Le Prieure Chamonix Hotel

During ski season, this hotel seems to cater to US and British ski clubs/groups, and in full disclosure, I was with one -- only people who were French at the hotel were the staff. The front desk was rude to nearly everyone in my group and often didn't provide correct information. Dinner every night was some sort of tough meat in a brown sauce. We took advantage of the dine-around plan and had much better food at two affiliated hotels, the Alpina and the Mont Blanc -- only a small credit at this one but worth spending the extra money.<br... more

This hotel was a nice surprise, and we were lucky to get it for 1/3 the average price on trip advisor. I think we managed it by travelling off-season (October), and going as part of a group. The hotel is very nice and is designed such that every room has a view of Mont Blanc. I can't argue with that, really. Furthermore, the hotel was fully booked when we arrived, so they gave us a 5-person suite for the same price as a double. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of September. I gave rate 4, but I would say, 4 & half. The only reason I could not give 5 is because the shower curtain in bathroom was smelly and the Sauna was closing at 20h30. There is only a few hotels in Chamonix, whose rooms are all facing Mt. Blanc and with balcony. This hotel is one of them! We give this hotel the highest recommendation having just returned from a one week stay. The room was fine, clean and spacious with a fantastic mountain view from our balcony. The staff were all helpful and courteous but our highest praise goes to the restaurant and its very friendly and efficient staff. We had an all -inclusive deal but had intended to dine out as well. I stayed in the Prieure recently, during the summer. I found the prices reasonable and the hotel good value for money. It is not a 5 star; nor would we want it to be. It is clean, well equipped, and every room has a nice balcony. I would stay there again.

We stayed at Le Prieure one night in July 2006 during our 6-day vacation in Lake Geneva region. The room was huge, we were given an apartment with 2 rooms and 5 beds (we are a couple with no kids). The rooms had a big, common balcony with a direct view to Mont Blanc and Aguille du Midi. The check-in was perfect. We arrived at noon and got our room immediately even though the check in would have been at 3 p.m. normally. We stayed here for 3 nights on part of our honeymoon in Jan, and we found the hotel to be good. Our room was great - the view from our room was awsome! It was quite large, clean and had a nice balcony. We bboked the room online and got a great price. Some of the staff were a little snooty at times, and were very keen to sell us lift tickets for the following days (although not sure if the lady actually worked at the hotel or just gave comission to the hotel???) which I don't reccomend if it is bad weather you will only pay 1/2... more

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon. Let me say from the start that the view of Mont Blanc is so incredible that the size or standard of the room becomes, to a certain extent, irrelevant. Each room in the hotel has a view of the mountain. We did not eat at the hotel as there are so many options in the village. A good hotel with plenty of Alpine character and friendly staff. The breakfast was buffet style and boiled eggs were especially good, although Gethin ate them raw. Unfortunately a large group of Brits spoilt our stay somewhat and made the nights a bit noisy. I felt like gauging their eyes out when I woke up. My partner and I stayed over the new year period at the Prieure. It was very overpriced for the stanard of accommodation but the time of year has to be taken into account (everywhere highly priced at this time of year) which we accepted. We are both young though seasoned travellers who have stayed in a mixture of luxury and average hotels; as well as one of us being an hotelier, this is a very honest review!
