just got back from 10 days at hotel, its not a bad hotel but the situation with the sun loungers is a joke, queing from 7.30am then they open the doors at 8.30am and its a cavalery charge.our party of 6 had no chance of getting 6 loungers so we had to go to the beach everyday which was a nuisance.no complaints about the food but wouldnt book at this hotel again

My fiance and I arrived at the Ambassador Playa around 1am on the 15th July 08. As the coach pulled up at the hotel I felt sick. I knew Benidorm was meant to be tacky but this was something else, drunk teenagers hanging out of the surrounding bars fighting, vomitting and shouting. Despite this though I decided to start this holiday off with a positive attitude as we had scrimped and saved for months to be able to afford our week long break.
The hotel itself was lovely on first impression. The "unfriendly" guy behind reception that so many people have talked about on here was actually really polite and we were given the key to our room immediately. We also hired a safe for a deposit of 15 euros (you get 6 back at the end). We took one of the 3 lifts up our room on the third floor with our suitcases but I was disapointed with the room itself. No kettle, hairdryer or fridge! I have never been on holiday and not had tea/coffee making facilities! Also I found that the bottled water didn't stay cool for very long, a fridge would have made sure we always had cold water to sip. We had two twin beds with very thin sheets (although it was generally too hot in the night), a dressing table, TV with two British channels (UKTV Gold and Sky News) and a bathroom. The shower/bath was grubby and rusty but OK for a quick freshen up before going out in the evenings. Our bathroom had a stench of urine, I don't know if this was because it had not been cleaned throughly enough or if it was the drains.
Our first day we woke up too late for the hotel breakfast, which is served between 8-10ish. We ate at the restaurant (if you can call it that-all the places to eat in Benidorm are cheap, tacky and most resemble a greasy spoon) over the road and had a cooked breakfast.
We had planned to spend most days by the pool but it was impossible to get a sunbed unless you are up 5am or you wait until the sun goes in about 6pm. The pools were great though, cold but what do you expect? Waiter service was available all day to bring you snacks and drinks. The waiters were charming and always looked genuinely grateful for the tips they got. They did work bloody hard in the heat!
We tried the restaurant for tea that night and found a few things we liked-pasta, chicken nuggets, chips, fried fish etc. This got a bit boring after a few days but it was typical of this sort of hotel. Drinks had to be bought at dinner, a bit annoying as there was quite often a long que. We found it quite amusing how the staff tried to clean up your table before you had even finished!! It was exactly like a school canteen.
My fiance and I did go out in the nights around Benidorm but found the nightlife not suitable for a couple, more for boys/girls holidays where the aim is to get as drunk as you can and try and pull. We ended up back in the hotel entertanment in the end, which was excellent I must say. The drinks were reasonably priced and a wide selection, although we would have liked to have seen more British beers.
Whilst staying at the hotel I become quite ill with sickness and diarear (I know I'm rubbish at spelling sorry!). I don't think this was down to the food as it all looked hygenic and above board. It might have been from the swimming pools and we never once saw they being cleaned or just generally the heat as it was BOILING!
In conclusion, if you like Benidorm I would recommend this hotel as it is near to everything and clean. I won't be going back, I thought Benidorm was a joke. I may be a snob but at least I'm classy and cringed at the overweight "chavs" covered in tattoos shouting and smoking by the poolside all day!

Holiday was amazing ! loved it .went for 2 weeks would defo go back again, bar staff were brilliant so were the reception staff, rooms were spotless cleaned daily, plenty of entertainment to watch. The only bad thing was that in the morning you would have to rush for sunbeds and you couldnt leave your sunbed for ages as the towels would be taken off the beds and put onthe stage. it rained once when we were there - plenty of bars and resturants . lots of entertainment in the bars but very dear when acts are on . Went to see alot of acts, we seen ; rose peters ; ricki stevens (went to see him twice ; hes the king of comedy ) we also seen elvis ; shuwaddywaddy; madness ;chrissy rock(shes the queen of comedyin benidorm ; westlife ; carnaby street ; poools were amazing . another bad thing was we didnt have a balcony the air con was a wee bit warm the second week but eventually got it working again. first day we got there card for the room door was broke and wasent opening thedoor and also shower was broke (there was no water coming out it ) but the card and shower got fixed. The Shower was very powerful and it didnt help if you had sunburn ! was very sore . overall i would defo go back to this hotel again. hotel was amazing , security were always watching and walking about . never seen any trouble in the hotel. food (in resturant was always good , always something to put on the plate . my dad who is a fussy eater always had something to put onthe plate and even my wee brother didnt eat the much but then the 2nd week he ate more . foods great ! resturant staff were friendly always having a laugh with the kids . would definetely go back to this hotel over and over again :D i loved it . it was amazing . shame we had to go home after 2 weeks :( reccomend this hotel to anybody . i went in the spa that was amazing stay in it for hours :-D spa sauna jaccuzi ice pool finnish steam room were amazing :D 10/10 :D x

returned to ambassador for the 2nd time in 8mths.had a great time.Rooms cleaned daily, hotel very clean at all times.Staff helpfull at all times.food was basic but plenty of choice, from salads to cooked dinners to chips.only downside were the pools which are a bit small to cope with both hotels and also the mad rush for sunbeds, with people reserving them without using them for 5/6 hours at a time.these selfish people(all brits not a german in sight)know who they are and should be ashamed.

