Absolutely awful hotel - we had to butter our toast with forks, as there were no knives!

Unfortunately, we did not read the reviews on this site about Monteverde. Have just recently returned from a stay there and I have to agree with all these bad reviews (haven't seen a single good review). Not going to repeat what the other reviewers have said - our experience of the hotel was pretty much the same. One of the 'highlights' I have to say was when we went down to Reception to ask them something and the receptionist was on the phone to someone who clearly had a lot of questions... He looked clearly irritated by the caller and after a few minutes said to the caller: "Look, do you have any more questions, because I have people waiting." My partner and I were too shocked at the level of customer service to do anything but laugh at the whole situation. It was either laugh or cry.... and we didn't want to spoil our holiday. We still had a fantastic holiday - just tried to stay away from the hotel as much as possible and it all worked out fine.

Well what is there to say..... Fawlty Towers has nothing on this venue... If you paid me lots of money i would NOT stay there again. We arrived in the early hours on a sunday morning to be greeted by the most unfriendly man i have ever met... He doesn't even warrant being labelled 'RUDE', that's far too kind.
We were a party of four (2 adults, 2 children) and after lots of paper shuffleing (which took in excess of an hour) were told in broken English that they had no booking for us so we would have to sort it out in the morning.... After some persuasion we were offered either a 2 or 3 bedroomed apartment... we took the 3...
The next day we approached reception and spoke with one of the owners sons, Andreous... He was very helpful and apologetic and found us a room with 4 beds, although we did have to wait 6 hours for it... The poor man seemed to be the only one who knew what he was doing, the rest of them beggered belief!!! Rudeness, unapproachable, argumentative, non-interested to name a few...
We then sampled the delights of the restaurant food.... Same old same old... If u wanted a boiled egg for breakfast u needed to peel off the shell, the hard skin underneath displayed the fact that these eggs had been cooked some hours earlier....... The queue for the toast (the only decent food for breakfast) left u standing there til lunch (ok a slight exaggeration but not that far off!). We ate out half the time we were there due to the lack of variety in the food (certainly NOT for children, and mine eat anything)...
The local town of Porto Cristo is lovely, and the beach is surrene and beautiful.... It really isn't great for children and families. If ur an older couple wanting a quiet holiday then u will enjoy the town, please don't book at the Monte Verde though, u will be very disappointed!!!!
The saving grace for the holiday was that the drinks were included in the all inclusive price, although the waiter in the restaurant would only give 4 small glasses of water, bottles were out of the question!!! Even though they were taken directly from the tap.............. The maid service was excellent too, room was cleaned most days and they were the only polite staff there (other than Andreous)......
Having read my review u may summarise and also be objective to booking a room at the hotel Monte Verde... As a normally very laid back family I have to say i would never pay to go there again.
Look at another hotel if u would like to stay in Porto Cristo. Happy hunting

  • Advice: Don't say there... Porto Cristo is beautiful and for older couples, not families

Whilst there we counted 12 families that were turned away because they were overbooked.....even though these families were supposed to be booked into this hotel.
Try as I might, I can't think of one good thing to say.....
Food was horrendous, take plenty of money to eat out! Stale bread and boiled eggs for breakfast, cold pasta and rice, lettuce tomato and I think it was some kind of fish for lunch, lunchtime leftovers for tea, drinks were limited, bar staff were rude!
On the wednesday my daughter cut her foot quite badly on the broken and ragged tiles at the bottom of the murky green pool. She couldn't swim for the rest of the holiday. Although one member of hotel staff was quite helpful in cleaning and dressing her foot, he told us it would be Sunday before the tiles could be fixed! In the meantime the pool was left open to the rest of the residents, remained uncleaned, and no warning signs were put up. We left on the sunday, so I don't know whether it ever did get fixed.
The first couple of days there was a sign up stating that ice creams were free between 10am and 11pm....this wasn't the case....the limited number of ice creams and lolly ices that were available were 1 euro each.....so once the hotel staff noticed people taking photos of the sign, obviously to add to their complaints list on arriving home, the sign was removed. At this point, another sign was put up stating that only one drink at a time could be served at the bar! So if you expect hubby to go to the bar and get the wife and kids a drink, forget it! He'd have to queue several times, taking approx 40 minutes!
We were unlucky enough to be in a room at the front of the hotel directly above reception. We spent our nights sat on the balcony watching the comings and goings....it was the highlight of our holiday....you couldn't sleep because it was so noisy!
One night we watched a member of staff transfer a family of 6 and himself to another hotel.....in a 5 seater car! On his return he piled all the rubbish into his car, assumably to dispose of elsewhere.....he then returned in the same car approx 1 hour later with clean towels and bedding loaded in the boot and on the back seats where the rubbish had previously been.
Oh, and to top it all, on our arrival on the first night we were greeted by a rat running down the wall adjacent to the pool.

