Fantastic Break August 20th 2011

I have just come back from a fantastic break at the Marina Park Hotel, our apartment number 263 was spotlesly clean, modern and comfortable and very spacious with two singles pushed together in each room and two bathrooms plenty of room for 2, the maid came in everyday and we had clean towels nearly everyday even though it stated that we would only have a change twice in the week. Our apartment was just by the pool so we had not far to walk and we did not have a problem finding a sun bed although some could do with new covers as they were a bit saggy and uncomfortable. The food was amazing and I always found something that I liked which is a miricle as I am a very fussy eater, it was always presented well and was a variety of meat and fish the sardines were amazing and so was the veal, a selection of fruit was available but could have been more at breakfast, the fry up was great though some of the english guests seem to struggle with the fish dishes but when in spain I like to eat what the spanish eat not egg and chips everyday as some did, so I never found it a problem. We did not have a problem with ants but had heard that some familys had. Bad points were the evening entertainment was crap a girl who sang through her nose and 2 blokes accompanying her awful, but if like me you wanted an early night anyway you could shut your door and not hear them which was great. Local bus service quite good nice buses but with all inclusive the timings were terrible and you had to miss 2 meals each time if you went out, the buses theselves were top class fully air conditioned and GB could learn alot from them. The staff were great even though they spoke limited english as long as you tried to speak some spanish they would try to, nothing was to much trouble and when I left and thanked the maid for her help she hugged me like I was a long lost friend, the bar man was amazing he worked endless hrs and still had a smile on his face, never found I had to wait o long for my Polmara (gin and lemon fanta) lovely drink lol. The beach was amazing and not very far to walk and well worth it.All in all we had a fab holiday and I would go back there next year like a shot it was quiet which was just what I wanted, if your a party animal go else where!!

My husband and I were staying at the hotel from 23/08/10 till 06/09/10 and it was absolutely amazing. we were self catering so didnt try the hotel food but the room was very nice and clean and the staff were very friendly. i recommend the hotel if you have children as it is very safe and child friendly. We are both looking forward to going back in the near future and cant recommend the marina parc enough.

we returned from this hotel on 11/8/2010. on arrival we were told are rooms would not be ready until 1pm. Then we were given our keys the 2 bedroom apartment was clean and spacious with a full size kitchen and satelite telly albeit targeted mainly at our German visitors.
Pool area is nice and there are plenty of sunbeds no fighting over them. Children did cut there feet on loose tiles in the pool so bring plenty of water proof plasters. For those who go all inclusive the deal is not so good there is snack bar on site which is open when the resturant is closed as soon as resturant is open the snack bar closes for around 3 hours if you are self catering there is no bar nearby to be able to get drinks although staff did not know what to charge us as not use to paying guests and the drinks were small and pricey does not cater for us and lacks cooking facilities in room.
There is entertainment on site but this definelty for a german friends as they dont translate to english. so would have to walk about 10/15 minutes for entertainment and not really suitable for people who cant walk far as mainly up hill as well as the site is on various levels in which able body people struggled let alone anybody with disabilities.
Reception staff are very friendley and will try to help but they struggled in finding an explanation to why everything like entertainment daytrips was all based on the german visitors full information boards but all in german. on asking that there were a lot of english cliental where was the travel info for them they could not answer. They only exchange euro during banking hours as they have to ring bank for exchange rate and struggled with this most of the time.
Albeit we did have a good holiday but we are young and am very able to walk distances at any levels. the beach is beautiful and there are some nice resturants serving lovely meals people were friendly.
there are good bars that open very late for the party goers but does lack things for small children to do.

Great Break

Me, my wife and 2 kids (7 & 16) had a week's holiday at the Marina Park Hotel.
The apartment was good, clean, smart and hospitable and only a short walk from the pool.
We were in the area behind the reception across the road from what is the larger part of the hotel. Our area had a lot people from Belgian and Netherlands and we all got on very well (no towel wars), there were also families from Scotand and London too.
The hotel had a good pool in our area, so we didn't bother trying the others in the hotel. The bar at the main hotel across the road was good for drinks and lunch (try the tuna salad - it was good and huge). We attended the evening entertainment only for a final evening drink as we preferred eating in the small town.
The resort is man made and designed around families. The restaurants were good although a bit more expensive than some other areas of Menorca (due to location). We had some great meals there including steaks, kebabs, seafood and paella. The wine was in good flow most evenings and we were never disppointed.
The beach area was close enough for us all to walk to.
The night life was family orientated and far enough away to avoid any noise disruptions unlike the large hotel near the beach.
All in all, I would recommend both the hotel and resort for families of children probably upto 12 or for couples seeking a quiet-ish break.
Bus tour round the island was good value (if staying a fortnight I'd have probably hired a car for a few days and explored the island that way).
The only disappointing thing was when we went to go to town, but 2 buses passed us because they were full from Arenal (TIP : pick the right day and leave earlier from hotel and walk 10 mins. into Arenal to pick up bus there).
I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

We are lucky enough to generally get...

We are lucky enough to generally get away 4 to 5 times a year and so think we have had some experience of holidays and different types of accomodation. Never have we stayed at apartments so wrongfully graded by a holiday company. These apartments proudly boast 4*. They are lucky if they make 2*. The apartments are in 3 phases, all depends on what phase you get. Generally the Brits are put in block 3 which is by far the worst where as the Germans, Dutch and Spanish get the better blocks 1 and 2 which whilst appear much better still don't warrent 4*.
There were several problems.
1. Lack of hot running water in the apartment and quite often even getting enough water to fill the toilet was a bonus. Generally to wash we had to wait for the times of the day when demands on the water system were lower and generally showered in the evenings after 8pm.
2. The apartments are cleaned ONCE per week, that means one change of towels per week also, the communal areas were rarely cleaned, with the same items of litter staying in situ for several days, even dirty towels lay in the corridors possibly where the cleaners had left them during the weekly room clean.
3. Don't be fooled by any pool photos you might see in the brochures. Photos are of blocks 1 and 2. Block 3 which is by far the largest block has a pool the surrounds of which is coated in green paint which is coming off in huge chunks. This probably is why it isn't regularly swept or hosed down as most of the paint would easily come off, again quite often items of litter can be found in situ round the pool for a couple of days.
4. For the size of the apartments there is not enough sunbeds. This results in many of the beds being reserved by 8am. It is hard to blame people doing this as it is the only way of ensuring that families can get beds and even better get them together. We befriended several other couples during our stay, all of them had the same opinions of the complex. These are the main issues and is not an exhaustive list.
On the plus points if you haven't given up reading this, are that if you are looking for a quite low key resort then this resort is ideal. The small shopping centre situated across from block 3 has a supermarket that is very reasonable and every meal we bought was to a good standard giving good value for money. We can recommend the El Piriata and the Chinese restaurant next to it.
To sum up when we see 4 * we expect 4*. We have stayed in many of these such as the Atlantis Palace in Fuerteventura. To say both of these places are of an equal standard is a disgrace, please avoid the Marina Parc.

Just returned from our 1 week stay at the Marina Park Apartments in Arenal Den Castell. The Apartments itself were clean and comfortable. We had a sea/pool view apartment with nice views.
The complex is split into three locations (just across the roads from each other) and each has it's own pool and pool snack bar.
The apartments are cleaned once a week. You can request clean towels etc from the reception/cleaners who are friendly & accommodating.
The sandy beach is a short walk away and access is via steps (not easy if you have a buggy!). The water is clear & gentle shelving.
There are a few restaurants nearby however if you take a short 10min walk you will find a nice selection of restaurants. Nightlife is very low key.
