Thalassa Sea Side Resort & Suites

A great 2 weeks in Santorini. Kamari is a perfect destination for couples with most of the bars, shops, and tavernas on the sea front. Santorini is slightly more upmarket than many of the other Greek islands we have visited.
The hotel Thalassa ticks most of the boxes but does have one or two negatives. The hotel pool looking out to the sea is fantastic; however there are only 9 sunbeds.
Thomson’s website states sea views, this is not the case, and many of the rooms are at the rear and look out onto a courtyard. The rooms are very small and basic, but there is a fridge and good aircon.
The staff were always pleasant and helpful. Thalassa is at the end of the Kamari beach which means it is very private, but the downside is having to walk along the rocky beach to go into Kamari, which resulted in our wives only wearing flip flops and failing to make use of the suitcase full of high heels, but you can go slightly inland as an alternative route.
Sadly the hotel beach bar closes at 10.30.The other thing the brochure/website fails to mention is that the hotel sits at the end of the runway. We actually saw this as a plus.
There were only about half a dozen flights per day but it was amazing as they came in only a few hundred feet above us.
Fira is a great place to visit, as is Oia for the sunset. The quality of the food we had was better than usual for Greece, in particular we visited Syrtaki in Kamari on 5 or more occasions where the staff were amusing, and the steaks were excellent. Sadly, we had a 5 hour flight delay on the return leg.
We loved Kamari and Santorini, and despite our reservations, enjoyed our stay at the Thalassa hotel and would consider returning.
