Quarteira Sol Hotel

Have just returned from this hotel, decor lovely room nice spotlless and cleaned every day. However arrived at 10.00am in morning, not allowed to book in till 2.00pm, single traveller on my own who had never been to portugal before, no flxibility on this.had to just wonder round for 4 hrs. Also sister and husband joined me later they where flying back too Ireland at 9.00pm at night, had to be out of room at 12.00. theu requested and extention on room and offered to pay told no room at the inn, find that hard to believe as it certainly was not full also management did not even provide a room where guests travelling late could perhaps go to beach and have a quick shower. The young staff particularly at reception where lovely, but [--]manager left a lot to be desired in his attitude. Would not stay again as no atmosphere in hotel although lovely and clean. It is not ideal for young families as nothing to do for children other than pool.It would suit the more advanced in years.

We stayed at the hotel from the 7th - 14th July 2008 and we had a lovely stay at the hotel and although at the time of our stay building work was going on we were undisturbed and didn't feel like it iinfringed on our stay at all! The room we had was very clean, pleasant and was cleaned everyday. We were provided with fresh towels everyday too! our room was a twin room and was large enough to fit a travel cot in for our little boy! we also had the largest balcony over the front of the hotel which came in usefull with our little boy he could go out and play safely there.The rest of the hotel was very well kept too. We found all the staff to be very friendly, polite, helpfull and great with children! We stayed B&B at the hotel and did find it abit limiting especially for our little boy who was 20months old when we travelled, there wasnt much choice for him and on a couple of days we ate out for breakfast, but the Breakfast room was lovely and what we did eat there was very nice! The pool area was kept very clean and tidy the pool was refreshing and there was a large inflated childrens pool which we thought was perfect for little ones as the main pool was far too deep & cold for children! The hotel was in a great location especially for the bus station were you can travel into Faro & Alubufeira and the bus service was great too! The supermarket across the road from the hotel was closed but there are two more just a short walk down the street to the left of the hotel entrance! We found Bar D'Artagnan at the side of the hotel & Bar Fantasia on the front to be very friendly and welcoming to children and nice if you want a quick snack. Infact all the resteraunts and bars we did eat at were very welcoming to children! There are some lovely resteraunts too Alphonso's wich is at the side of the hotel and Rosa Branca which is situated at the end of the prom were very pleasant and great value for money. The beach and the front are very clean and wasnt over-crowded and we found that we could walk from Quarteira into Vilamoura in about 20mins along the front and past the fish market. We went to Quarteira Sol with the veiw of it's just somewhere to sleep and shower and we had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone especially as the perfect base and travel on the bus or day trips from there as it is cheaper than alubufeira and vilamoura!

The hotel that we first chose was overbooked, so we had to stay here for 3 nights. We didn't know anything about this hotel before arrival, because we were automatically booked through a booking system, so we had a "surprise" waiting. At first it was really hard to find the place. Yes, we did have a navigation system! Even though it's located on the main street, still not easily noticeable. The reception staff was quite friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff in other hand was terrible, because they didn't care to fill the empty plates with slices of cheese and sausages as if it was their own. The so called juice didn't even remind one, it was like colored water. Coffee...well one can't expect much from a Nescaf'é's machine anyways. So don't expect much from the breakfast, it fills your stomach with some bread and if lucky, cheese, but it's not much of a thrill. Be aware that next to the hotel there is construction work in process (Mar 2008) and the workers are on site even on Saturday morning! In our room was at first glance only one small window with an overview of construction workers, but later on we discovered that behind a painting there's another window! Perhaps they were out of curtains or we just didn't quite understand the "art"? The decoration was from 70s and probably never changed after the hotel was opened, so really old and ugly, carpets were stained. The bathroom was OK, although the flush tank was running from time to time. There is also "parking aid" possible on site. That means in front of the hotel are waiting for you really helpful guys who will "help" you to park your car by waving their hands and then waiting for money. I'll advise you to park somewhere where they're not standing, otherwise if you are not paying, they might scratch your car for "gratitude". Overall it wasn't the worst hotel in the world, the value (about 30€ /DBL/per night) was good, so we didn't expect luxury. Quarteira itself is really tired and worn out, nothing really to do here (at least in March), so I'd recommend you to stay in another village. In summer of course, the nice sandy beach is just 2 minutes walking. For example Olhão was smaller but very lively.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay. The hotel was all but empty, it was clean but very basic. I have stayed in much worse hotels and for what I paid, I think it was good value. The staff were always plesant although they all spoke very little English. I don't think I would stay there for more than a few nights, but for a budget break it was fine.