We'd read various comments, both positive and negative about this hotel so went with an open mind. We had a fabulous holiday. The hotel was spotless, rooms cleaned every day. Staff very helpful and polite, (although the male reception staff perhaps left a bit to be desired). The food was excellent, loads of hot and cold choices, both morning and evening. The only critical comment I would make is that they don't really cater for vegetarians. They could do with one evening meal, marked up as being a vegetarian option. The salads are excellent, but a colleague travelling with us who is vegetarian commented that you can only eat so much salad in the week. She bought a tub of cottage cheese and the staff very kindly offered to save it for her in their fridge. For non-vegetarians, the choice is super. There was plenty of choice at breakfast so that didn't cause a problem. All the food was fresh, and was changed at frequent intervals. The rooms were on the 3rd floor (3111 and 3108). They were very quiet and extremely comfortable. When we first arrived, we had a problem with a light switch. We reported it and it was sorted immediately. The air conditioning was efficient (and much appreciated). We rented a fridge for 15 euros for the week, which also proved invaluable. The entertainment was good, but if you don't like what's on at the hotel, there's loads of bars and clubs literally across the road and they all have entertainment throughout the evening. All in all, we really enjoyed our holiday and wished we'd booked for 2 weeks instead of 1! Will definitely go again and would recommend
this hotel to any age group.

My family must of had the worst room in the hotel. The room was stifling hot even though there was so-called air conditioning, maybe this was due to the fact that it was situated behind the double layered curtain and didn't touch the room at all. If the windows were opened there were fans on making a dreadful noise as we were directly above the kitchen and this caused a lot of the heat problem as well. You might've been able to put shampoo on your hair in the shower but getting it off again was the problem due to the drips of water coming out of the shower. After complaining to the rude manager on the reception desk (who seemed to have little patience for his hotel residents) 4 times but apparently nothing had been written down about the first three complaints (how convenient). The food was not bad but would have expected to of had at least one day were paella was served instead of chicken legs and shepherds pie day in day out. There was only about 6 umbrellas for the pool area and with the hotel being as big as it was would of expected more although not having a 6 pack I wouldn't of been able to carry the concrete blocks anyway. The waiters were all friendly and nice. I wouldn't go back to this hotel.

Well first of all, all these negative comments are un-nessecary. The negativity towards the noise is a bit stupid seeing as you are in Benidorm which is famous for nightlife not running an eco-friendly green farm, and no you wont exactly wake up to the bahamas for 321£ a time so why did you buy the holiday in the first place dumbass!
I thought it was a great friendly hotel with helpful staff and welcoming guests.
The pool was clean and sheltered and there were plenty of sunbeds for the two apartments.
The service was always up to standards and the rooms were consistantly clean.
Only 250m away from the beach too!
Shops are near and you dont like the entertainment? Even if you dont then go out! Duh!
Hey I love andy babesz!

May 2008, I must say I was really pleased with the food and the cleanliness it was a 100 %. However the man on reception was very rude and sarcastic to quite a few customers. The pool is lovely and clean but teenagers screaming all day was wearing, it is very very noisy on a night. I was on the top floor (10) so I pityied the people on the ground floor, right next to a nightclub which is part of the Ambassador, take ear plugs or you come home exhausted. On the evening meal there is no drink offered at all, you have to buy it and it is EXPENSIVE and you are'nt allowed to bring your own in at any times, which is a major con. The bars are entertaining dont go to Gigolos for 2 cokes and a bottle of blue wkd it cost £12.00. I would,nt recommend the Ambassador for the noise alone it really is bad.

Just arrived back and we wholeheartedly enjoyed ourselves. Benidorm has something to offer all ages and the Ambassador was great. I have 10 year old and every night she was entertained, the food was lovely with a large selection to choose from . The hotel offers it all. The staff are lovely and friendly and the hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean. Fully recommended.

