We were two family parties consisting of two adult’s two primary aged children.
Don't believe everything you read. This hotel really isn't as bad as some of the reviews you may have read.
This was our first all inclusive holiday and overall it was very much what I expected for a 3 star. The cleanliness was exemplary and the food was good, especially the English Breakfast, with a great deal of choice at each sitting.
Avoid the food at the pool snack bar as it is gross! Greasy fried food and a few limp sandwiches.
The hotel is extremely safe for young children, as everything is housed close together. The pools are not really big enough to accommodate two hotels and yes you do have to put a towel on a sun bed at sunrise if you want one!
We opted to pay 4 euros per bed on the beach to avoid the noise and hassle over sun beds.
Staff were really friendly and helpful!
When booking ask for a sea view, you'll be glad you did.
Overall, worth a visit if you can get a good deal when booking. We paid £1500 for a family of four, for one week.

Jul 2007, Mr A Walton

Our Stay at this hotel was out of this world the lycra clad staff went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate our holiday requirements, it was so funny, the food was about right for this star hotel , although a pie in the village went down well after a gallon or so of jack on the beach !!
All the staff were fantastic and entertainment each night was first class
Rooms were very clean and the maids were friendly
We would recommend adding vodka or two to the cocktails to give them a kick
See you next year

I spent one week at the Marina...

Jul 2007, Mr S Stefano

I spent one week at the Marina Skorpios Hotel and it has been the worst vacation of my life. The beach is too small for two hotels like Skorpios and Corfù, and the swimming pool is not much larger than a bathtub.
During the morning and during the afternoon you'll hear children screaming and loud music playing from the stage, with no chance to stay in silence and relax. And every night the live show will keep you awake even though you are in you're room and want to sleep.
In the sea there are lots of jellyfish that make impossible to have relaxing swimming.
There are no other activities to do (wind surfing or something) and the mini golf is not included and each person has to pay 5 euros to play.
Near the hotel there's nothing to do, only some shops to visit and restaurants. If you want to do something (even only take a walk) you'll have to go to Cala d'or by taxi or rent a car or a scooter.
I suggest to save your money or spend it somewhere else.

Jul 2007, Mrs A Bryan

Beware! These sister hotels share two pools and it is absolute hell trying to get a sun bed, people queue then it is a free for all because there is just not enough space for every guest.
It is like being in a sardine can.
We have stayed at numerous all Inclusive Hotels but this has to be the worst for quality of food, the meats served were mostly things like offal e.g. Liver, ham knuckles, cottage pie full of fat etc.
We stayed in the Corfu and the furnishings, decoration, & furniture are decidedly tired and worn. We asked to stay in the Skorpios but were told on arrival that we couldn’t. We also asked for a sea view but the only way we could see the Sea was to lean over the balcony.
The beds were dreadful nylon mattresses and the springs dug in when you tried to turn over.
The pillows were badly stained and did not particularly smell too good. The toilet seat was broken as was the television controls, when we complained they changed the toilet seat but were told that if we wanted to control the television we would have to pay a deposit of 20 Euros to get a remote for the television.
We most definitely will not be staying at this Hotel again and will not be booking a holiday through Direct Holidays.

We had a very enjoyable week at the Skorpios Marina. The location is perfect. Beautiful small beach & pretty views facing the sea.
Unfortunately our room was facing the small road & apartments. The staff were friendly, but I felt the hotel lacked atmosphere. There was entertainment during the day & at night, the entertainment team were lovely & done their best.
The food was OK, nothing special, but clean with a fair amount of choice. In all it was good value for money.
There were plenty of bars restaurants, supermarkets & a few nice shops within easy walking distance. The bus stop & taxi rank were also very near the Hotel.

