Me and the missus went there in march-april 2010. There is always plenty of choice with food. There is a restuarant on site called fishermans cave, but they welcome passing trade and you have too pay for the food. pointless in our opinion as the food served free is just as... more

Where do I start? This holiday is now in our top ten of all time and we have about four a year. The flight over was very relaxing (we were Premier Class, which was well worth the money) and arrived on time. The journey to the hotel was about 35mins. We were met by Masai... more

Lovely hotel to relax after a week safari
We stayed here for a week after a week safari in Tanzania with First Choice in Jan/Feb 2006. Last year we stayed in a hotel on the south Coast, but all I can say is the North Coast is a better area to stay, you are safe to walk along the beach and through the little villages without feeling uneasy, and quicker to get to from the airport. All the rooms overlook the pool or beach, very clean & comfortable rooms, although the air conditioning could have been a bit cooler with the weather being 95 degrees heat outside! The food is very western and what you would heat at home - chicken/pork/beef etc. but we used to book for the Karubi Grill most nights as you get table service and you had a choice of food off the menu (recommend the beef with pepper sauce!) which was all inclusive aswell (apart from a few dishes you could pay extra for). The animation staff were great, very friendly and couldn't do enough for you - they always used to stop and have a chat with you every day, and lots of activities to do during the day. Waiter service around the pool, so you didn't even have to get off your sunbed to get a drink! The all inclusive drinks were their local brands only, but vodka & passion fruit was lovely, and tusker beer on tap! A great 3 star hotel which is a lovely place to relax for a week or two. also, Haller park is a great place, especially if you have children and not doing a safari, as you can go and feed the Giraffes and see local wildlife, especially the 150 year old giant tortises, which one lives with Owen the baby hippo who was washed up from the Tsunami. We would defintely stay here again! A word of advice though for Mombasa/Moi airport - you get charged for being over your weight limit coming home, which they try to charge you £8 or £11 per kilo, so watch the weight of any wood carvings you may want to bring home, especially 4ft giraffes!
basic
Well. The double gated security at entrance to hotel was daunting, then security people walking in and around hotel 24 hours a day,. I am not sure if i felt safer, or expected loads of trouble. The reception area was lovely, 5*. Then it went down hill. The room was basic, the sheets were grey, the matress overhung the side of the bed by 4 inches and the bottom by 2 inches, meaning the person on that side was always rolling into the middle of the bed. We had an army of ants useing our room as a parade ground, they did come straight up and spray the room when we told them. But had to get out as the smell was choking. For an all inclusive, i thought it was rather poor. The bar was very restricted in its drinks, you have to pay for ice-cream, the food was so repetative. Pork, beef, fish(usually red snapper). Everything is cooked in spice or herbs, or added after cooking, even mashed potatoes had to have something in them. Saute potatoes had chilli or something else on them all the time. They never seemed to keep an eye on the food running low, so you have to tell them to fill it up. We went for lunch 20 minutes before the restaraunt closed and there was only basically slops left, after everyone had had there turn at scooping and churning at the food. So we decided to have a salad, suprise. nothing there. asked one of the staff if they was going to refill it, got some sort of grunt as an answer, and they walked off. My wife lost her rag, and told them we were paing all inclusive and getting very little for it, (she was right. as usual) You have to get into the restaraunt at 7-30, when they open to get a decent chance of grabbing the roast chicken on the salad bar. Because when its gone its gone. The staff were friendly and polite. But dont get to friendly, because they do tend to tell you about there wife and 4 children that they are struggling to bring up on the measly amount that they get paid, etc, etc. The disco..........No comment The nightly entertainment.....Once you have seen one tribal dance, it gets boring seeing it every night. The best meals we had were in the Fishermans cave. A fish restaraunt attached to the hotel. At $100-00 for 2 people with wine, was really worth it. I know it was only a 3* all inclusive holiday, But believe me. I have had 3* all inclusive in Cancun,Mexico for less mony than i paid for kenya. And that was completly a different holiday, every thing was included.
