My family and I have just returned...
4 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss S Seymour

My family and I have just returned form a two week stay at the Papantonia Hotel in Cyprus staying on a half board basis.
The holiday booked through First Choice was quite expensive. The hotel was advertised as a 3 star. Sadly this is not the case, the Papantonia would be lucky to get a 2 star rating in England or Spain (this is not just my opinion but that of one of the Reps working there).
The hotel is very small with facilities such as internet access (breaks down every other day), four swimming pools (five people came down with ear infections whilst we were visiting, caused assumingly by the pools. The pools also change your swimsuits green), lifts that cover all floors (breaks down every day with people inside them).
The rooms are basic and not much to write home about, they are clean and are kept clean however the overall appearance of the hotel and rooms is shabby - with graffiti in the lifts and stairwells, mismatched tiles in the bathrooms (ladies don’t attempt to shave your legs in the bath you may cut yourself as there is only one strip light above the mirror) bleach and other stains on the hall and bedroom carpets, badly scratched plastic covered balconies, with views at the front of the hotel of a car park, waste land and the back of the station pub that plays loud music all night that will keep the little ones awake. The Papantonia has basement toilets for guests to use when they are using the outside facilities, be warned it smells really bad so breath through your mouth if you use these toilets and showers. The smell is that bad it lingers in the lifts if they have been down to the basement and creeps up the stairs.
One other major disappointment was the food for the children. If your child is a fussy eater and does not like chips and beans don’t bother going half board because every night for two weeks this is what was available on the children's buffet.
The area is not bad but don't let the adverts fool you, it is a fair walk into town but if you take the beach path it is very scenic with rock pools and a few cafes etc to have a drink on your trek.
Protaras is a lovely area but like everywhere has been swamped by gift shops and bars. Look out of the Sherwood Forest Bar, good, friendly service and good nights out with excellent music.
The Kids Club Reps and entertainment Reps are very good and have a very good rapport with the children, however the team leader for the entertainment Reps (you'll know him when you see him) can be funny (and not in a good way) and can be reluctant to act upon guests suggestions. The Wave Length Rep called Ross aka Rooney is an absolute diamond, he is fantastic with both kids and adults alike!
To conclude the hotel is very basic more like a poor 2 star, the food is okay but its not going to blow your mind and there is absolutely no food for the little ones. If your like me and like a very nice hotel with good food - a place to relax and get away from the 9-5 life don't got to the Papantonia but if you like a holiday just sat at the side of the pool with loads of so-so food and all the beer you can drink an all inclusive break at the Papantonia is ideal.

Jun 2006, Not Specified

I went to hotel Papentonio for a two-week holiday at the end of April, and had a pleasant holiday. The food was decent, but not much variety, as we were having the same meals each day, and were all wondering each night which goe we would be having for pudding, or which flavoured jelly. As I say you knew what was going to be for dinner because of what you had had the previous night.
The bar staff were friendly and so were the receptionists, and some of the entertainers. Except for two entertainers who were a little false and majorly depressed. The pool was large, and a good swim, but I can tell you one thing it was cold, lol. The main beach was about a 20 minute walk away and was a lovely beach, near the main street, with plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants, nightlife, etc.
The entertainment at our resort was good. They had game shows, dancing, hypnotists, quizzes, bingo, mini disco, etc.
They have a kids club at the place which the little kids seemed to enjoy. The maid service was good. They came 3-5 times a week. But beware- they steal all your money.
PS. if you are staying in a studio you will have a view to the pool, if not you will have a view to a dump.

I have just returned from a weeks...

May 2006, Mrs V Green

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Papantonia with my husband and 2 children (aged 9 & 6). We stayed on the All Inclusive rate and boy was it worth it! With 2 hungry ones to feed, and a husband who enjoys his beer it was worth the extra £££. If you hadn't booked AI with your agent you can *upgrade* when you arrive for a few CYP a day.
The hotel at first is nothing to look at. Don't get me wrong it's clean and tidy but they have carpet in the halls and in the bedrooms - why? Anyhow it kept the noise levels down when for new arrivals and departures. The reception was always clean as was the lobby and arcade area.
The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis, towels changed daily, bed linen twice weekly. The staff are always smiley and friendly and always happy to help. The food was OK. Don't expect Michelin star but decent meals are served 3 times a day buffet style. Between the 4 of us (2 of them fussy eaters) we always enjoyed every meal. They even have a kids buffet if you like that kind of chicken nugget/burger thing.
The kids clubs were ace! Again the staff were friendly and happy and the security was ideal. The kids always came back happy and full of beans. In the evenings the entertainment was as to be expected in a hotel / holiday like this. Kids disco, bingo then slight adult entertainment - very funny! The bar was always buzzing from 8pm - midnight!
Apparently the Papantonia has the best pool area in Protaras and I can understand why. 2 pools, 2 baby pools, not busy at this time of year so my youngest was able to snorkel until her heart was content. Plenty of sun beds for all and umbrellas to.
A thoroughly great holiday enjoyed by all. The kids would love to go back but we're off to explore more of Cyprus!

