Being a 4* Wellness Hotel, the Waldegg has a beautiful though small wellness area with Spa and Sole-Bath pool. The view from the wellness area on the mountains is remarkable.
In their pamphlets you will never see images of the hotel rooms and there is a reason why. The rooms are totally overpriced and substandard for a 4* hotel. Wellness surely stops after stepping in the room. The 1970 old worn off furniture is in worse shape than what you get in second hand furniture stores or you’d see in student hostels. In my room the bathroom tiles were broken and a stench of cold smoke was in the air. In comparison with other Swiss hotel rooms, the room was quite spacey though and had a balcony! If you have forgotten your toothbrush, you can buy a set at the reception of 15 Swiss Francs (12 USD), that’s quite a rip-off, for a toothbrush and some paste!
Another spoiler were the masses of Indian package tourists lodged in the hotel, who were standing in the hallways and often inappropriately staring at the few Wellness guests rushing to the wellness area. I can imagine that the view of ladies in bathrobes is unusual for middle class men from India, but this did not increase my well-being in the Waldegg. Still, the smell of Indian spices in the hallways gave the whole hotel some exotic flair.
