Sol Parc Apartments
We booked via teletext thinking this was a Thomson holiday but later found out that it was only a Thomson flight with accommodation booked seperately.
We booked late not expecting 5 * food or accommodation. Although we did expect good basic clean facilities and reasonable food. The apartments were dirty and extremely shabby the cupboards smelt damp. There is a fairly serious problem with ants in the apartments. As we found out having left two croissants in a packet on the side for 3 hours when we returned we found ants swarming all over them. Once we realised this was a problem we made sure that any food was kept in the fridge and fortunately this kept the ants to a minimum. Although when talking to other guests I was horrified to find out that other english people had awoken in the night to find ants swarming over them in bed.
On arrival we were not given any kind of welcome pack to help introduce us to the area and how to get about or where might be worth a visit. If you were german there were all kinds of trips at all times of the day and night although none were available to the English. All the entertainment was also very poor and all in German. I think all in all this added to the fact that we felt invisible for a week.
We were on half board and there was a choice of four restaurants that you could use. We were disappointed in the food on site. There was no fresh juice at breakfast just a very sweet cordial type drink in a choice of 4 flavours. The coffee was also undrinkable black was extremely bitter and white was extremely sweet. We dined out at two of the reccommeded restaurants one was very poor and the other was very good but we did think that we had in fact ended up in the wrong restaurant by mistake. We believe we should have been in the Cafe Beach Club and we ended up in the Hotel Beach Club main restaurant.
Access to the beach was extremely good and the pool area was also very nice. The local bus service we found to be excellent and extremely punctual. The shop on site was ok with fresh baguettes and croissants every day. We found the staff to be overall very helpful apart from one particular receptionist.
We did find solice in the two bars just 5 mins walk away. The Irish bar and the English bar, although there is a limit to how much bingo you can listen too each night.
I do think that the owner of Sol Parc Apartments has a job on resolving the issues that the apartments present, they are old and in desperate need of modernising, if this where dealt with and if they could improve the quality of the food to that of which is served at Hotel Beach Club they would be moving in the right direction.
Son Parc as a resort does not offer much as it stands apart from a golf course and a beach. Next time even when booking late I would always do plenty more research. I think Menorca is a beautiful Island and I think we will definately visit again. Would I return to Sol Parc Apartments - I THINK NOT.
