We arrived as a family of 4 at 2.30am to be told we only had a room with 3 beds but will be moved in the morning, this was fine because we just wanted to get our heads down. We never got moved and never had a 4th bed put in the room, as well as 2 adults and 2 kids fighting... more

What a nightmare
Well I could go on & on about this place it was a disaster from start to finish, It was just a last minute holiday I booked with my two kids 5 & 1 1/2 at the time. We were half board basis but the food wasn't edible not even for a dog there was no menu telling us what we were eating we just had to guess, there was nothing for kids except chips. No entertainment on, playground for kids but wouldn't set foot in it,they had crazy golf but didn't supply the balls for it, Need I say any more. There is no where in the resort to buy nappies or baby food or even cold milk from the fridge it is like something from the dark ages lucky I had enough nappies with me. Staff are rude and unhelpful wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. Stay away
Surprisingly good hotel, Don't believe all the poor reviews on here
We stayed at the Monteverde Hotel in September 2006. Okay, it will never win any prizes for luxury, but what it lacks in luxury it makes up for in other things. We had a room in the annexe next door, the Monteverde 2. It was large, clean and quiet. As it was at the back it didn't hve a good aspect, but views of the mountains at the back. The bathroom was clean, and although once we had a shortage of hot water for the rest of the holiday there was plenty. We were on half board, and both breakfast and dinner were buffet style. The quality was better than previous reviews mde us expect, always a good choice and no problem with "mix and match". By the end of the holiday some items weregetting a bit repetitive, but otherwise we had little problem with the meals. Lunch unfortunately was adifferent matter, for those in our party who wished to just spend the day around the pool it was a choice of burgers and chips, and the chip machine was broken! Locally the caves of Draq are two minutes walk away, and if you are in the hotel at lunchtime, use their (surprisingly good and cheap) cafeteria. The hotel facilities were okay; a good bar that got busy late at night, the swimming pool was safe, pool table okay (but the equivalent of a pound a game!) and there was a good lounge area with Internet access. The rooms were cleaned daily, although sheets were only changed three times in the week. But so what,..... I only change bedding once a week at home! The staff were always happy to help, and always friendly. Porto Cristo is lovely! A bit of a walk to the marina, but there are buses, and the beach is small but very clean. It's one of those places that has enough to keep people busy and interested, but not so over developed as other parts of the island. I usually hate drinking in "British bars", but I must recommend Bar Alibi, a few minutes down the road. Quirky opening hours, but friendly service and good entertainment. Dave and Shirley will surely give you a friendly welcome! ( tell them that Ali, Olive, Jemima, Andrew, Alisdair and the others say hello )
Don't trust the bad reviews on this hotel!
I returned yesterday from the Monteverde and felt that I should put a fair review on the web. Firstly, I like others, was very afraid of what I would find when I got there. However, we arrived in the early hours of the morning and were given our key very quickly. The room was spotless, and ok there was no air conditioning, but it was only for a week and it wasn't the end of the world. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels provided daily too. The pool was also very, very clean, and the food was totally edible. I suffer from some food allergies, but found that there was always something I could eat. There was salad, two different meats each day, a pasta dish, usually some fish and every day there were chips. There was unlimited fruit both fresh and tinned, with plenty of delicious ice cream in 5 different flavours. During our visit, the hotel was teeming with French students who were very high spirited, but like us they were on holiday and letting their hair down. The trick was to get into the restaurant before them as they were like a plague of locusts, and very little was left after they had filled up! I admit that if you have difficulty in walking the hotel is a little out of the way, but there is a short cut down some steps to the Marina, which is absolutely beautiful. Also, there is a bus stop right outside the front gates, and the buses are cheap and reliable. We are middle aged and went for a break to recharge our batteries, and that's exactly what we did. The Caves of Drach which are 5 mins walk from the hotel are stunning, and well worth a visit. The town is delightful as it is not over commercialised, and the locals were very helpful in the bars and restaurants. We found that the staff in the hotel were very helpful if you treated them with respect. I am not fluent in Spanish, but know enough to earn their respect by trying! Also, there are some English staff in the bar. I feel that having paid £219 for a week's half-board at the Monteverde it represented excellent value - I was not naive enough to think that for that price I was booking the Ritz! Ok, it is definitely a 2 star, but I had a nightmare stay in a 3 star in Turkey last year. I hope this will help other travellers, because I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and feel that some people are just being nit picky. As long as it is clean, then all other problems are minimal. It is, after all, just a base to visit the area. I was told by the owners of the bar down the road that the hotel had been leased out for several years and this is when it became run down, but the original owners have now taken it back and are trying to build it up. Do not be afraid to book this hote!