We arrived as a family of 4 at 2.30am to be told we only had a room with 3 beds but will be moved in the morning, this was fine because we just wanted to get our heads down. We never got moved and never had a 4th bed put in the room, as well as 2 adults and 2 kids fighting over 3 pillows. We only ever had 3 towels which were never changed. I managed to get a 4th towel from reception on one occasion only to have the cleaner take it away the next day.
The food is a massive problem for this hotel. We got to breakfast on our 1st morning only to find there was nothing left but stale pieces of french stick. We asked if there was anything else, only to be told 'no more'. Everyday they put out chicken drumsticks, lunch and evening meal, this is ok if you eat meat of a bone, also the salad in the evening had tuna in it, again, this is ok if you eat fish. There just wasnt enough variety. We over heard 1 family complaining at reception about the food, for them to be told, 'all you English eat is burger and chips', how rude.
The swimming pool was ok, a lack of sunbeds was a problem. 14 beds for a hotel with 7 floors is no where near enough.
Some of the bar staff were very abrupt and definaletly not child friendly. Ice-creams were not included in the all inclusive but when booking the holiday it stated they were. A big lack of entertainment, a spanish man playing a single keyboard is not entertainment.
This hotel does have a lot of potential. It seems as though, as things have failed, they have not been repaired and left to rot.
The local beach and town is lovely and we recommend you visit. We also got a local bus into Cala Millor which we loved and would definately go back to.

We stayed here for a week. We had read the reviews before we booked, but wanted a last minute cheap deal and some sunshine.
Upon arrival we were told "problem" there were no available rooms. We were taken by a friend of the night porter in the back of a fiat punto to Club Cala Romani about 20 mins away and spent 2 days and 1 night there, which was a really nice hotel (I heard of this happening to another lady and she was taken to a hostel with her 13 yr old daughter with no food included or swimming pool)and all inclusive with a packed evening entertainment schedule.
The rooms at Monteverde are adequate, no tv or aircon, clean and basic. The food really lets this place down, lack of choice and quantity. I find people always moan about AI food but this really is poor.
There is a distinct lack of sun loungers around the pool, and the hotel next door (where you go to eat) share the pool as they have no pool. This said we had a lovely week's holiday Porto Cristo is a lovely place and the beach and town are a 10 min walk away.
I wouldn't recommend this hotal for people with young children as there is no entertainment.

The food is mostly salad, rice or pasta dishes, and lots of fish, which are rewarmed up or added to for the next day, nothing is labelled so you dont know what you are eatting, my daughter had a bad reaction to something she ate at the hotel and her face swelled up and her eyes nearly closed shut, she stayed in her room for 4 out of the 7days that we stayed there missing out on most of her holiday, the bottled water at meal times was out of the tap and gave everyone upset bellies. There was a row in the bar most nights with the guest and bar staff as they only allowed one drink per person, which is not good if you are a big family like us and have to drag the kids to the bar to get there own drinks,it didnt matter if you complained to the manager as he didnt listern. We spent alot of money eatting out and there wasnt any free ice-creams or snacks, between 4/5 they put trays of sandwiches on the bar with left over ham and chesse from breakfast.