Arrived back from here on Saturday and have to say we have definitely stayed in worse hotels. The room was more than adequate, some other guests were moaning that their room was quite small, I think we struck lucky. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly, especially the reception staff who were more than happy to help. The hotel is handily placed for the bus station (it is just across the road), and the buses are cheap. Quarteira itself is a nice resort, with a lovely beach. There are quite a few shops and lots of bars! We stayed on a half board basis and the meals were adequate. There wasn't a great deal of choice and at breakfast they often ran out of food and we had to wait for more. Dinner was better as not so many people. We went to Villamora where there is a lovely harbour, and you can walk there, its only about half an hour away on foot. We also went to Albafeira and Faro on the bus. Overall we enjoyed our week here having never been to Portugal before, however if we go again we will stay somewhere else as we have now been to Quarteira.

Have just returned from Portugal after a five night stay at the hotel. Whilst the room we were allocated was rather small it was comfortable and clean. This is not the best hotel I have stayed at nor is the worst by some distance. As other reviews state the decor is tired but the staff are friendfly and helpful providing you treat them as human beings and not slaves. Breakfast was adequate and comparable with higher grade hotels I have stayed at in Vilamoura. There were grumbles from other guests relating to their half board meals but as we were B&B I would happily recommend this hotel on that basis. We used the hotel as a base to explore by car and found it to be ideally located for that purpose. Car parking is on the feeder road in front of the hotel.

after having arrived after 3am flight we pulled up outside the hotel your glad your not staying in and was told this is it off you get. The hotel is on a main road in a run down area I can only describe as New York Bronx. We eventualy were given a room at 2pm, this resembled a shoe box with a bed in it. As I'm only 5ft 2 I had to stand on tip toes to see out of the window that did not open (a fire hazard I think you will agree). we refused this first luxury accomodation and were given a bigger room with a balcony above the shops and opposite the greasy spoon and fish restaurant, being bowled over by the size of the room we almost didn't notice the light switches hangng out of the walls, iron burn on the carpet, cracks in ceiling, electric wires tapped to the shower wall and broken door lock. After spending one night in this room and battling with holiday company we were moved to another room( I bet this room was perfect I hear you say, how wrong you are) This room appeared ok on first inspection until we went to bed and discovered the broken bed base, air con that didn't turn off blowing full blast like a gail all night, the sink that didn't hold water, the light switch hanging off the wall,and no accesable plug for use in the bedroom. The view from the balcony resembled a scene from Nasa. The food is exactly as descibed in the first review and 20 min wait for service at the only bar in hotel. No pool side facilities you will need to dress and venture into the Bronx to get refreshments. I would not give this hotel 1 star let alone 3. Avoid it like the plauge.

This "hotel" should be condemned! Our room was disgusting, dirty, and smelly. Still has original EARLY 1970's decor and furniture, needs a MAJOR renovation, or demolition.

Excellent location but eat out. Breakfast consisted of watery fruit juice, unbranded cornflakes, hot dog sauasages, scrambled egg mush and rock hard toast. Dinner was a choice of over cooked tasteless fish or dry chewy meat with cabbage, sprouts and hard boiled tatties every night. Room was small with a filthy stained carpet and a step in the floor, yes the floor had a step in it as did the toilet, it had two steps in it. If you like fish try the Casa da Vila, walk down to the prom and turn left, it's about 500 yds (10 mins stroll), 4 courses of different fish and more if you can eat it with tatties and salad. The outside looks like a small promenade cafe standing by itself but it hides a delight of fish and a very friendly owner. Give it a try you won't be disappointed at 8 euros For breakfast go to the Mona Lisa, 5 euros for the works, it's on a side street leading to the promenade. The beach has easy access for all and the surrounding area is flat, no cliffs like the rest of the Algarve

We stayed two nights at the Quarteirasol Hotel and would have liked to stay longer, we made a last minute booking and got a good price, the hotel was easy to find and the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful. Despite what the advertising tells you on some of the sites the Qaurteirasol is not on the beach, it is second line but that doesn't detract from its value for money. Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the slip road to another hotel but was quiet, clean and big with plenty of hot water and lots of towels. For those that want it there is BBC TV on the satellite system as well as three other stations in English. The reception area is really nice if a little minimalistic and the pool are carefully tended and cleaned constantly. The hotel is totally to one end of Quarteira (the Faro end) and a walk into Villamoura would take about half an hour, there were plenty of restaurants and bars all along the promenade but I could recommend 'Fernandos Hideaway' which is one road back and well signposted. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, good food poorly cooked (rubber scrambled eggs, scruffy brown bacon and transparent orange juice!) and had very limited choice, despite this all in all it was a better than average hotel.
