2 kids 5 & 11 had a great time in and out of the pool and the evening entertainment was excellent.
The kitchen was well equipped and the only major niggle was the beds which kept moving around and didn't have their headboards attached!
We found it easy to get around by public transport and visited the two main cities.
The nearby supermarkets were reasonably well prices although its probably a good idea to take a few brand names things with you as these can be expensive.
Would definately return again.

My family and I stayed at the mestral llebeig apartments in menorca for eleven nights in june. We had been to the santo tomas resort several times before but never stayed here, we found the accomodation fantastic, it was very clean and great for children. We have even started planning our holiday next year there. We found that there were plenty of cafes and restaurants to eat at near-by, and the beach and pool were great. we often went back to the (thankfully) air-conditioned room at lunch time for a sandwich and a 'siesta', as it was very hot sitting on the beach. I would recommend both families and couples to stay here as it is situated very near to the beach and shops, we never had to walk very far if it was too hot. Clean and spacious rooms that were very quiet at night, we will definitely go again in the future. hope this helps!

We have just returned from the most relaxing family holiday ever!! From the moment we arrived the service was excellent, reps met us from the coach and were around almost all week even if it was just to say hello! Our children 11,10 and 3 had an excellent time in the pools which were very clean and well maintained. The apartment complex was spotless and the gardens were very well maintained! Our 2 bedroom apartment was clean but basic but we were hardly ever in it! The maid service was excellent clean towels 3 times in the week and linen changed 3 times, outstanding! The maids don`t speak english so communication is limited! We never found eating out a problem although most of the restaurants did seem to serve the same kind of food most of which is fried! Es pins was good for an evening meal as was las dunes, we had chinese at the restaurant down the road which was very nice!! Bar halley served a full english breakfast and the service was very good, my children loved the moonshakes they served - well worth a try!! Beach was fab although beware that the sand does get very very hot! we used to run across it or keep flip flops on!! Overall a great family holiday felt very safe on the resort as it was small and welcoming would def go back but would look at half board or all inclusive as we spent a fortune on food!! If your thinking of going here then I need say only one thing BOOK NOW YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

just came back from a week at the mestral llebeig and i can not rate this place highly enough!!!

we had read a few worrying reviews before we left but i am glad to say we had a fab time.
it was our first family holiday with our 2 sons age 4 & 2 1/2. this place was great, especially the splash pool it is gated so unless someone forgets to lock the gate on the way out your kids are closed in. our sons wanted to spend all day at the splash pool as they could paddle around with no armbands as it's only shallow and as the bathinging area is well laid out you can watch them from either your sunbed or sat in the edge of the splash pool. letting them enjoy their freedom and the great slides.there's a couple of parks on the complex and these are lovely with everything on the complex well kept and clean.
the rooms are clean basic accomodation with everything you really need kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer microwave, iron and ironing board. we had a one bed apartment but found that we needed to hire a cot for our 2 1/2 year old as the floor is tiled and he fell out of bed the first night. this wasn't expensive only 24 euros but worth it for the better night sleep!!!
the reps were 2 young girls and they really were great we had a lovely welcome meeting, a call to make sure we were having a good time (very rare) and to see if we needed anything. then they hand delivered the departure details checking again if we had a good time. they were very friendly and always seemed to be about on the complex. we didn't use the kids club but this also looked like great fun with 3 young girls running it ( watch out for their song at the welcome meeting it'll bring a smile to your face)
there are reviews that said the supermarkets were expensive but thats really only if your going to buy british stuff (fruit shoots, pg tips english biscuits etc) it wasn't too expensive if you bought local produce. but your on holiday so just go with it!!!
the beach was beautiful ( although our children don't like te beach much) very safe as it stayed shallow quite a way out. would advise if your going to go a few times to buy an umberella from the shop as its cheaper than hiring one.
there is only a few places to have meals in but we didn't have a bad meal in any I would recommend the lamb at the restaurante at the left end of the beach (looking out to sea) it was nore than i cook for a sunday lunch!!!! most restaraunte have a park by it so the kids never tire of things to do.
ok and lastly las Dunas is the entertainment complex across the road from the appartments which is linked to the complex as all the staff can be found serving there as well, now this place made my children's night every night..... it has a soft play area, crazy golf, arcade machines, football pitches and tennis courts and entertainment every night kids mini discos and shows. we saw an elvis show, magician, done a quiz, saw a parrot show and a disney show which everyone was thrilled with as they even got to meet mickey mouse at the end. the food in las dunas was also very nice and all the staff were friendly.
i would recommend this resort for familys especially those with young children as it was just brilliant (also very flat for pushing the pushchairs around)
we have already looked at booking it up again next year so hopefully that says it all.

What a fantastic holiday!! I only got back yesterday eve and i am pricing up to go back next year with friends.
The resort is small and quiet which is just what i wanted. My husband I and 3 kids aged 8,5,4. have had the holiday of our dreams. Made some great friends in the hotel rep and kids club reps as well as all the waiting staff who could not be more attentative to our needs, however never pushy just very friendly and polite they helped to make pur holiday what it was.
The apartments were very clean and well equipped and very well maintained as were the pools and grounds. The whole resort of Santo Thomas is one of the cleanest I have ever visited and the island is stunning.
The restaurants are to a decent standard however there are not very mant to choose from but you can eat in the other hotels. The Chinese food was good from the restaurant in Santo Thomas but the service was not the best, however this was not part of the hotel group and at the other end of town.
There is Las Dunas bar where Juan, Cristian, Tony and Diego will make you laugh, smile, and provide excellent service and Keeley is there with the Mini disco every night having a great time with the kids and parents. She also provides regular fun filled daytime activities for anyone who wants to get involved and it is well worth it as she is great.
Then there is the Mestral Pool side bar where you can again have a drink with and excellent service from Niko, Diego, Cristian,Lina and Tony. The football atmosphere in this bar was great despite englands perforamnce! This bar serves lunch time snacks and breakfast and is open til around midnight.
The pools are a great size and there are plenty of loungers. The beach in Santo Thomas has clear waters and is so clean and pretty however there can be Jellyfish so it is wise to follow the flag system.
There are 2 Supermarkets in the village both around the same prices and can be expensive if you insist on british brands!!! So it may be wise to take some essentials such as cereal and tea and coffee, i did and it proved wise!!
The bins in the resort were emptied every day and the resort was so clean. It can be wise to hire a car even for a day and see the island as it is pretty and buy any tobacco as there is no tobbaconist in the resort but 10 min on the bus to ES Mijorn is a tobaconist and cheaper supermarket but check opening times with the reps as this is a small town that does shut down for siesta time.
Overall a fantastic holiday and i cannot wait to return as we promised all the staff we would and can't imagine finding a friendlier family resort which is as clean and nice as this one. Words cannot describe the fun we all had, the kids at kids club, mini-disco, swimming, walking, games and friends. FANTASTIC!!

We stayed in Santo Tomas June 2010, it was the first time we have taken our children (aged 4 & 5) abroad. I can honestly say that we found eveything about the apartments and the resort fantastic. The apartments are equipped with everything you need and cleaned to a good standard. The pools and playground are great and very child friendly, and we found all of the staff to be polite and friendly. There is a restaurant/bar opposite the apartments that has childrens entertainment on every night which was good, and there is also a few other nice restaurants - all very child friendly, a short walk away along a lovely sea front path. There is also a nice longer walk over the coast to Son Bou which is great for a day out. We would definately consider returning again in the future.