Jul 2007, Sandy35

Went to the Skorpios in the 1st and 2nd weeks of June. Party of 4 adults and 3 children.
There is a bad smell problem. It does smell like the drains but the smell from this comes into the resort & hotel area and is not just confined to the front.
The activities for kids are pretty good for 11 year olds and under but the older kids (like ours) did get bored quite a bit.
The food is poor, even for a 3 star hotel, but what do you expect for all inclusive?
The sea view is quite nice but not if you get stuck in the front half of the hotel then the view is over roads and buildings.
The entertainment was good to bad, depending on which nights; I guess this is the norm these days.
We did see a few groups of young adults about drinking quite heavily and they were quite noisy after the entertainment had finished, but this normally ended around 2 in the morning, so if you wanted an early night do go down to the local shops to get ear plugs!
The hotel is clean enough but is very basic, again very basic even for a 3 star hotel.
The staff were ok, not rude, but not always overly helpful either.
All in all this entire hotel is ok if you like that sort of thing, a cheap, cheesy, holiday with little expectations, but sorry not for us and will try somewhere else another time.

I stayed at the Skorpios with my husband, parents and 11 year old son from 29th May until 12th June and had a great holiday.
I didn't notice any children badly misbehaving. Obviously kids will be kids and there were a few whingeing toddlers in the dining room, but this must be expected if you go to one of these large, all inclusive, family orientated places, with kids clubs and entertainment.
I also didn't witness anybody the worse for drink and we were outside watching the very good entertainment most nights. Particularly loved the Queen Tribute band and comedian. My family said they hadn't laughed so much in years!
I couldn't pick fault with anything. The hotel was spotless, the maids and all other staff were very friendly and more helpful than I have ever experienced on previous holidays.
My son joined in with many of the kid’s activities and thought the entertainers were lovely. I even needed a doctor one evening and the receptionist had one come to the room within about 10 minutes.
The food was quite basic but very enjoyable. Surely you shouldn't expect Gordon Ramsey standards from a 3 star hotel?
The only smell I noticed was from the drains as you walked along the front of the hotel, which didn’t really affect anybody.
The sea view from the balconies really is fabulous and the beach and pool lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anybody, as long as they like children.
Just one warning to any older visitors or people with walking difficulties. The brochures and websites fail to mention that it is quite difficult to get from the hotel to the pool area and beach. There are two lots of steps leading down. One has only a flimsy rope to hold on to. The other steeper steps have a very low handrail only really the height suitable for small children.

We arrived at this hotel to find it was absolutely spotless, the reception staff were so friendly and helpful.
The rooms are spacious with 3 beds in but still plenty of room to manoeuvre and were cleaned with towels changed daily, and a good air con machine which came in very handy.
The dining hall is large never once did we have to get wait for a table. You are met at the doors by the restaurant staff or the manager, who may I say is drop dead gorgeous, my niece had a large crush on him, he looks like Donny Osmond what more can I say!
The food is excellent always a large selection for everyone even a veggie section, you don’t go hungry try the moose its gorgeous. Around the whole of the hotel is plenty of seating in or outside so you can relax when need be.
Entertainment is mediocre but the comedian is hilarious, also the Beatles tribute is worth watching too. Magdalena the Polish woman behind the bar is lovely we all took a shine to her.
The pool is very hard to get a bed around we only managed it once in the 2 weeks we were there, but the sea is like a pool anyway so that’s were we went to.
What more can I say no faults what so ever only just mind the floor and stairs they are VERY slippery We are all going back next year it’s that good can’t wait!

We travelled to the Marina Skorpios...

Jun 2007, Mrs M Loads

We travelled to the Marina Skorpios on 14 June 2007 - Three of us aged 42, 36, and 2.
Shortly before departing we read some of the recent reviews of this hotel on this web site and were horrified. What had been months of anticipation suddenly turned to real concern.
However, upon arrival, all our fears were allayed. The reception staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The public areas were spotless, bright airy and modern. The hotel room had a breath taking view over the bay!
The rooms all seemed to have three beds and were a decent size. Pre-child, my husband and I travelled abroad many times staying in 3 and 4 star accommodation - this certainly rates as a good 3 star plus.
The food in the hotel restaurant was in line with the selection you would expect at a 3 star accommodation - not going to win any a la carte awards but good - my husband is quite picky with his food and he was still happy. There was a kid’s separate buffet in the evening and there was a vegetarian selection for those that wanted it.
My 2 year old loved the mini disco - we didn’t stay up for the rest of the entertainment as this was past his bed time.
I can imagine that in school holidays when the hotel Skorpios and the Corfu are both fully booked the beach and the pool areas may become a bit busy as they are not huge, however, at the time we went they were fine.
The resort itself was a lot bigger than we had been expecting from the holiday brochure and was fantastic for families - probably not suitable for wheelchairs or people wholly dependent on prams/buggies as the kerbs are not lowered.
A taxi into Cala D’or costs about 5 Euros - you will need a taxi it would be too far (and uphill) to walk it.