Great stay
This was our 3rd visit to Kenya, the other two trips was to the South coast. I must say that compared to the South coast this beach was better, because of the "beach boys". In the south they don’t take NO for an answer, whereas the North "beach boys" were good. They left you alone once you convinced them you needed nothing. This allowed you to walk on the beach, unlike the South. The marine reserve is just off shore and was great for snorkelling, the beach boys were better value than the hotel for the trips. The food was good with plenty of variety, lots of vegetarian options. The grill was good for more intimate dinners, and the a-la-carte restaurant was ok for anything special. Entertainment was the usual, with the same in any of the hotels. A mix of traditional and folk dances and acrobatics. The hotel was generally compact, this gave rise to a very friendly air, mixing with lots of other guests. The staff, as most will testify were very friendly and would do anything to help. Getting there, I would recommend the premier class with First Choice. A great way to start your holiday. Coming back, BE VERY CAREFUL ON MONBASA AIRPORT, we went through 12 checks, where as the German flight were waved through. Also the check-in staff are on a fiddle with over weight bags. £8 a kilo or if you slip them half of that they will let you go. So be warned don’t be over weight coming back. We had a great time at this hotel although we did move room from the front to the rear because of the music from the next door restaurant. Generally I would return but for nearly double the cost Whitsands hotel two hundred meters alone the beach may be our next hotel. Hope this has been of use to you in your choice of hotels.
excellent hotel-great food!
My husband and i stayed at the Bamburi beach hotel in March 2005. We found it to be excellent value for money with a great choice of good food. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were always clean and comfortable. The only negative comment we would make is the hasstle you get from the beach traders (most hotels on the beach are the same from what we heard), although the pool is so nice you don't need a beach! We would definatly return to this hotel, and would recommend the over-night safari trip.
I'm in love!!!
My boyfriend and I have just got back from a weeks holiday in Kenya staying at the Bamburi Beach Hotel. I can honestly say that you will not be disappointed. The hotel was amazing, I don’t know where to begin: The hotel is spotless, the rooms are a good size and 90% of them have sea views, the food is wonderful and they have a wide variety so you will never get bored we even had Christmas pudding and brandy sauce!! There is a wide selection of drinks but if you want the top shelf stuff then you will have to pay, but they have their own makes of most things like vodka, gin, rum etc. You will also have to pay for the cocktails but we didn’t bother as we were quite content having vodka and passion fruit or beer (yum yum. The animation team are great and have varied activities going on throughout the day. The beach was lovely but it was over run with sellers which did get a bit annoying on the first day but once you have said 'no thanks' then they will leave you alone, it does look a bit daunting at first but they are nice enough and at the end of the day only looking to make a quick shilling here or there. And last but not least the people, what can I say……… they are the most friendliest, polite, warming people I have ever met, they will bend over backwards to do anything for you and they don’t expect anything in return. There are loads of trips to do but the most obvious would be a safari. It was the most wonderful experience of my life you see every animal you can think of and closer than I could every imagine. We were expecting to see black shadows of elephants about 20miles away but it wasn’t like that at all, we got 10 feet away from lions and in touching distance with elephants it was out of this world. We booked our safari over the internet before we went but there are a wide range of operators to book when you get over there so that’s no problem. Do take mosquito repellent although we did not see one single fly let alone anything else they do come out from about March or especially when its raining so better to be on the safe side. I would definitely go back to the Bamburi Beach in a flash no questions asked. It is well worth a visit and caters for all ages. if you want any more information please contact me
Basic but friendly
Hotel and rooms basic but comfortable. Food good and staff friendly.
Bamburi beach brilliant place...
Just got back from a 2 week stay. Staff, food rooms and service all second to none. For a full review go to the mombasa forum under the link entitled 'Just got back from bamburi beach hotel' posted 1 dec.
Great Value
I stayed in this hotel for two weeks June/July 2005 while diving with a nearby Dive Centre. The food was 1st class and the service i received was better than some 5 star hotels that i have stayed in. I will be returning in the future and would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Kenya.
Brilliant
We stayed here for 2 weeks from Boxing Day 2004. The food & accomodation was excellent. The entertainment was ok & the Crab racing surprisingly lasted only 1 race! We loved it so much we've booked to go the same time this xmas & to be honest, we can't wait! The care & attention the staff took for the new year's eve dinner was incredible - we truly felt like royalty! As for the hassle, just say you were here last year & know how it works - once the hard, desperate (some genuine!) sell's gone they're a really good laugh! Got to agree with comments about bar staff - very miserable! We would highly recommend this to anyone!
So frustrating!
Well first off they do not know how to answer their telephones. I had an important call from the states that HAD to get through and for 3 days they constantly tried to get through but got repeated busy signals, few times they did get through the operator hung right up on them! Luckily I knew the call was coming and picked up a satellite phone which ended up costing me $5 U.S. a minute!! This is atrotious and totaly unacceptable behavior for a hotel. My phone bill ended up costing over $600.00 U.S. because I had to end up using my room phone at 5 shillings a minute because of phone calls not being able to come in!