We have just got back from staying in this hotel, We were a party of 10 with 5 adults and 5 children staying in 3 rooms and the welcome was not the best, the lift was out of order even though we asked for rooms together we were put on the 1st, 2nd and 7th floor, we had no help getting our cases up the stairs. When we got to our rooms there were 4 beds in a row to sleep 2 adults and 2 children, on the up side we was told the next day we could move to a bigger family room, which we did and we managed to move the 7th floor room to the 1st.
The food at the hotel or lack of it, is the main problem with the hotel, the selection is sparse at best with very little for children to eat or if you dont like fish. The pasta and rice dishes were either over or under cooked and left over food from the day before appeared the next day reheated.
The hotel could be soo much better with:-
-More staff, the staff are clearly stressed and have a cant be bothered attitude most of the time
-More sunloungers (there are only 15 for the whole hotel)
-Better evening entertainment there ideal of this is 2 nights of the week a spainish bloke turns up with a keyboard and sings spainish songs.
All in all you get what you pay for is taken to another level with this hotel. It really is cheap and cheerful. The hotel is kept very clean inside, altough the plants and play area need some tlc.

  • Advice: Get up early to secure a lounger and dont expect gourment food

I have just arrived home from my Monteverde experiance!. We stayed for 1week all/inc. I expected the hotel to be basic,as it is only a 2*, but towels&pillows on arrival would have been nice,as we arrived at 1.30am.The food was something else,my 2 daughters aged 7&2,hardly ate a thing, and what they did eat made them ill. I did read 1 review that said "hotel not possible", i think this is their favorite saying. Apart from this there is no mini club,no air con,no tv in rooms, and ice creams are not included, all of these are advertised in hotel itinary. Seriously think about what you are letting yourself in for before you book.

Well having read some of the recent reviews, I can't believe we stayed in the same Hotel. Yes it is a 2 star, but we have stayed in worse 3 stars in other countries.
The hotel staff were friendly, rooms cleans and cleaned daily and daily fresh linen. As for our 1st time on F/B in was good and there was plenty of choice. It seem some folk want 5 star for 2 star prices. I would go again to the Monteverde without question.
The resort, yes it is on the quiet side, but if you want a relaxing holiday Porto Cristo will do, the bars and resturants we friendly.
The english speaking bars El Puerto - best mixed tapas and bar Alibi, the only bars to sell STRONGBOW gave good sound advice. So for relaxing holiday PORTO CRISTO, for the hustle and bustle Alcudia or Magaluff. Thank you Beach Sun Holidays and Hotel Monteverde for a good relaxing holiday just 10 days ago.

This was the worse place I have stayed & I have stayed in a lot of places, I could not believe how in the dark ages this hotel was & even the resort everything closed at 8pm every night & all shops & restaurants closed on a Sunday too.
I went on a half board basis with my sister & my 2 kids age 5 & 18 months but this place does not cater for kids you can't buy calpol, nappies, baby food or milk in this resort, as a result my son ended up in hospital with a gastro bug & dehydration which was terrifying, plus we couldn't get a hold of a rep to help us get to hos we had to get a stranger off the street to translate in spanish to the receptionist we needed a hospital.
As far as I am concerned you go here at your own risk, you can't eat the food on offer as it is soo bad, & unless you are german they don't want to know, I have never been to a place so bad & outdated, I only discoverd this hotel was on holidays from hell a few years back after I had been, It should be demolished.

I wouldn’t say the hotel was the problem it’s the people - Germans everywhere. The hotel is not bad and the breakfast is quite ok. The evening meal is ok too if you like that sort of food.
The resort at night is absolutely dead so if your thinking of going out to drink and party - forget it .
In the day, there are a good selection of shops and the beach, although not huge is nice.
If you really want to get away from everything go to this place.