Very noisy resort with many unsupervised children causing damage in the hotels.
Very poor choice of food, better to go to the local restaurants each night for your meals.
Staff are not very helpful.
We stayed at this resort in June and were very surprised at how badly run the hotels were after reading some of the good reviews.
I do not know what has happened to this resort but it certainly is not worthy of even 3 stars, this has got to be only a 2 star rating.
The smell is awful, a constant strong smell of sewage across the resort.
Avoid this hotel for a holiday.

Jun 2007, Mr Dave D

Beware. If you want to stay at the Skorpios do not book through travel agent, book your room direct with the hotel!
We arrived to be informed the hotel was over booked and we had to go over to the Corfu hotel! 3 other families and the same problem on the same day!
This used to be a good hotel but its standards have slipped sharply. We have been here 5 times since 2000 but this time around it had lost its sparkle.
The staff have been halved and they are worked off their feet. There is less choice of food and most of it is cold by the time you get to eat it.
There are many good reviews on here for this hotel but I can only say that their expectations are not high. As 3 star hotels go this has now become very average and I'm afraid that this hotel and its sister hotel are being run down, I'd expect these hotels to be closed down within 5 - 10 years. Most of the guests are either louts or families getting drunk. If you want a noisy time at night with a lot of shouting, laughing and chair movement then come here, if you want a more relaxing time then avoid the Skorpios.
Alas we used to love this place but it has become so dire now we will not return again, it's a sad day.

9 / 10
Jun 2007, Mrs J Rose

My mum and I spent a week at the Marina Skorpios and we had a very pleasant stay.
The room was clean and plenty of room for the 2 of us. There were 3 single beds (the 3rd bed served as somewhere to keep the suitcases!). I did feel for those who had someone sleeping in the 3rd bed as I would imagine it a little crowded but for us, it was fine, cleaned every day, new towels etc.
We emailed the hotel in advanced for a sea view and boy, what a view! We were almost hanging over the sea-it was fantastic. The only downside was the noise of people going back to their rooms after the entertainment had finished and the bar was closed, and also people messing about on the beach but after about 1am it all went very quiet and all we could hear was the sea!
The food was great, breakfast, lunch and dinner were all buffet style and very casual and relaxed, if a little canteen-ish.
During the day however, the hotel didn't really suit us. It was very family oriented so the pool was crowded and noisy and the beach was quite small and the sand wasn't very nice.
So every day we would walk into Cala Egos to the D'es Pou/Es Forti beach which was brill. Quite busy but nicer sunbeds (12 Euros for 2 sunbeds and a parasol). It was only about 15 mins walk past all the shops so we used to go back to the hotel for lunch and then walk back down to the beach!
I would also recommend the Tennis Bar/restaurant which is just by the beach and offers a more peaceful area to sunbathe and really relax. Here you can hire the sunbeds with cushions for the same price as on the beach and they have a pool which is fantastic-we were the only people in it!
I would also recommend The Corner restaurant for a great snack and the beautician round the corner gave us a lovely pedicure when we wanted to escape from the sun for a bit.
On the first day, to get our bearings, we walked through the Marina into Cala D'or which took about 45 mins and we spent the first day on the Cala Gran beach was also nice. For a fixed price of 5 Euros one way you can get a taxi into Cala D'or or for 6 Euros each for a round trip you get the cute tourist train which was fun and a good way of getting to know the resort.
In summary, I would definitely recommend the Skorpios for families and for those that just want a base to explore from. It’s not really for couples.
The resort of Cala Egos is bigger than you might think with everything you could possibly need and everyone was so friendly, I can't wait to go back.
