We had a pleasant room overlooking the lake and mountains, delightful to sit on the balcony and watch the sun set. Everything about this hotel is first class, the service, room, food, location and staff were all excellent. In fact it was so good we are going back, which... more

Absolutely wonderful!
We had a room for 238 Euro per night and stayed for 2 nights. We had a small balcony overlooking the lake, mountains and 'pool in the lake.' The room was very comfortable and the view was absolutely incredible - truly breathtaking. The town itself is very cute, a bit touristy, but worth a day or two. They even play the Sound of Music on their in-house channel. The breakfast was wonderful and we dined in the more casual of the restaurants two nights in a row and enjoyed the food (but I'm glad we didn't have 1/2 or full board over an extended period as the food can get a bit monotonous). We loved strolling around the town but were most content lounging in the 2 pools and enjoying our comfortable room. We can't wait to go again. Be sure to spend some time in the magnificent church right next to the hotel.
Lovely Hotel
I have just returned from staying at this hotel for one week. The hotel is quite lovely and the food excellent value for money. The pool in the lake is quite breathtaking and the scenery stunning. The bedroom was nice and cleaned every day although it could have done with abit of updating. Most of the hotel staff were friendly but one or two were abit on the snobby side....my only complaint with this hotel was dinner was served between 6.30pm and 8.00pm at night, with no entertainment put on for the guests in the evening. Everything seemed to shut down after 8.30pm at night. Also they didn't really tell you about what was going on in St Wolfgang i.e. firework displays and the local bands. St Wolfgang is a beautiful village situated on a lovely lake but at night or during the day nothing much going on. You have to go on the excursions otherwise you seem to just go walking around in circles or tucked up in bed by 10pm each night. Worth a visit anytime!!!!
Absolutely Fabulous!
Just been back to the hotel for the third year running and again it was beautiful and we were well looked after. We got married in the area two years ago and have been back three times since. The rooms are traditionally decorated (not 1970's) and the hotel has been run by the same family for centuries and is in keeping with tradition. All the staff are welcoming and very helpful. They will try to acccommodate any wishes. This year we went for our Anniversary again and we were welcomed with chocolates and an Anniversary card. I had ordered some champagne for our arrival which was there in our room. The pools and spa are very clean and as usual I had a spa treatment and used my voucher for a free treatment also (another perk of the hotel). The food is excellent and they have certain days where you have local dishes. Plus on a Sunday a champagne breakfast! All round a lovely hotel for a nice relaxing break.
Exceeded our expectations
My husband and I stayed at the hotel for a week before Christmas as a birthday treat. We have had two summer holidays in St. Wolfgang and have always wanted to stay at 'Im Weissen Rossl'. We were in no way disappointed. Our room, with its balcony facing the lake, was warm, spacious and comfortable. We didn't hear a single noise, either from outside, where the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, or from any of the nearby rooms or corridors, despite being quite close to the lift. Bathrobes and towels to use in the spa area were provided, as were kagouls and an umbrella, should they be necessary, and we thought that these were a very nice touch. All the staff were polite, friendly and professional. The service we received was excellent at all times, particularly in the bar and restaurant. We enjoyed the food, especially the breakfasts. At breakfast on Sunday morning champagne is served and you are entertained by an excellent pianist. There are very few seats in the restaurant where you don't have a wonderful view of the lake. The public areas are all very well-furnished and comfortable and also have lake views. The spa facilities are excellent, but because there were so many things to do in St. Wolfgang and its environs we didn't have the time to use them as much as we would have liked. Several times a week it is possible to go on a tour of the hotel, where certain facilities that you may not be immediately aware of are pointed out. It is well worth taking the tour as soon as possible during your stay. We wish that we'd have gone on it earlier. We were even shown the bridal suite as it was vacant while we were there! Our week passed all too quickly and we enjoyed every minute of it. We will certainly be returning to this wonderful hotel.
Charming place to stay
I thought this was a delightful hotel - good service, decent rooms (and it was especially nice to find single travellers weren't relegated to the worst rooms as one sometimes finds). the food was fine, and the staff were very amenable to making changes to the set menu for half board if one didn't care for the choices. The setting is great.
Best hotel in St.Wolfgang!