It's the little things that count.............
Just returned yesterday from a week's stay at the Monteverde Hotel. Overall, our holiday was good but this hotel really does live up to its 2 star rating! Some advice for travellers......take a fan!!!! There is no air conditioning and the rooms are roasting!!! If you can, ask for a room at the front of the hotel (sea view) as the sun moves to the rear of the hotel by about 1pm - this made such a difference to us as it meant our room was not in the full heat of the sun all day. There are fans, fridges etc available to hire from reception but they require 24 hours notice so you should request on arrival. We had booked half board however we ate out 5 evenings from 7 since the food was so bad! Breakfast is ok (although be careful with the milk as some mornings it was a bit sour!) but dinner tends to be very limited choice. The staff at the hotel, although very pleasant, have very limited English. Trying to order 2 bottles of water at the pool bar became our daily chore!! It wasn't all bad.........we found the hotel to be very clean and the pool was a decent size. There are also tennis courts, crazy golf and table tennis available free of charge. Beware the offer of late checkout!!! We had agreed with reception that we would require a late checkout but on our day of departure the maids arrived at 2pm and ordered us out! When discussed with reception they said that they needed the rooms because the hotel was now full. There are courtesy showers available in the basement of the hotel but they flood very easily so if required, use as early as possible!! The resort of Porto Cristo is lovely but a bit of a ghost town!! There is no entertainment provided by the hotel during the week and the nightclubs in Porto Cristo only open on Friday and Saturday. If you want a good night out head for the street next to El Pino Bar on a Satuday night - it's full of locals but there is plenty of choice for bars and lots of current chart music being played. Final warning: if you are booking through a company called Goldtrail please thoroughly check your holiday details. There were four separate groups, including us, at our hotel who had booked with Goldtrail and we had all been given the wrong information. There is no rep available and you have to contact the company by 'phone which is not the easiest task when in Spain!!! We didn't have a bad holiday as such but we just couldn't relax completely as there were too many small things that just didn't sit easy with us. We won't be rushing back here that's for sure!!
would not send my worst enemy here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Myself and my husband booked a last min holiday here, any other hotel in Majorca I have stayed in even when last min were always acceptable, this place is the pitts. The resort is a quiet fishing port which is ideal if you wish a quiet holiday and the views are incredible from the cliffs. The local resturants are wondeful and very reasonable which is just as well if you stay at the monteverde. It is very hard to find anything positive to say about this hotel,it's only saving grace is the swimming pool. The temperatures were in the nineties but the rooms have no air-con or fridges,so you melt away and dehydrate because the water begins to heat as soon as you buy it and drinking warm water is just not pleasant. You have to wait ages to be served at the bar and even longer if the french barman does not rate you. The bar staff also have difficulty pinning down a price you can easily be overcharged without the blink of an eye and if you have the cheek to question him he keeps charging you the higher price and blatently charges someone next to you a lower price for the same order. The seating area outside the bar is filthy the tables are so old they are permanently discolored The piste au resistance has to be the 'Santa Maria Resturant' you are supposed to eat here, the place is caos no order no seating plan and in the evening no kind of dress code, the food however can even surpass all the other faults, one evening the plates were left swimming in water you literally had to dry the plates off with napkins, the unused plates were left for the breakfast overnight in those temps water is the biggest breeding ground for bacteria, the place was filthy, the staff unhelpful, the food disgraceful most of it unfit for human consumtion. Even the locals say this hotel has had a bad rep for years, please do not go,by all means visit majorca but steer clear ot this hell hole.
