Marmara Antalya

We were there for the weekend. General: The hotel is excellent, well designed, very clean, friendly and helpful staff. The food is very good, clean and tasty, eating area is very nice and is kind of a "living space" which also holds a few computers with free Internet access (Also Wifi is for free), some swings, a climbing wall (!) and in general it's very original and fun to be in. The hotel is located some distance from the city centre, on the old Lara road. The outside is as pleasant as it looks on the website. What I disliked The rooms are postmodern to an extreme. The photos on the website are from the superior class of rooms in the revolving annex. The main hotel has rooms painted, say, fluorescent green on one wall, orange on the wall opposite, but with the ceiling left unpainted grey. They lost our reservation and they placed us in to a room at 03.00 am instead of 13.00 pm one day before. They made a mistake on their system and they treated us terribly when we arrived. I highly reccomend the Lara Barut but these people in The Marmara ia waiting and prepared to put you in a very bad mood. I can not believe how they call their self a 5 star. The hotel has nice well-kept grounds, large pool and a cliff that leads to the sea. Staff was usually friendly, language skills mixed (some German, some English). Room was large, clean, furnishings on the cheap side though (this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel). Beds are large and comfortable. Prices are horrendous....a glass of freshly squeezed oj (0.2liter) costs 9 YTL (4.50 Euro), a glass of house wine (Turkish wine) costs 12 YTL (6 Euro). Local beer costs 9 YTL. We were there for one night on our way to Cappadocia. Many of the upscale hotels have converted to the high-style minimalist look (Ian Schrager group, W, newer Ritz Carltons). However, the Marmara seems to be trying just little too hard. And what is with the cheesey 80's, dentist's office vertical blinds? We were reminded of the hilarious Expedia commercial in which an older, clearly solidly middle-class couple from the mid-West tries to find the shower in their ultra-hip and sleek hotel room. We have just returned from a weekend(26-29 apr) at the Marmara and I can say that I'm not agree with previous review. The first problem that I've meet is AirCondition that exists, but doesn't work. It means(as the explain us), that some of their guests are turkish people, and for them 25-28 C is cold - so AirCondition work for heating. The Air Condition is cental system, so they can change cooling/heating once in the season, so they ask to wait about a month, and after that it will be turned on. This hotel is so different from the usual "club-resort-all-included" formula, that it's really hard to say if you'd like it. My impression is that you can eather love it or hate it; depends on what are you looking for. We've stayed there for 4 nights (me and my girlfriend) and enjoyed a lot. The Marmara is everything that all other hotels in the area are not; the feeling is that hotel keepers don't want to attract everybody, but to keep the type of customers that are appealed by the hotel. The Marmara Antalya is highly recommended. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from July 21, 2006 and were very pleased with our stay. Though the location of the hotel is not that great, everything else is very good. In particular; 1. The hotel building is very stylish and has apparently been designed by a very good taste 2. The food is very tasty and fresh 3. The fitness section is well equipped 4. The staff is helpful.

stayed at The Marmara Antalya 9 nights. The Marmara is a very new 5 star design-hotel, 6 km from the city center. you can reach the city center easily by bus or dolmus. the hotel has a litle private beach (rocks / no sand) that you can reach via lift from the very large and very beatiful garden. in the garden there is also a very large pool. the rooms are very symple but stylish decorated. we had a room at the 19th floor with a beautiful view to the sea an the mountains. there a no balconies. everything in the room was clean and new and... more
