" We booked this within a month of the... "

We booked this within a month of the travelling date after taking a chance on a great Teletext deal. There was very little feedback on the web about this place so felt compelled to write a review about how fantastic it is.

The hotel staff are EXCELLENT. We arrived on New Year's Eve and having booked so close to departure, had been allocated one of the street facing rooms, the only parts of the hotel which have not been extensively and luxuriously refurbished. Though on speaking to reception staff they were only too happy to move us to one of the south facing rooms as soon as the new year guests had moved out.

The south facing rooms are very well appointed, newly refurbished and with fabulous views over the mountains. We stayed half board, which included a very impressive 7 course new year's eve gala dinner, and 4 course meal every other night. Breakfast is a mixed hot and cold buffet.

One of the biggest plus points to the place has to be the newly refurbished Wellness Centre, which would not be out of place in any of the world's top hotels; ultra modern audio visual effects, clean and good facilities.

The hotel is in a great location. Ski bus stops right outside, 5 mins walk to the First/Shreckfield Gondola, and 10mins (or short bus) to the unique Kleine Scheidegg rack railway.

Skiing is good for all abilities, my wife had only skied once before so we stuck to the warmer (south facing) First area which has excellent blues and easy red runs for beginners, and some good black / off piste skiing back down to the village for more advanced skiers. Kleine Scheidegg and Manlichen has many more runs though are more tricky for the less advanced skiers.

The village is not for those seeking massive nightlife potential; more suited to small busy bars, or hotel lounges with log fires, so not one for a lads' tour group! Families or couples wanting to chill out will enjoy most.

Although the Crystal / Thompson reps were not much use; you will benefit from booking via an agent for the price you will get, simply do a little research yourself before you travel or rely on the hotel staff if not.

" My father has been staying at the... "

My father has been staying at the hotel for last two days, and to contact him, I had very rude reception from the night staff on both night.

Not only was I cut off on both occasions and had to ring back (international calls), they were incapable of finding out what room he was staying in and told me I’d be better off ringing in the morning.

So ring in the morning I did, and found out what room he was in, but he wasn’t at the room.

Rang again this evening, and the staff attempted to connect the call twice and failed, not even a ring or a sound, but managed to cut me off again. When I rang back, I asked them to try again, and it wasn’t clear if my father was not answering the calls or if there was a technical problem from what he said, and as I was trying to establish which of the two it was, I was told ‘it’s your problem, not mine’. When I asked for his name, so I can speak to the manager tomorrow about him, he put the phone down on me again.

I know I haven’t stayed at this hotel, but to be honest, I don’t think I would EVER want to stay somewhere like this that have staff who will speak so rudely to you and slam the phone down on you. What if it was an emergency? I thought putting calls through was a simple task that every hotel does day in day out.