great value for money
This hotel was great value for money. We got a last minute booking and were worried after reading the reviews but neednt have been. I found the staff to be very helpfull and friendly. The hotel its self was clean and tidy as was the pool area. The only downfall was the lack of entertainment in the hotel but with the local town only 5minutes walk away this isnt a problem. It caters for all tastes with many Cafe style resturants or specialist restruants which are open day and night till the last person leaves. Also there is a fantastic British pub 2mins down the same road called Alibi which is run by a very friendly couple and their dog. This offered entertainment on selected nights and was a great place to meet locals and tourists.it was very relaxed and we spent most nights in there. The food was fine with different varietys of the same thing every day i.e meat, veg, pasta, chips, salads and many dessarts Would def go to this place again as it was so cheep and very enjoyable
Good value hotel
Recently stayed at the Monteverde in Porto Cristo. Firstly the resort is excellent, not too touristy and has lots of lovely bars and restaurants. I was a little worried after reading the reviews on here about the hotel. I neednt of worried. The hotel is absolutely fine and well worth the money we paid for it. If you want to pay for a five star, pay for a five star, but we wanted a cheapy get away and got our moneys worth. We stayed on a HB basis and the food was edible every night. We did eat out twice because we fancied a change and there are lovely places close by. The pool is great with plenty of room to sunbathe and check in was quick and easy. The rooms were a little dated but spacious and clean. If a cheap offer came up again for this hotel I wouldnt hestate to book again.
You'll need a sense of humour
This hotel is quite something, very late in adding my review - but I'm actually booking this year's holiday and this website is so useful I thought I would add my comments. We travelled on an all inclusive basis, we realised we were taking a risk as the cost was less expensive than self catering. The hotel is hot in August (no air con), so you have to sleep with windows open and listen to the road noise along with dogs barking and even peacocks calling!! The room was okay although there were quite a few electrical wires hanging from behind the bathroom mirror - not ever so safe!! We ate out most of the time as the food wasn't great especially for vegetarians, we were also told off on some occasions in the restaurant for sitting at an unmade table - when there were none free that were made! Well at least we got our drinks free - after queuing single file for a drink in a plastic (small) cup. Actually we really enjoyed this holiday because we spent most of our time out of the hotel, (no alarm clocks required as you get up when you hear everyone else) I think more people who stay here should get out a bit and then the town (which is lovely) may get back more of it's restaurants and bars. As I said if you have a sense of humour and just treat this hotel as a base go to the beach every day and eat out you'll have a great time!!
Very Good!
Stayed at this hotel 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it!! The food was excellent with alot of veriety, the staff were very friendly and loved to help us with any problems which of we had!! The location is quite quiet but is really nice, the caves of Drach are just opposite which are absolutely stunning! My 2 children were really well accomodated for, they were entertained all day by the animation team and thouroughly enjoyd there stay here!! The hotel has recently been renovated 3 months ago and is excellent!! I would reccomend this hotel to familys and couples!!
DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL
The hotel monte verde will pose a real threat to you and yours health and saftey. We booked an all inclusive holiday through Global late deals who assured me that the hotel was three star accomodation with a full entertainment programme. The hotel was/had neither, I can only describe this hotel as a ghetto in the sun. The food was unfit for human consumption, the four days I lasted I survived on chip sandwiches, the staff are the rudest most uncaring, unhelpful people I have ever come across. The standard of cleanliness is unacceptable, this holiday was truley a Holiday from Hell. Please be aware that this hotel often changes name and has featured on Holidays from hell and Watchdog. I moved my party at a cost of £900 so that we could preserve our health and salvage something from the holiday. Please do not let any tour operator talk you into going to this Hole as you will really regret it BE WARNED !!!