I have literally arrived back from Benidorm and have one thing to say I whole-heartedly disagree with the negative comments the Ambassador Playa has received.
Firstly, I saw Benidorm Unpacked on ITV and worried. However, on arrival I was greeted with a large foyer and an incredibly clean hotel. It's nothing like the programme. The hotel reception staff were fantastic. They were polite, courteous and always there to help, including the 'unhelpful guy on reception, whoever that was, as i found them all very helpful. (But I didn't shout at them in typically British fashion - so there's a tip).
The pub staff were great and put up with our bad spanish e.g. una copa de vino de blanco por favor!!. Infact when I spoke spanish to them, instead of shouting 3 largers, they were more than helpful.
As for the entertainment, I don't know because I don't go on holiday to live in a hotel. I am explorer and for 1 euro to go anywhere - I am off!!
As for the noise?! I stopped in 318 block 1 and had no problems at all. As for the fumes? There isn't much traffic. (Could be different in summer.)
Now then, the food. I found plenty of variety and it tasted delicious. I do not understand what people's problem were. What I did see was British people (i know this as I was stood next to them) piling their plate with everything they could. So it's little wonder there is no variety. Another thing that is probably a problem with the British, is that junk food was limited the week we stayed. In fact I have lost 7lbs with the healthy stuff they served. Not to mention the portion sizes were of normal size, rather than the gigantic sizes you get over here. Not to mention the big people who had criossants on their plates and then went to put sausages, fried eggs and bacon on too. Coronaries waiting to happen!!
So top tips:
1) Make sure you get a fridge, if you want one, and ask reception staff nicely. Don't shout they're not deaf;
2) If you want to eat junk, go B&B and then gauge yourself on fatty burgers available at many 'British Pubs & Cafes'. Otherwise, enjoy their fantastic food. Paella was particularly nice.
3) Book at the Ambassador be cause it is fantastic.
Benidorm itself is brilliant. I haven't come out to Spain to live in a hotel. I can do that for free at home. So if you ask at reception the day before you need one, you can order a packed lunch to take out with you for the day. Benidorm near the hotel is a bit like Blackpool. But if you are brave, venture upto Old Town. It's lovely Spainish streets, quiet pubs & Tapas will give you a treat. If you're not very brave, there are Brit owned cafes and pubs too. Callumby's Cafe off the beach front ( toward's Old Town - Yellow board on seafront you won't miss it) serves lovely tea and toast. O'Maras pub is good too. Penelopes for cocktails.
In short I have loved my stay at the Ambassador Hotel. I would strongly recommend it to any-one without children, as to be blunt, that's their only down fall. There's nothing much for children. It is a couple's hotel.
Thanks for a brilliant stay. x

I think this is a good Hotel if you are over 60 with no taste buds.
Entertainment was either ballroom or line dancing.
Food was rather bland and tasteless. The hotel is close to everything, the beach, the shops, even the night life. In fact so close I thought the party was on my balcony.
I can not complain for what I paid. (2 adults 1 child. 4 nights £89)
But if I had paid the going rate I would have been very cheesed off.
First time in Benidorm. Does everything it says on the tin. Blackpool with heat.
Would go back some time in the future

we have just returned from the ambassador playa, stayed in block 1 room 312, lots of trafic noise, loads of fumes, if you want a good well laid out comfortable room go for the top floor pool view, otherwise suffer the very poor air quality on the bottom floors.
food was 7/10 plenty of the same thing each night, entertainment included bingo, ball room dancing and an organist, some of the staff just do not like britts, espesialy a guy in the reception, but if you stick up for youreslf they soon change their tune, made the most of what we had available but would not stay again...

Hotel in convenient location - five mins from beach and 15 mins to Old Town on foot. VERY NOISY at night - live music until 1.00am from the Western Saloon bar kept us awake. My partner could hear the music even through ear plugs. No fun if you have to get up early for your flight home. Hotel very clean and the restaurant staff inn particular were very friendly - also very patient with the (mainly elderly at the time we visited) guests. Food ok but as a vegetarian it became very boring eating salad most days, even the pasta and rice salads had lumps of fish or meat in them so they were not an option either! Nice to see fresh vegetables being served sometimes too - unusual for Spain. No coffee/tea at lunch or dinner, glad we brought a travel kettle. We also took our own bottles of water to meals as it was much cheaper than buying it at the bar.
I enjoyed Benidorm and would definitely visit again - although i would not stay at this hotel again because of the noise. Benidorm is not all chavs and fun pubs (although it has quite enough of both!) The Old Town has some lovely tapas bars and is great for meeting the local people. La Cava Aragonesa was our favourite tapas bar. Rocas bar is a good tradtional Spanish bar as well.

This is an excellent hotel. The food was really good and the rooms were very clean.
The staff were very friendly - all except the Reception gentlemen who were very off-hand.
We would recommend using the Spa downstairs - Benecaldea - superb pool, steam room, Jacuzzi, sauna etc etc. I would return to this hotel just for that.
Unfortunately we chose to go during a Fiesta week - many drunken, rowdy Brits were there. Suggest you choose a time when it`s a little quieter.
Do go on one of the free Blanket trips - it`s worth sitting through the spiel just to see some of the scenery of the real Spain.
Altogether a very enjoyable holiday - thank you Sunshine.co.uk.

I stayed here with my family and we thought this hotel was in an excellent location.
Staff very friendly and hotel was nice and clean. We were 2 minutes walk from the centre and 10 minutes walk from the old town. The beach was no more than 5 minutes walk but we liked to stay around the pool with the kids, the staff were always on hand to help us.
We found the rooms to be a reasonable size and they were cleaned every day. We got a free child place with ulookubook, so over all great hotel/location and excellent price to go with it.
