Sunscape Puerto Aventuras Hotel

Just got back from a 6 day trip (myself, my husband and 4 & 14 year old son and daughter)-- this resort needs better management and needs to get organized to sum it all up. The staff is very friendly and eager to please except the front desk which was not efficient and not pleasant. The food is not 5 star but is good. They advertise 6 restaurants but maybe two are open each night plus the buffet. The Japanese was great but was only open once the whole time we were there. We booked this trip through Apple Vacations at the last minute, 3 days before we left. We've been to the Riviera Maya on numerous occasions, and have stayed at the Secrets resorts and we were hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately there were immediate problems at the front desk. We arrived at noon and we were told that our room would be ready in about 90 minutes. My husband and I and our 3 children (ages 11, 9 & 7) stayed at Dreams 12/17-12/24. I agree with a lot of the previous reviews. It was a nice place, but I don’t think they were quite ready to open and have 90% occupancy. When we arrived, they were at 17% and the first few days of our trip were quiet and relaxing. Once the weekend rolled around and the resort filled up, it got a bit crazy. The grounds of this resort are very small. We stayed in that hotel a week, me, my husband and our 3 year old son. First when we arrived at 2.30pm our room wasn't ready. We went to have some lunch and after 90 minutes it still wasn't ready. Finally we got our room just before 5 pm. There was weird odor in our room and floor was dirty, sand and something but we were too tired to get housekeeping there again, just wanted to take hot shower and get changed after trip. We just got back from a week long vacation at Dreams PA and it was amazing. A few issues at first but they JUST opened this past month and you need to expect a few issues-these issues were not bad at all and did not stop us from having a great time. Rooms were nice sized adn the bathrooms were HUGE! Double sink and a large shower. Food-overall was good-some places were excellent and some were just ok. Just returned last night after 5 nights. Dec 21-Dec26 Arrival: check in is supposed to be at 3pm. We arrived at 3:15 and our room was not ready. There was no hospitality suite available. We were told to go eat and come back. So we did and at 4:15, our room was still not ready. We had our 2 year old with us and he (and we) were getting aggitated. We just returned and wished we stayed somewhere else. Rooms not ready or adjoining as promised, TV not hooked up, internet service ( included in preferred status) not avail for two days, no scones at tea time or very hot water to make tea , no hot appetizers at cocktail hour - all of which is listed for preferred guests that pay $147.00pp extra. This resort was a middle of the road resort. Very clean, the people are very kind and helpful. This was more than worth the money we spent. Our kids had a great time and felt important because the workers even took care of their needs. The people make you feel as though your stay really matters to them. We loved the shopping a few minutes outside the resort. Make sure you have your best negotiation strategies in place if you want to save money. My husband and I recently returned from our trip to Dream Puerto Aventuras (December 2008). Overall we had a very wonderful and relaxing time. It was our second trip to a Dreams hotel. We stayed at Dreams Puerto Vallarta last year for our honeymoon. Keep in mind this hotel just opened December 2008 and was only at 20% capacity when we arrived. My family just got back from spending 8 wonderful days at the new Dreams Puerta Adventuras in the Mayan Riveria. The resort had been closed down as they renovated the entire property and opened the day before we arrived. Our lodging was upgraded to a beautiful oceanfront room on the preferrered level and we absolutely loved the star treatment we received.