Lovely hotel, (made world famous in the 1930's operetta "Im weissen Rössl"), stunning panoramic views of lake and mountains, friendly staff, instantaneous service ( we jammed our room safe, and the porter appeared and fixed it in two minutes flat!) delicious food, free champagne on our last night, large comfortable room with fridge, minibar and fruit and plenty of wardrobe space. Also fluffy robes and slippers provided. Infinity swimming pool floating in the lake, heated to 30 degrees all year round. Private motor boat to sunbathing green with loungers. Hotel " newspaper" at breakfast each day with weather reports and local "what's on " guide. Free international papers. Reception staff v. helpful and multilingual. St.Wolfgang beautiful town with always something going on - brass bands, folk festivals, air shows, cog railway up mountain, tennis courts, superb cake and coffee shops etc. We had wonderful holiday and would gladly go again.
Good hotel but in need of some updating
Stayed in April 2006 for 1 night whilst on a tour of the area. Stayed in a twin room with a view of the lake. Room was very dated and needs urgently updating. Very dark laminated wood in 1970's style. Room not that well equipped for the money (170 euro per night). Restaurant is the only one I have every encountered in Austria that has a cover charge - also watch out they charge for each piece of bread you eat! Hotel does have a heated outdoor swimming pool situated in the lake. Rather a waste of energy in the middle of April with snow on the ground - this would account for the high prices, I dread to think what their fuel bills must be! Food was above average but again very expensive and the restaurant in general was rather pretentious. Wished I had not booked into restaurant for dinner as whilst walking around the village later in the evening found there was a superb restaurant just around the corner. Good breakfast in the morning usual Austrian buffet etc. Hotel parking is situated about a 15 min walk away from the hotel - you can park outside to drop off luggage etc.
Nice hotel but room for improvement
Just returned from this hotel which we chose for our 10th wedding anniversary. Our 13th stay in Austria in the summer & our 2nd visit to St Wolfgang. The hotel is very nice & in an excellent location in the centre of the resort & we were pleased with our room which included a small balcony & lake view. The choice of food, however, was a little disappointing with limited imagination. Half board guests have a 4 course evening meal with usually a visit to the starter/salad buffet (identical each evening), followed by a soup course then a choice of main course. The main course was always meat, fish or vegetarian. In the 7 nights we were there, the meat course was 'boiled beef' on 2 occasions which was quite a poor dish for this class of establishment & veal on 2 other evenings. Having said that, the quality of food was very good. A set dessert concluded the meal although it was an option to replace this with cheese or ice-cream. Guests could opt to eat in the a la carte restaurant which would set you back 52 euro (approx 36 GBP) for a 7 course menu. The leisure facilities at this hotel were good with a heated indoor pool & a heated outdoor pool set into the lake. The steam rooms were not as good as some hotels & were well away from the sauna area which was strange. Service overall at this hotel was ok, although nothing special. It was also disappointing that we had to arrange something ourselves for our anniversary evening meal as the hotel claimed not to have been advised by our tour operator of the special occasion. The anniversary gift & card advertised were also not forthcoming despite a mention at reception. St Wolfgang is a very nice resort in a beautiful setting & we will certainly return here again although unlikely we will pay the premium rate for this hotel which doesn't quite live up to it's reputation.
Wonderful Holiday
Wolfgang and I went to celebrate his 60th birthday. Stayed at this hotel as it was the same hotel his parents spent their honeymoon and thus he was conceived and thus the name Wolfgang came about. We were not disappointed at all with anything at this beautiful hotel. Everyone treated us as though we were the most important people in the hotel, the food was delicious, the services incredible, the spa was wonderful and it is centrally located so you can walk everywhere. Can't wait to go back again. Our suite was beautiful and overlooked the lake. We felt like family with everyone who worked there. It is also a beautiful time of year to be there using all the facilities on the lake. We loved it so much that we stayed for 3 nights instead of 2 nights.
my haven
Fab hotel, fantastic location, excellent facilities, always someting for everyone, walks, boating, talks, visits, family/childrens activities, beauty/health area, never pushy always available. or just relax on the sum deck pool area. Food superb. esp.b/fast. best anywhere. Highly recomended if you enjoy traditional independant Hotels at their best.