I loved the holiday. Its so depressing being back here in England now!
The hotel was really nice and clean, and the entertainers and bar staff were really friendly and funny. There's lots of activities to do in the daytime, for example water polo, cricket, killer pool and darts, (not forgetting sun bathing of course) and in the evening there is entertainment such as game shows, quizzes and karaoke.
It was wicked, I actually cried all day when I came back. You don’t want to miss it.

We stayed at the Papantonia...

Apr 2006, Wendy Land

We stayed at the Papantonia Apartments for Easter 2006. The apartments are exclusive to First Choice and their sister companies so everyone around the pool etc were British. This also meant that the nightly bingo numbers were only called in English! The apartments were a good size and well equipped (although being all inclusive we didn't need to use the kitchen but there was a toaster!).
There are no washing lines on the balcony so I would recommend taking your own. The rooms were kept very clean by the hardworking cleaning staff. The whole place was spotless - the cleaners were always cleaning and sweeping. The pool area was clean and spacious there were 4 pools in total with loads of sun beds so there would be no need to fight over them even peak season.
The hotel was close to the beach (which was not as good as we were expecting) but it is completely surrounded by other hotels. We did go out of season - but the weather was lovely and it really was quite quiet everywhere. The all inclusive drinks were great - Carlsberg Lager and local spirits, they even had Diet Coke! Cocktails were inclusive but lethal! The only thing to let the place down was the food. It was adequate but nothing special.
The salads were plentiful but the other meals were quite bland. Saying that we always found something to eat and the snacks were all inclusive outside of the restaurant opening times. Proper choc ices and small magnum type ice creams were available to everyone all day. The First Choice kids clubs were great - well staffed with British adult to child ratios to keep the children interested and entertained wile the adults relaxed around the pools drinking pina coladas!
Evening entertainment was fun - mainly being arranged by the First Choice entertainment team. The nights when they bought in outside help (hypnotist and Robbie impersonator) weren't as much fun as the other nights. All in all we had a fab relaxing holiday and I would consider going back again.

Went on holiday to Cyprus in 2004 and stayed at the hotel Papantonia. Fantastic hotel, nice and clean, with great staff and excellent first choice reps!
Have a little sister and she attended kids club, we as a family weren't expecting much of kids club but it was fantastic, they have a wicked time!! In fact I loved the idea of becoming a kids rep myself and am actually flying out to Cyprus in 3 weeks to be a children’s representative with first choice in Cyprus.
Its an amazing country with fantastic places. Night time entertainment at the hotel isn't amazing, although few good nights, seriously recommend Hotel Pap, just hope that’s where I’m going to be posted! ENJOY GUYS!

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful two week break at the Papantonia hotel. It was brilliant, pools were great but cold because of the season. Very clean, we were there until the very day of closing but was still brilliant.
We found that entertainment wasn’t brilliant, but there was always something to do within the area. You could always go to the sister hotel Martina, where there was excellent entertainment most nights. Great bars, and food restaurants were in a 5minute walk. Cristines became our favourite and we visited it every night during the holiday.
We strongly recommend a visit to a Tssokos hotel in Cyprus and Papantonia is a very strongly recommended one by my family and I.

My Partner and me have just arrived...

Oct 2005, Miss M Gillman

My Partner and me have just arrived home from a week at the Papantonia Hotel with first choice and we enjoyed every second of it !!!
The Hotel cannot be faulted at all, spotlessly clean and well kept. Staff Very Helpful and the reps were fantastic.
To get to the Protaras main strip it’s about a half hour walk but a cab only cost 4 CYP (roughly £4.20) and it takes about 3 minutes! In our eye’s it was well worth it!
The pool was fantastic very lively and fun. The beach is a 1 minute walk from the hotel however it’s not the best part, infact far from it! If you just turn right and walk along the sandy path (for about 10mins) you will come to the best part of the beach it was beautiful!!! so clear and blue.
All in all a fab holiday and would recommend it to anybody young or old!

May 2005, Mrs D Lewis

This was the first time we had visited the Papantonia hotel in Cyprus and the first time we had visited Cyprus. We had an amazing time at the hotel, as we didn’t go all inclusive we didn’t get the chance to try the hotels food but you were given every opportunity to do so.
We recommend visiting the welcome meeting on your first day it gave us lots of information and the reps were never far away. This was an amazing holiday and we recommend it to families looking for sunshine, sea and sand. We’ve booked up for next year and cant wait to go !

Apr 2004, Mrs A Chesnaye

I can’t praise the staff and hotel enough. It was perfect. My two kids were entertained and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Great food, great selection. Plenty of good foods - salads, fruit, meat etc. Shame there wasn’t more Cypriot food. The evening entertainment left a little to be desired - room for improvement there. I know it sounds corny but the whole family looked forward to the bingo each night. The kids loved it. The impromptu quizzes held were a great bonus. More of them please. We would definitely go back again. Chris behind the bar was fantastic.
